Being a single mum.

A colleague when I started a new job, asked me what my husband was called. I said that I didn't have a husband, or a boyfriend for that matter.

She said 'Oh, a single mum.' and did the down-to-the-toes-and-back-up-again look of total disdain before walking off. Silly tart 😂

FlemCandango · 01/04/2024 16:20

Saying I don't like the band Queen, that was an actual "I'll get my coat then" moment.

Being vegetarian (in the late 80s / early 90s not recently, total non-event now).

Wearing make up, having hips, tits etc. and basically being a woman. According to various comments from men over the last 30+ years.

Probably lots of other things over my nearly 50 years on the planet but fortunately I am pretty deaf and generally oblivious 😂

Being a surrogate mother.

TigerRag · 01/04/2024 16:26

Being disabled
My taste in music
Being single
Being childfree (partly not by choice)

NCFTS · 01/04/2024 16:27

Having a mental breakdown

Having chronic physical illnesses

Being slim

Not being pretty

Being a SAHM

Not being able to drive (even though I don’t rely on anyone for lifts, or even ask)

Not being rich

Not being materialistic and not caring what the latest trends are and just liking what they like.

Being NC with my abusive family.

Disliking a lot of people because of the poor treatment I’ve had from people because of their judgements of all of the above.

biscuitnut · 01/04/2024 16:27

Having huge curly hair that takes hours to tame and when I do take the time to straighten it I get comments ‘you should wear it like that more often) 😩

Not particularly enjoying wine or indeed alcohol in general, unbelievable the amount women who look at me like I have just announced I eat babies for lunch

Not watching reality TV or the latest must see series is akin to being a weirdo in some circles.

TitaniasAss · 01/04/2024 16:29

At various times in my life:

Being thin
Being fat
Being a SAHM
Being a working mum
Having three children
My accent
Getting divorced
Just about every fucking thing. I don't give a shite anymore, you can't win.

greenhind · 01/04/2024 16:30

Claiming benefits for 25 years.

Quacking4it · 01/04/2024 16:36

Still living with husband despite being separated
Letting my son have long hair

MyFirstLittlePony · 01/04/2024 16:47

Having pancakes for dinner whenever we fancy it and not just on pancake day

Eating a large portion of chips at random times as a snack

Eating a lot

Having "two lunches" (soup AND a sandwich 🧐)

Lots of judgement about women eating 😅

VictoriaEra · 01/04/2024 16:50

Not wearing a ring - or jewellery of any kind.

isitbananatimealready · 01/04/2024 16:50

Not wearing make-up. I have to explain every time that I have perennial hay fever, so there is really no point.

Not going to church often enough, apparently. I had an answer ready for that one too.

VictoriaEra · 01/04/2024 16:52

Yulona · 01/04/2024 16:17

Oh yes, not driving, too, even though I'm perfectly self sufficient and don't beg lifts.

Me too. Hate driving and always take public transport.

TheaBrandt · 01/04/2024 16:54

Saying that when a child goes to university to some extent they need to man / woman up and get on with it. Ringing parents crying repeatedly about essay crisis or it issues doesn’t help them and upsets the parents. This makes me “hard” apparently

VictoriaEra · 01/04/2024 16:52

Me too. Hate driving and always take public transport.

Me too. Will take a lift if it's offered and quite happy to pay for petrol but otherwise I'll get myself home. I live in London so don't need a car anyway.

ButtockUp · 01/04/2024 17:01

(As a child and teen) Having foreign parents.
Retiring early.
Not liking going out anywhere in the evenings.

savethatkitty · 01/04/2024 17:02

I once worked away from home for 4 weeks, leaving my children in the very capable hands of their dad (my DH) AND grandparents. For context, DH goes away for work regularly for much longer periods, no-one bats an eyelid. My poor children have been traumatised for life because I wasn't there for 4 weeks, oh the horror. Being sarcastic. They don't even remember.

Ihearyousingingdownthewire · 01/04/2024 17:06

Christ, loads. I absolutely love it though. I love knowing that something about me gets someone’s back up and I live rent free in their head 😂

Choosing elective C-sections as I had no interest in feeling a single second of labour pain.

Exercising hard up to the day I had my C-sections.

Exercising hard after my C-sections.

Prioritising my mental health by making time for exercise and work despite having newborns.

Feeling strongly about not gaining weight during pregnancy.

Eating sushi during pregnancy.

Taking drugs when I was younger.

Having holidays without the children.

Competing in a dangerous sport.

Some years ago a journalist (female) decided to do a trip to India and leave her DC with the DH for that time. She documented her travels in the Telegraph and God alive, from the comments you'd have thought they were being babysat by the Child Snatcher instead of being (very adequately) cared for by their father (who was happy she was doing something that made her happy).

labamba007 · 01/04/2024 17:16

Having one child
Being fat
Working when DC was 6 months (I own my own business so hard to take a longer maternity leave)

Gettingonmygoat · 01/04/2024 17:27

Getting married in my teens, having a child a year later, all before my 20th birthday.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/04/2024 17:34

Still wet the bed from time to time, often when drunk but also due to stress or illness or anxiety sometimes too.
