It's Count Binface/Lord Buckethead for me. I don't think he could do a worse job than his predecessors.

So who do you want to be the next Mayor of London?

Sadiq Khan. I've got a soft spot for the lad.

N4ish · 30/03/2024 19:24

Khan again with no hesitation at all. I 100% support ULEZ and free school meals for primary kids has made a big difference for my family this year. I also love the thought of all the London haters and Islamophobes having a meltdown when he wins again.

valjane · 30/03/2024 19:26

Anyone but Khan. Rarely have I loathed anyone so much. But I think he'll win as Susan Hall is pathetic. There is no competition.

Pipeskeepleaking · 30/03/2024 19:27

Khan is amazing. He absolutely gets my vote, now that they’ve got rid of the first/second preference thing (I voted Green then Labour before).

Hall is horrendous!

valjane · 30/03/2024 19:27

And only on Mumsnet have I come across anyone who supports Khan.

valjane · 30/03/2024 19:28

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/03/2024 12:12

I hope Khan gets in again, there's going to be nothing like watching racists and racist apologists lose their mind if he gets in for a third term and they'll go around throwing around words like dictatorship and islamists 🙄

I can't stand khan but I couldn't give a shit what colour or religion he is.

Why do you loathe him?

DrJoanAllenby · 30/03/2024 19:34

Howard Cox.

TBF a lot of Londoners don't want Khan because of their lived experience of what's happened to London and Londoners under his policies.
A fair number of them aren't white and are Muslim. The dislike of him as mayor in many quarters has absolutely nothing to do with race, or religion and is coming from people who previously voted for him.

TBF, many Londoners love Khan and hope for a third term. I and everyone I know will vote for him.

3BellyProblem · 30/03/2024 19:46

Khan.

The rest of them couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery.

And that's your and their right. My response was to the idea that people who wanted him out, had racially inspired reasons rather than disillusionment.

suburburban · 30/03/2024 22:13

So will you all be happy to start paying by the mile to drive regardless whether your car is Ulez compliant

1dayatatime · 30/03/2024 22:26

@Elleherd

"And that's your and their right. My response was to the idea that people who wanted him out, had racially inspired reasons rather than disillusionment."

On your logic would are those people who want Sunak voted out at the next general election also doing this for racially inspired reasons rather than disillusionment.

Or does your logic only apply when the incumbent is a Labour politician?

Or perhaps most voters are more concerned with policies, past actions and the impact on their own lives rather than the skin colour of some remote politician?

ZaZathecat · 30/03/2024 22:42

Khan, and I've never been in a mosque in my life. I feel he actually cares about London and the environment, unlike the government who are wimping out on net zero

Not my logic at all! The quote got splinched.

This is what I originally responded to:

my response was: TBF a lot of Londoners don't want Khan because of their lived experience of what's happened to London and Londoners under his policies. Exasperatednow · 30/03/2024 22:48

I used to live in London but not now. On my most recent visit the most noticeable difference was the air quality. If I lived there I'd vote Khan.

DonnatellaLyman · 30/03/2024 22:58

Khan, I think he’s improved the lives of Londoners. This is no mean feat in the face of a hostile Tory national govt.

I’m not sure anyone I know is voting otherwise given the voting changes this time around.

suburburban · 30/03/2024 22:13

Most people I know in London don’t have a car at all.

Elleherd · 30/03/2024 23:02

@1dayatatime
I dislike the fact people can't not want a particular politician in a particular position, without people bringing race or religion into it as the poster I originally responded to did.
Many people are pro Khan's policies, and many who previously voted for him, want something different, especially small business owners and the disabled.

They are precisely 'voters more concerned with policies, past actions and the impact on their own lives' rather than the race or religion of some politician.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 30/03/2024 23:09

Why can’t all this wait for 20 years until electric cars are the norm?

Because thousands of people per year have been dying prematurely because of air pollution. Not to mention the increased cases of cancer, dementia, heart disease and lung disease.

There are 250,00” children with asthma in London, who need ULEZ for the sake of their health. I’m glad Khan has been progressive enough to push ULEZ through despite all the flak. Free school meals has been amazing too. And the alternative is looney Susan Hall, who tried to smear Khan this week with fake footage from NYC.

SkaterGrrrrl · 30/03/2024 23:16

Sadiq all the way!

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/03/2024 23:19

Oh, no. Fox hasn’t made it on the list. He seems like a competent bloke.

I've no idea where you got that idea from. He's so incompetent he couldn't fill in the forms properly. That's why he's not on the ballot.😂😂😂

Cavewomansue · 30/03/2024 23:20

Sadiq Khan - obviously.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 30/03/2024 23:28

Actual londoner.

I detest Khan, showboating idiot of the highest degree.

He talks the talk on climate, blah blah blah, whilst building a whacking great motorway through my local area which his own studies show is going to make congestion and air quality worse.

I had reason to deal with him in a healthcare setting when he was MP, and one of his family members were in hospital. He pulled the "I'm important card so give my relative special treatment" card which led to other patients, more in need of what was given to his relative, to miss out. I've never got over that.
