It's Count Binface/Lord Buckethead for me. I don't think he could do a worse job than his predecessors.

So who do you want to be the next Mayor of London?

I’m not against proper measures for combatting pollution. What’s difficult about ULEZ is that it hit some people massively, without any substantial benefit. I suppose the second hand car dealers must love it though.

Why can’t all this wait for 20 years until electric cars are the norm?

Because the air pollution-related ill health and deaths are happening now.

Should have been Lozza.

The city is lost to violent crime. Khan is woke and soft.

If Fox can't complete the forms properly, it doesn't suggest he'd be that competent at anything as complicated as running London.

By that logic you’d ban all combustion vehicles full stop.

It’s clearly a trade off. The problem is that ULEZ expansion hasn’t done very much for air quality yet has cost some people huge amounts of money. As a pp said, it’s regressive.

Khan, just so Hall does not get in

^^this. Susan Hall seems to have some very unpleasant views.

Confused Nope, there's a lot of distance between doing nothing and banning everything.

The research shows ULEZ is having a good impact on air quality.

Air pollution itself affects those in poverty the most due to living distribution and other factors. Those who pretend to care about those on low incomes don't seem to care much about their health.

Khan. I like clean air, thank you.
And anyone who blames him for crime in London needs to look at Tory central government funding cuts which have decimated children's services, mental health support, social housing and pretty much every other social and public service, which in turn has led to increased levels of crime. That's the root cause. So get the Tories out.

I agree with this.

The congestion charge in central London which is much better served by public transport made a difference to air quality.
ULEZ in outer London where low paid shift workers depend on older cars to work has not made any real difference to air quality in any of the boroughs I checked recently. It has caused problems for families already struggling to feed their families.

All the middle class liberals are patting themselves on the back for their righteousnous but around my area the local hospital and big employers have lost staff due to the cost of car replacements. Poor families who could not move job areas found themselves getting into debt and unable to pay other bills or desperately hunting around the country for an affordable car as SH prices were massively inflated by the scheme.

The whole solution in outer London stank of gesture politics for the Range Rover set who rarely slum it in the poorer areas of outer London.

If you think poor air quality directly kills people why wouldn’t you go further than ULEZ? In the same way the Clean Air Acts banned certain forms of fuel in areas altogether. I think the answer is that there isn’t much evidence of mortality from car pollution in London: it’s largely guesswork.

And the evidence is not strong for improved air quality either. At least one reputable study found negligible effects.

Those who claim to care about the health of the poor don’t seem to care very much that many who are poor can’t afford this policy.

Astartn · 30/03/2024 16:05

Khan but if not it has to go to Count Binface.

MugLove · 30/03/2024 16:10

Khan, no question. The Conservative candidate is appalling.

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 30/03/2024 16:11

Least Worst is Count Binface, but I don't think, much like the GE, voters have much of a choice. I don't want Khan or Hall to win.

Dewdilly · 30/03/2024 16:14

I live in London and I will vote for Khan. I approve of ULEZ.

There’s an interesting copyright dispute that led to Lord Buckethead becoming Count Binface.

Even in the world of joke election candidates it seems that financial and property rights are never far away!

suburburban · 30/03/2024 17:11

Heathrow airport is conveniently forgotten about

titbumwillypoo · 30/03/2024 17:40

Khan because ULEZ is a good start and you're not poor if you can afford to run a car.

PeanutAndBanana · 30/03/2024 17:43

Khan.
He's fine. Not great fine but a decent man with decent values trying to do the best job. Anyone voting for anyone else as a protest vote needs to be comfortable with the idea of letting Hall in by the back door. And I'm not, so he gets my vote.

WhatAreThey · 30/03/2024 17:43

Anyone but Khan.
I'm not white and was Muslim.

fluffycloudalert · 30/03/2024 17:45

Is Danny Dyer on the list? I'd vote for him.

Failing that - Shergar.

Saschka · 30/03/2024 17:45

Medschoolmum · 30/03/2024 15:25

Can't believe that people are mourning the absence of Mr Fox from the ballot. Who would vote for someone like that?!

Racists

PeanutAndBanana · 30/03/2024 17:48

I find this idea that crime in London being out of control interesting. Cuts to funding have made certain areas, including where I live, much poorer and with much more visible homelessness and anti social behaviour. Which is obviously terrible, for those directly affected and for those who don't have the safe experience on the streets that they used to. And the Met is a disgrace - I'm about as anti-police right now as I ever ever been. But that isn't Khan's fault and the idea that London is some lawless Purge-like zone is just not true.

dontcallmelen · 30/03/2024 17:58

Khan, not as enthusiastic as I was about him but no way would I vote for Hall she is absolutely appalling.

anicecuppateaa · 30/03/2024 18:41

Khan here too. I fully support ULEZ.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/03/2024 18:46

Probably Khan - but anyone but the Tory twunt really.

Theinjuredcleaner · 30/03/2024 19:00

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/03/2024 12:12

I hope Khan gets in again, there's going to be nothing like watching racists and racist apologists lose their mind if he gets in for a third term and they'll go around throwing around words like dictatorship and islamists 🙄

I felt that way when Rishi Sunak became prime minister after all the racism surrounding Brexit. Unfortunately, pissing off the racists doesn't make you good at politics.
