As soon as it gets a bit milder the noise starts.....

I know IABU (that's why I'm not posting there) - people are entitled to do as they wish. I am just unfortunate to live near someone who is home all day and as soon as the weather improves they're out with all manner of tools doing stuff in their garden.

Angle grinders, chain saws, shredders, banging, building stuff, working on trees, strimmers......

My garden office is very near their property and obviously isn't as sound proof as my house. I can work in the house but I like to separate home and work and my set up isn't ideal in the house.

I am just venting here because I'm on my own and just typing it out is helping me calm down. I've had a couple of other things today which have made me cross so I'm just a bit tense as it is.

Do noise cancelling earphones really work? Maybe I should invest.

We have a neighbour like this, every power tool known to man used liberally.

I feel your pain.

ADoggyDogWorld · 26/03/2024 15:13

I know it is annoying but people noise is to be expected. Could you work from an office/hub?

srailfonaidraug · 26/03/2024 15:16

"Do noise cancelling earphones really work? Maybe I should invest."

On noisy neighbours? Not as well as a 12" subwoofer and a spot of late-night rock/metal/EDM/reggae et al.

Nevermindtheteacaps · 26/03/2024 15:17

We just sound proofed our garden office.....

CharlotteBog · 26/03/2024 15:19

I can work wherever there is wifi, and I do take myself off sometimes - exchanging one annoyance for a different one!

If I knew the timings it would be so much better, it's the unpredictability that sets me on edge.

Well that isn't particularly conducive towards a good days work!

This gets to me too - endless leaf blowers is a particular bugbear.

Ah I didn't think of that. It would help with the insulation as well.

We've got one of those neighbours too. Power washing mainly, but a variety of other noisy tools too - as soon as the sun comes out.

Sprinterlady · 26/03/2024 15:23

@Coldupnorth87 we have one of those. He likes to burn things as well. Especially when washing is on the line.
This year should be a little quieter because the man with the hot tub moved house.

PutASpellOnYou · 26/03/2024 15:27

I have the same problem, my neighbour brags he is the the type of person who can't sit still so instead he makes it his life mission to make as much racket as possible all day long. He even talks really loud, as in shouts. He is incredibly wearing and to top it all tries to find me jobs as well. I am dreading it when he retires, the evenings and weekends are bad enough, he's even shouting out the window of his car before he pulls up on his drive. Drives me insane.

The bloke next door to my Mum and Dad power washes his broken patio 'crazy paving' for four hours a time every few days in summer. Then he does his tarmac drive. It doesn't look any bloody different, and the waste of water is fucking criminal.

He's just a bloke who's bored with zero awareness.

Winter mornings, I can lie in bed on a Sunday morning listening to peace, quiet and the odd bit of birdsong.

Summer mornings, and it's vrrroooom from the dickhead with the classic car, hummmm from the strimmers and lawn mowers, Buzzzzzz from the hedgetimmers and then the power washers (I can't do a noise for them)

Fucking Summer Fucking Wankers.

Give me machinery over the sound of children screaming or shrieking any day.

Noise cancelling ear buds are great

Nevermindtheteacaps · 26/03/2024 15:34

@CharlotteBog - yes it's now toasty warm too! DP works in absolute luxury

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/03/2024 15:35

Our entire road is like this. It’s never quiet ever.

Plus barking dogs and a guitar strumming twat 3 doors up. Who strums in his garden.

Also the kid practising his piano scales through an open window:

And the guy l call ‘The Droner’ sits outside from 9.00 am to 10.00pm talking non stop. Sometimes on phone, mainly seems to talk to himself. For 13 hours. Every sunny day.

Hate it.

Where do you live and would your DP like an office mate? 😁

I work nights and hate trying to sleep in the day time.

hendoop · 26/03/2024 16:12

We live in the sticks and it's quiet but our internet is shite- so it's a balance lol

Idontjetwashthefucker · 26/03/2024 16:15

Yep, another power washing neighbour here too - he goes for hours and hours and hours. Especially when you've just got a nice bit of weather and you go outside with a brew and it starts, and never fucking stops

LennyBalls · 26/03/2024 16:19

Not machinery but there is a house at the back with two girls I'd say about 10 and 7. They are forever arguing and fighting and screaming at each other at the top of their lungs. I really don't mind children squealing and playing but this is just ridiculous.

I agree with that why do so many children shriek. I’ve never understood letting them scream and shout as loud as whatever. You can talk and you can be louder than a talk when exited but screaming if for emergencies not playing with bubbles 😂

Beezknees · 26/03/2024 16:22

I love it. Everyone out having a good time. I live in a flat so I'm used to it!

HangingOver · 26/03/2024 16:27

The people opposite me bought their small son a karaoke machine. But I presume his tuneless singing of the same line over and over was too annoying indoors, so they put it on their balcony instead. 😑

TheCenter · 26/03/2024 16:30

I sympathise OP, I used to live in a semi and the neighbours played their music so loud I couldn’t take calls without them being disturbed. They were actually really pleasant to speak to - I think just so self absorbed they just had no idea how noisy they were.
