How many children do you have?

My friend and I were talking about how many children we would like to have. I currently have 3 year old twins and while it's been tough I'd love to have a big family of possible 5 kids. My friend thought I was bonkers and that that's far too many and she's content with her 3 mth old son.

I am one of 5 and there was never enough of anything when we were growing up. Always poor & excluded. I wanted a better childhood for my child.

Same here. One of 5 kids. Never enough affection or attention. Exhausted mother, hand me down clothes. I vowed I would never have more than 2. It was horrible.

One & I wish I had my time again, he's an absolute joy

I have 5.
Three are adults now (one married and moved out. Other two still at home)
And two primary age.

I always wanted 6 but the last one was so hard I got sterilised 3 years ago. Love having a big family but I'm an introvert these days and crave peace and quiet 🤐 my friends visit all the time because they love the liveliness of my house they say it's so homely and cosy. I just want to hide in a cupboard until they've all gone to bed most of the time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Same! Except I have a 4yo and 9m old.

It's the house (we only have 3 bedrooms), but it's also other things.. selfishly I don't want to go through another pregnancy. I don't want to give birth again. I feel like we can do a lot with the 2 we have. DH wants to stop at 2. I think a 3rd would only take away from what the 4 of us already have. We don't have family help. And we have a boy and a girl so I think it's safe to quit while we're ahead!

In no way is it selfish not to want to be pregnant or give birth again! I’m the same. Both are crap.

Dontcallmescarface · 25/03/2024 09:05

One. Love her more than anything but had no urge to have another. She's in her 30's now and I have no regrets.

darkchocolatecoffee · 25/03/2024 09:06

One and plan at sticking at 1!

We have five children. They're such a blessing 😁

TM1979 · 25/03/2024 09:27

I have 4 kids. 2 boys and 2 girls aged from 23 to 10.
We should really have 5 but I had 3 mc’s in an row and we gave up.
I only had 1 sibling and he died recently so now I’m pretty much an only child. Dh is one of 5.

Decafflatteplease · 25/03/2024 09:29

We have 4. We are very lucky, we wanted 4 and we got 4.

I never felt "done" until I had our 4th and the minute DC4 was in my arms I was like yup I'm done! However a few years on I wish we had gone for a 5th, but I'm too old and tired now and physically can't anyway due to surgery so probably for the best!

troppibambini6 · 25/03/2024 09:32

I have six.

Twi are step children but their mum died when they were young so they are the same as my birthed children. Birthed sounds stupid but I can't think of another word.

We have enough money to go round, I'm a sahm and I have enough time to give everyone attention. I'm busy but don't feel frazzled probably because dh does his share and we can afford to outsource stuff if necessary.

We have a large age spread too which helps (31-9) although the lsat three were quite close.

I'm an only child and absolutely hated it.

Andnowshesatoddler · 25/03/2024 09:33

Never did I imagine my daughter would be an only, but now she's here I cannot imagine adding another baby into the mix. We are financially fairly fortunate and could afford to have another but our support network is aging and so are we on top of that my daughter deserves the world I would rather give her the best childhood and show her and let her experience everything I couldn't as one of four I never even took the skiing letter home at school as knew no chance I want her to be the one running home with it.

Caffeineneedednow · 25/03/2024 09:34

I have a teenage stepson and 2 preschool aged kids. We are very much done and DP has had a vasectomy

SuePotato · 25/03/2024 09:40

We have 2, a 6 year old and a 1 year old

We would love to have one more. Just currently debating whether to start trying now or to leave a bigger gap.

mrsed1987 · 25/03/2024 09:57

Ds aged 5 and I'm 37 weeks with another DS. That's going to be enough for me, even at 36 this pregnancy was so much more tiring that the first time 😂

Darklane · 25/03/2024 10:10

One & never regretted it, neither does he. I’m an only & loved it growing up.
My DH has two half siblings one from each parent , but has no contact with the others, no falling out just they’ve never been close with each other. My only DS is married to one of four & it makes him doubly glad he is an only 😂

EcoCustard · 25/03/2024 10:24

I have 4 Dc. Ds9, Dd8, Dd6, & Ds 4(nearly 5). Didn’t plan to have any then at 34 decided to try for Ds1 after a surprise pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. It’s chaotic at time but I love it.

Silverumbrella · 25/03/2024 10:28

2 love them more than life itself but wouldn’t have wanted anymore.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 25/03/2024 10:38

1, got lucky and she was an easy baby/toddler and is an easy 7yr old.
Didn't think we'd get that lucky again in terms of an easy child so decided not to chance it, plus she doesn't want a sibling and we're not fussed about another. We also have a comfortable life with 1.
I do miss the baby/toddler years sometimes though, they are so cute!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/03/2024 10:49

One and I'm so glad we chose this

emmetgirl · 25/03/2024 11:02

1

PaintedPottery · 25/03/2024 11:05

I have one. I would have loved three or four but it turns out that my body isn’t cut out for pregnancy.

wurtle · 25/03/2024 11:30

We have two. I always wanted at least two but after giving birth to second it felt that's it no more. Also I got very unwell mentally when dc2 was a baby.

zurg123 · 25/03/2024 11:33

I have 1 and am very grateful for that. I'm one of 5, and whilst I love my siblings it's a PITA trying to organise anything.

Noshowlomo · 25/03/2024 11:39

2, but daughter stillborn, so one boy who is 5. I would like one more but I’m approaching 44 and cranky AF
