It is of course a sign of the times that this is all the Tories have got - they have nothing at all to brag about in terms of their performance in office, so dirty attack ads are going to be the way of things.

It’s a running theme on this series of threads. We like it.

I see. Well, I love the cat photos.

I know cats have an attitude problem, but blimey, that expression!!

Bless him, he has the face of a thug but the soul of a sensitive poetry-reading dreamer.

IClaudine · 25/03/2024 18:40

Do they think we don't know who has been running things for the past 14 years. This is utterly, utterly desperate.

Constructive sarcasm. Always helps a debate.

Forgive me, was there a debate, I'm pretty sure everyone knows Sunak is a failure.

Notonthestairs · 25/03/2024 18:54

In 22-23, 12,400 UK nurses applied for a certificate to work abroad, double the year before & 4 times more than 18/19.

7 in 10 were nurses from overseas - a sizeable amount of the extra 50k etc. Voting with their feet on what it's like in the NHS. A flashing alarm.

Given that these threads started out with the Johnson debacle, saw us through Truss with her lettuce, and are likely to outlast Sunak and the incompetents he calls a cabinet, I think it's fabulous that new members feel able to tell us that we are conversing incorrectly.

Piggywaspushed · 25/03/2024 19:00

That video is like something year 11 media would do with some random Googling of 'people rioting' and 'derilict (sic) houses'.

I can't quite place the Penn Station video - it's quite famous? Was it people fleeing because of rumours of lockdown or something?

Piggywaspushed · 25/03/2024 19:02

Ah, no - it's 2017. New Yorkers running after hearing reports of gunfire.

DuncinToffee · 25/03/2024 19:05

On GB news

https://x.com/implausibleblog/status/1772332284802203780?s=20

British farmer Colin Rayner, "Each day we get another regulation from the Conservative government. We're competing against food being imported from abroad which is using chemicals which we can't use in this country"

"I fear for food security in our country.. We need to grow food in the UK.. People say we can import food from South America"

"Post Brexit politicians have wrecked it for us.. We can produce most of the food that UK residents need to eat.. Flour.. Meat.. Vegetables.. But we have a Conservative Brexit government that are determined that we import our food from third world countries"

"Each day we are given another set of regulations by the Brexit Conservative government.. We've got more people in the office doing paperwork than actually growing food"

Well, quite. It should be clear to any passing poster that these threads have been running for a very, very long time and so there is likely to be an established vibe. I didn't start posting (on the Brexit threads and the Johnson thread) until I felt I had a good idea of what that vibe was and that I could contribute to it.

😂 I never said anything of the sort. But maybe that’s how this thread works too. Making conclusions up from well, not much.

Converse how you like, it works for you, I’ve got no view on how you converse in this thread.

I’ve got strong views about cats though. I’m a fan. I have 2. They don’t like publicity.

ps. I am concerned for Larry. As far as I know he’s not been seen for a while. Getting on a bit. Perhaps he’s only indoors these days. I hope that’s what it is anyway.

I never thought I would be starting threads on it Shock

I read the brexit, westminster, trump threads for a long time before finding the courage to post on it

I'm glad to see the constructive sarcasm, it's absence has been noted.

pointythings · 25/03/2024 19:12

@Absym the thing is that you appear to have come here to point out that because other countries are also having a tough time, we should just think that our government can't possibly be that bad and none of our troubles can possibly be their fault.

Which is manifestly bullshit. Even if all other countries in the world were the outer circle of Hell, this government would still be shit and we would still deserve better.

Absym · 25/03/2024 19:12

Christ this is worse than a playground. Gangs and all.

Absym · 25/03/2024 19:12

Christ this is worse than a playground. Gangs and all.

It really isn't, but if you're a big fan of our government you're going to have to tell us why.

IClaudine · 25/03/2024 19:13

Let's not be unwelcoming to @Absym I am sure they didn't mean to cause offence, they are just not used to the posting styles here.

IClaudine · 25/03/2024 19:14

Also, remember thread 7...

No. I simply posted research about other countries. Any illogical conclusion you’ve made that suggests that was me saying ‘our government can't possibly be that bad and none of our troubles can possibly be their fault’ is erroneous. But I’m getting the idea now.

IClaudine · 25/03/2024 19:17

What was the point you were trying to make, though absym? Yes we know other countries have difficulties, but that doesn't negate the fact that the UK is in deep shit thanks to 14 years of Tory mismanagement.

Same here, especially as my spag isn’t the best & was afraid I would be pulled up on it thankfully no one has ever has which I’m grateful for this is my happy space I have been educated/informed on all sorts of subjects laughed out loud on many occasions, these threads are very supportive & respectful.
echo IClaudine in welcoming any new posters.

Absym · 25/03/2024 19:26

I wasn’t ’trying to make a point’. I was posting research that I had found interesting, illuminating even. The tories aren’t my friend, I’m not a billlionaire, but we can see other countries are not doing well at all either. We need a change in gvt I agree. I’m under no illusion Labour will make anything better, at all. They are a change. Then in eg. 8yrs we will need a change from what will be their shit show. And so it goes on until once in a blue moon, we have a decent gvt.
