One of the most ridiculous things about this is the football team - the Lionesses would have been a much better choice but presumably too "woke" for the ultra right leaver vote they crave.

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2024 07:24

Well, tbh, neither is a good choice because neither is British. Twas ever thus.

IClaudine · 07/04/2024 08:27

I see the Daily Fail is still on about Rayner. They have found proof she was lying. The proof is a cushion or something.

Spandauer · 07/04/2024 09:22

Just saw this on Xwitter. Yet more shady goings on from the Conartists.

I just want them gone.

I hope Hall not only loses, but by a big margin so everyone can see where her kind of lowest common denominator campaigning gets you.

Zyq · 07/04/2024 09:37

I don't understand why Hall and her supporters think it's sensible to campaign by telling easily disprovable lies. In fact, I don't understand why Hall is a candidate at all. You would think Sunak would have been desperate for someone capable of putting up a decent performance after all those by-election disasters. Does he think they can sit back and let Ulez resentment sweep her into power?

BIossomtoes · 07/04/2024 09:40

They haven’t got a decent candidate to put up. The decent Tories don’t want to be associated with this iteration.

Spandauer · 07/04/2024 09:43

If I remember rightly, Shaun Bailey used fake County Hall leaflets in his unsuccessful 2021 Mayoral campaign and who can forget LittleLordFauntleroy's Zac Goldsmith's distasteful "specially targeted" leaflets to the South Asian communities in West London in 2016? Still lying through their teeth - all of London and they can't come up with anyone better than Susan Hall? (Thank God)

Zonder · 07/04/2024 09:45

The problem is some people do believe them. That's what they're counting on.

What I don't understand is how come Boris never got charged with Misconduct in a public office

https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/misconduct-public-office#:~:text=Charging%20Practice-,Introduction,of%20the%20public%20office%20held.

a public officer acting as such wilfully neglects to perform their duty and/or wilfully misconducts themselves to such a degree as to amount to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder without reasonable excuse or justification

The following have been held to be public officers:

elected officials (MPs, councillors, ministers, mayors)

https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/misconduct-public-office#:~:text=Charging%20Practice-,Introduction,of%20the%20public%20office%20held.

Maybe I should report a crime to the Met and see what happens

In any case, I think what we need is a law with teeth about lying. Or a more beefed up set of parliamentary standards with written consequences.

Edited

Boris Johnson should be charged with treason (unlawful suspension of Parliament) and corporate manslaughter (by his inactions there were deaths of government employees and he can be shown to be the controlling mind).

Misconduct in a public office would just be an addition.

My lifelong opposition to the death penalty is the sole reason I don't want him to be hanged.

Most of the ULEZ resentment I suggest is for people who live outside London and travel into it for work. Who have no vote for London Mayor.

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2024 09:55

There was a thread on this recently (surprise!). Most of the anti ULEZ types did indeed seem no to live in the area and be making things up

Many of the vocal supporters lived in London.

I've never seen evidence of anyone campaigning against the ULEZ scheme here nor do I know of anyone living in my (admittedly somewhat "leafy") London borough who is against it. 90% of petrol cars that are driven in London meet ULEZ standards.

New data shows that over 90 per cent of cars driving in outer London now meet the ULEZ standards

This surely must be illegal? Shock

Also a good way to get people to ignore actual tickets. And I'd find it very stressful if I had one on my car. I'd probably be extremely angry to find it was an advertising con.

AdamRyan · 07/04/2024 11:19

I did hear that the parties are having a massive problem getting their message out as noone watches the news or reads MSM as much, plus membership has plummeted. But that really is scraping the bottom of the barrel

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2024 11:30

I saw a tweet the other day from a Tory candidate claiming how nice it was to meet people in her constituency whilst standing in front of a closed door trying to put a leaflet through the letterbox Grin

I’d be posting it back to the local office without a stamp.

I stayed with my dad for a few months last year and joined some of the local village FB sites for tradesmen and road traffic updates. I can confirm that the Biggin Hill group was spectacularly anti ULEZ - I'd say 90% of the posts were laughing at the signs being sprayed over, vandalism to the cameras and general bad mouthing the scheme because they had to drive their diesel vans in to London for work. I had to leave the group because it was so aggressively male I decided I didn't want any of them in my dad's house!

The bookmakers seem fairly sure who will win.
