I think the circles are getting dangerously close - a lot of the fear re TWAW promotes an essentialist view of women as people who give birth and a lot of the GC fear in recent years has focused on TW discussing menstrual cycles, menopause and conversely opposing TM using terms like chest feeding for feeding their babies etc and coopting women's lived experience. This takes us way beyond fears for women's safety into territory where what is critical is defining female humans as those capable of the birthing role in reproduction.

The GC argument is not all about "fears". It's also about biological reality. You've just lumped it together for your argument.

dontcallmelen · 29/03/2024 11:36

@RafaistheKingofClay sending best wishes.
really showing my ignorance I didn’t know what pronatalism meant, every day a learning day thank you for educating me.

I think she was saying its moved away from being about biological reality to being about fear. That's how I responded anyway. But let's not argue about it on here . We can always make a thread in FWR to discuss! Flowers

I'm certainly not under the illusion that this will not be used as a wedge issue. And it stands to reason that the right will co opt it more as it is one of the very few issues a large percentage of the population agree with them on.

Ooh Jeffrey Donaldson is out after 'being charged with allegations of a historical nature...'

DuncinToffee · 29/03/2024 13:39

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 11:19

Yep, been taken down if it is the one I saw earlier. ETA: actually, think the one I saw is different as was not in AIBU.

With all the anti-Labour threads, it is always worth doing an advance search to check the OP before engaging.

I am trying to stay off MN for Easter as need to do something constructive! Whether I will succeed...have a lovely Easter weekend everyone.🥰

Edited

It was the one where you spotted the poster not being all it seemed

Have a great Easter weekend Easter Smile

I saw that , very worrying to think what these allegations are,

He has been suspended from the party

Mohamed Mansour, a Tory party treasurer who gave them £5m last year, is getting a knighthood

The Mohamed Mansour who was a Minister for Transport under Mubarak in Egypt.

Integrity wotsit and all that...

With dealings in Russia until very recently.

I remember him being discussed on older threads and it being brushed aside by certain posters

It's old news in so much as over the last two decades every Conservative treasurer (about 18 people) have been 'gifted' a peerage.

It's not a cheap way to get a gong however as I think they all donated millions of pounds to the party as well.

Wonder if Sunak was getting the gongs in early in case Starmer raises questions over some of the names Sunak presents.

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 18:38

I know I said I was staying off here today, and I have mostly, but grr. Why is MN allowing another thread by the same poster on the same issue?

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/03/2024 19:08

I’m just wondering what JKR’s response would be if someone suggested she should vote Tory to keep Labour out because they would target her. I know she’s fabulously wealthy but she doesn’t strike me as the Tory voting type of ridiculously rich.

To be fair it's going the exact same way as the first, with the arse being firmly handed over.

dontcallmelen · 29/03/2024 19:14

Was wondering the same, especially as they virtually disappeared on the previous thread very odd.

TheABC · 29/03/2024 21:35

It is really odd. I'm mildly GC, but there's no way I'd vote Tory after the past 14 years.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/03/2024 21:37

Liz Truss with her finger on the pulse of the sentiment of Good Friday.

Tories are desperate to cling on to being the party that knows what a woman is. What else have they got? Even Rwanda has slipped off the "let's panic the proles!" agenda. And what's Sunak up to, doling out the honours unexpectedly? If all the donors are paid up and now adequately rewarded, is he going to leg it to USA over Easter holidays and leave us with a May election?

TheABC · 30/03/2024 18:22

@newnamethanks, don't give me unexpected hope about a May election!

I still think autumn is more likely.

fabio12 · 30/03/2024 18:41

Was it ever released what Obama said or why he made his visit? I suspect it was a warning about the culture war rhetoric Sunak was starting to bandy about and how that plays out.

I'm also thinking on the post @Notonthestairs put up about the CoE and how it makes more sense now that Mogg hasn't been as chummy with the usual suspects, or as prominent at least. I suspect religion casts a longer shadow in Westminster than it would in the rest of the country in terms of allies.

@RafaistheKingofClay hope you are happily at home and recovered in time for Easter, or at least a hot cross bun or chocolate egg! Happy Easter everyone.
