Gullis in HILARIOUS trouble on @SophyRidgeSky, after accusing "pesky peers"/Starmer of blocking the Rwanda bill - for which, it turns out, HE ALSO DID NOT VOTE.

This is why this chimp was made deputy chair of the Tories. It stuffs his mouth with gold to stop him flinging poop.

More Brexit stuff

Dover health authority says inland border facility will be ‘open door for disease’ | Brexit | The Guardian

An inland facility set up to carry out checks on nearly all EU meat and dairy imports coming through Dover will be unable to cope when post-Brexit rules come in next month, the port’s health authority has warned.
The Dover Port Health Authority (DPHA) said the Sevington facility in Ashford, which is 22 miles inland, had not been designed to handle the scale of imports expected, and claimed its geographical position would “create an open door for disease and food fraud”.

The Cons have a majority in the HoC and the largest proportion of peers.
They could pass pretty much anything - just not batshit stuff.

BIossomtoes · 27/03/2024 21:51

How big is their majority now? It must be around the 50 mark by now. It only takes 20 odd of their disgruntled MPs to vote against them.

I know. I hope someone submits an FoI request to find out how much these “investigations” are costing. Since HMRC has confirmed she owes nothing and, even if she did it’s about £1500, this can’t be cost effective. It’s looking like sheer spite.

Notonthestairs · 28/03/2024 07:49

Not blaming Sunak for this one although the Government over successive periods should have known this was coming & done something about it. No doubt taxpayers will end up paying for it despite the fault lying with the company.

"we wrote last night that Thames Water shareholders were refusing to confirm they would provide fresh equity necessary for its survival

  • company has just issued statement confirming an initial £500m won’t be provided by shareholders by end March"

Official now, UK did go into recession last year, with GDP falling by 0.3% in final quarter of 2023.

Those 5 pledges are going well

Is that that vote tory thread in aibu (started at 2am) worth engaging with?

I only read the first page, there's a surprising amount of pushback against the OP.

pointythings · 28/03/2024 08:56

I also think it's appalling that a random MP can just dictate what the police do if they don't like the outcome of an investigation.

Angela Rayner tells Radio 4 if Sunak, Hunt and Tory deputy chairman James Daly publish their capital gains info, she’ll publish hers

Daly is the one who claimed most children who struggle in his constituency are the “products of crap parents”

OP posts:

James Daly has a majority of 105 so I'm not at all surprised he's thrashing about a bit. He was appointed Deputy Chair of the conservatives in February and a member of the Kruger/Cates 'family' New Conservatives

From Private Eye
Lord Ashcroft has calculated Angela Rayner owes £3,500 to HMRC.

Also according to Private Eye
Lord Ashcroft has avoided paying £112 million in tax by using his non dom status between 2000-2010.

From memory Ashcroft was made a peer in 2000 on the condition he became a UK resident. Hague gave written assurances that Ashcroft would pay millions in tax. You can see how that worked out.

DuncinToffee · 28/03/2024 11:09

This tweet contains a few newspaper clippings about Ashcroft's non dom status

Most people have pushed back, it is very heartening. The FWR lot have started to arrive, though.

I read it whilst having my late breakfast and yes it is heartening. Will catch up in a bit whilst waiting for the rain to ease.

The FWR lit will continue to be shot down on that thread. It's heartening to see how outnumbered they are.

It's brilliant isn't it. 30 pages of women pushing back on the ultra GC rubbish. It has properly cheered me up.

I'd forgotten about that! Hopefully Rayner can remind them of it

Except that barring a few GC ultras, most of what has exploded is confetti.
