If only they hadn’t just knocked 2% off NI … Personally I’d rather they ditched the triple lock than raised pension age any further. Sunak’s deluded if he thinks it’s a way of retaining the over 65 vote, it’s haemorrhaging to Reform with only 33% planning to vote Tory.

It's odd that they are so worried about people not being in work yet want to make the people who do show up have to stick it out longer. Do they think this approach is going to help people want to work? Then you have the whole women as carers now not being able to do those roles because they have to continue to work - grandparents not able to do childcare and look after their own families which increases the load on NHS and the barely there social services. Add to that the sudden announcement that even people on £100k are struggling and need extra help....are they really amazed we are all disillusioned? Our life expectancy will be going backwards on the pension age if they go much higher!

Raw sewage spills into England rivers and seas doubles in 2023

I've posted before with the links that show since Brexit the water companies have been doing this on repeat. They've got no one holding them to account any more! Again, people were warned by the experts - ignored. Unicorns are all slowly going "poof".

Victorious rowers in Britain's University Boat Race have been warned not to jump into the River Thames this weekend due to alarming levels of E. coli bacteria, as official data showed sewage spills hit a record high in 2023.

Out of all of the people to have been involved Brexit and still have a place in Westminster, you'd guarantee it would be that bottom feeder, Gove. I really do wonder if the effect his comments and scheming have had on this country will be studied in the future, marking him as one of the most detrimental people in power (who was never PM) in our history.

Both those options are terrible. We already get one of the lowest pensions in Europe. Let’s not let them erode it further, either in monetary terms or years required before getting it.

Realised that my post might be construed as directing my comments at Rafa - I meant I'm irritated by deliberately false or misleading Tweets. It doesn't help anyone's arguments.
If I don't want made up quotes from Starmer/Cooper/Rayner, I have to apply the same to Truss/Sunak/Cleverly.

It’s ok I really didn’t take it that way.

Aren't we also heading for taxing the new state pension as the SP overtakes the frozen income tax thresholds?

Dragging more people into Pension Credits.

THs are supposed to be frozen until 2028.

There you go, something else the Tories have increased. Aren't they doing well?

I'd have a bit more faith in the CofE if a bit of judicious smiting happened when called for. I live in hope 🙏

Notonthestairs · 27/03/2024 16:14

Article from Alan Rusbridger on the topic of Paul Marshall and his involvement with the CofE.

Marshall is part owner of GB News, Tory donor, cofounder of Ark Schools, Gove supporter and a likely bidder for the Telegraph/Spectator. He also seems quite influential in parts of the CoE.

And according to News Agents & Hope Not Hate he's a retweeter of some fairly unpleasant & inflammatory tweets.

www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/65415/the-marshall-plan-paul-marshall-gb-news

Might be wrong but I think the article might give a bit of helpful background to Farage's comments and the position GB News will take.

Sorry, I didn't mean to restart the brexit debate.

But it needs to be had.

I love the fact on here we all agree with so much and have different opinions on other things.

Debate is important.

A Brexit setback

Kemi Badenoch's frustration as Justin Trudeau slaps on new trade tariffs on UK | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Canada is set to raise trade barriers with the UK after refusing to engage in talks to extend a special post-Brexit relationship on zero tariffs.
The new tariffs are a Brexit setback and will hit the car industry most. In 2023, the industry was worth £700 million in exports to Canada, but the move will mean costs are passed on to Canadian businesses and consumers.
It comes despite efforts by Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch to open talks to extend a zero-tariff arrangement while the UK and Canada try to agree a free trade deal.
UK trade officials have been left mystified by Canada's refusal to engage in talks over an extension and have told Express.co.uk they have no idea why it would want to hurt its own businesses, as well as British ones.
But as of April 1, a 6.1 percent tariff will be imposed on vehicles and other industries will be hit too.

Kemi Badenoch ‘banging her head against brick wall’ over Trudeau trade tariffs

New tariffs between the UK and Canada are set to come into place on April 1 because of a failure to agree an extension to special exemptions.

Are they hoping for a Gullis bounce?

Westminster Voting Intention:

LAB: 44% (=)
CON: 24% (-2)
RFM: 11% (=)
LDM: 10% (+1)
GRN: 4% (=)
SNP: 3% (=)

Via @Savanta_UK, 22-24 Mar.
Changes w/ 15-17 Mar.

They've tried most of the others. They may as well scrape the barrel and hope for something to work

Jason118 · 27/03/2024 18:58

The lack of trade deal with Canada is enlightening. The fact that other countries make and sell cars seems to have entirely passed our negotiators by. If Canadian business could be hurt by UK tariffs, the hurt disappears completely by not buying from us. Simples, as they say.

ITV News

Robert Peston, "Brexit was a proxy for, effectively a much more significant divide within the Tory party, which is between essentially what you might call the Farage wing"

"He may not be a member, but there are lots of Tories who share his values, and then the traditional one nation Tories, and they have never been so disunited"

"Quite a lot of Tories say to me, when we lose, the Tory party will break up and there will be a new party"

"It may be called the Conservative Party, or it may not be called the Conservative Party, but they say this is an enormously important moment in their history, and they have to decide who they stand for"
