What do you reckon? Personally I would have preferred someone else.

OP posts:
DinnaeFashYersel · 20/03/2024 14:37

Sam Heughan would be delicious as 007

Or Henry Cavill

No no no, both completely lacking any sex appeal or charisma needed for Bond.

I don’t see how Bond could be anything but white. He’s from an old aristocratic Scottish family, remember the house in Skyfall, & wasn’t adopted

I totally agree, it would spoil his history if he was anything other than white. I love Idris Elba, but he’s not Bond. James Norton would be great.

Is he going to be Bond though or 007? I thought they killed off the Bond character at the end of the last film to open the way for a new character to step into the role of 007. Nobody else I've spoken to thinks this though, so maybe I've got it wrong?

UraniumArthur · 20/03/2024 15:15

Bond was killed - which means they may either start again and ignore that history, which is pretty much what they have to do anyway with a character that never really ages but spans 60 years. i.e. a Hard reboot. Once you get into the territory of ignoring the last Bond's death, you could also ignore whatever aspects of his childhood you wanted to.

Or they may just put a brand new character into the 007 number and give him (her) the Bond name, so anyone could take that role?

I've just assumed Regé-Jean Page is going to get it - because, if not, he's massively squandered the Bridgerton exposure he was given for nothing.

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 16:13

Did Bond actually die though? There were definitely some possibilities of loopholes.

Equally there might be scope for a reboot of the earlier films, and I can foresee a spinoff series with the female spy in the last movie.

Cornflakelover · 20/03/2024 16:32

I’ve been watching the Gentleman on Netflix and Theo James would be my perfect choice for the next James Bond

Cornflakelover · 20/03/2024 16:35

I think Theo James has the posh bit and the rough bit perfect in the Gentleman

I mean he kills a man and goes back and sleeps like a baby which is exactly what Bond would do 😂

Gall10 · 20/03/2024 16:37

havent a clue who he is!

Here in France there was the rumour that Omar Sy would be the next Bond, not sure how well he speaks English but he lives in America now so maybe it would be fine. I think he would have been great.

Bond really does need to be British, I think.

icebearforpresident · 20/03/2024 17:40

Not a huge Bond fan, I’ve only seen the PB & DC films and even that was only in the last year, so really not bothered either way but I did see the article about ATJ and think ‘….interesting choice’. I’ve only seen him in Bullet Train but when I saw the picture of him for a split second I thought it was Jeremy Allan White who plays Carmi in The Bear and thought he was a great choice.

Jack Lowden would be a good shout but could be be James Bond and River Cartwright? Because if he can only be one of them he needs to stick with River Cartwright.

He might have essentially ruled himself out at this point but I’m still rooting for Idris Elba as the next Bond.

Is an 18 year old not able to make their own mind up? I think it's absolutely none of your, or anybody's business. I disagree that it's 'creepy.'

Would you think the same if the sexes were reversed? 18 year old girl and 42 year old man?

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 18:24

Theo James ruled himself out years ago. Agree he fits the bill but said openly he doesn't want the gig

LlynTegid · 20/03/2024 18:26

I think it should be the end of James Bond. Long overdue, we still had steam trains when it started.

MinnieMountain · 20/03/2024 18:42

I think Henry Golding would be perfect. Plus he can fit the back story since he’s British-Malaysian.

Idris is unfortunately far too old. If they had ditched Craig after Skyfall, as they should have done IMO, he would have been perfect. I would still take Idris over ATJ (I would take Timothee Chalamet over ATJ!) but I really think that ship has sailed.

One name I haven't seen mentioned but I think could be good is Jacob Elordi. I know he's an Aussie but so was Lazenby, and his upper class English accent is really quite good. He's maybe a bit on the young side but better too young than too old.

Wise choice, it can be very limiting.

I thought of Jacob Elordi too, but he’s a bit baby faced

He's a little young, but he does have the look, IMO more so than many suggested on this thread (Sam Heughan? Not My Bond!)

Rollonsummer1 · 20/03/2024 22:40

Bond has got to have charisma and be light hearted.

They go to all out end of life stuff like they ruined sherlock... It's much better with smaller mysteries to crack even though they maybe world ending like gold finger, Dr no..

Apparently they want Nolan to direct and he wants to do bond in period which I think would be incredible.
I also think guy Ritchie would do a very very good bond.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/03/2024 23:41
    • Bond has got to have charisma and be light hearted.

Yes - that's why Connery, Moore and Brosnan were good, Lazenby was dire, Craig just not right and Dalton ...he looked the part but was embarrassed delivering quips the first three would have nailed.

OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart · 20/03/2024 23:49

Judging by all the media posts over the last couple of days I reckon it's James Martin. He does have history with Barbara Broccoli 😂

SOxon · 22/03/2024 00:30

David Gandy

TheGoddessFreyja · 22/03/2024 00:34

Was hoping on Henry Cavill being the next Bond 😩
