What do you reckon? Personally I would have preferred someone else.

Henry Cavill was in a Mission Impossible movie which I thought pretty much took him out of the running for JB? Plus he’s 40 now… I’d have enjoyed someone like Charlie Hunnam but he’s also too old for it now.
How about Richard Madden?

Yikes...I skim-read that as "Richard Madeley" Shock

YouCanGrowYourOwnWhey · 20/03/2024 00:26

Do they float suggestions in the media just to see the reactions to various actors?

I like the idea of an Asian Bond but I don’t rate Henry Golding as an actor. It’s a shame if Theo James has ruled himself out, I thought he was great in The White Lotus. I also like Jack Lowden but isn’t he quite short?

I’ve never seen him in anything, never heard of him in fact. I was hoping James Norton. Really don’t like Daniel Craig’s Bond, more squaddie than suave Commander

I agree with both of your points. I thought James Norton would have been brilliant, not too high profile and a great actor - can do gritty really well. Daniel Craig was a good Bond but yes, a bit too rough around the edges (and I say that as someone who has mixed with military types!)
Aaron TJ is a good actor but he's just a bit too pretty. And as said above, Tom Hiddleston really fucked up his audition! But - they do sometimes put out red herrings before the announcement so James Norton could still be our man...

Agree with others, Regé-Jean Page has that air of arrogance (not a bad thing!) that would have been ideal for the role.

ATJ is not a good fit.

My personal choice would be Tom Hardy but pfftt maybe he's considered too old now.

Sasqwatch · 20/03/2024 00:37

Disappointing, should have been Rege Jean Page.

dontcryformeargentina · 20/03/2024 00:39

I like ATJ and he gives me fanny gallops.. James Norton would be my second option

Theo James or Henry Golding

this!!!!

AngeloMysterioso · 20/03/2024 00:48

Google has informed me that Pierce Brosnan was 41 when he was cast as JB, and Daniel Craig was 37. Henry Cavill was the other serious contender last time but was ultimately ruled out for being too young as he was only 22, Sam Heughan also auditioned.

WhataPithy · 20/03/2024 07:58

As I’ve been binging One Day series, how about Leo Woodall?

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 08:01

Richard Madden is really short so that would present a lot of shot based issues. Like 5'7/8 short.
Jack Lowden isn't.

Profile of 007 actors tends to be:
Been in films but nothing mega and no other big franchises (Daniel Craig did Layer Cake just before, for example) and recognised, good quality telly eg. our friends in the North for DC. Solid proven actor.
Mid to late 30s for longevity. Can't go younger as Bond is a naval commander. Can't go too much older or you're recasting again in a few years + injury risks.

I was hoping they'd go back to a more suave/espionage/intellectual Bond this time and away from the early noughties crash bang wallop Bourne style Bond but if they've cast A T-J I can't see that.

James Norton fits beautifully into the profile of past Bond casting and he can play anything. The man is such a good actor (and a totally nice fella, so I believe)

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 08:02

My outside bet would have been someone like Leo Suter (Vikings, Victoria, Early Sanditon)

Beamur · 20/03/2024 08:02

I reckon ATJ is the right age, I think he's very charismatic on screen (no idea about real life) and i'd be interested to see how he is as Bond..

LenaLamont · 20/03/2024 08:05

If they’d cast Henry Cavill I would actually watch pay to see Bond films, as opposed to watching them for free when there’s nothing else on telly.

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 08:06

HC definitely has a high fanny gallop quotient for many women 🤣

SleepingStandingUp · 19/03/2024 21:58

He has a very versatile face tho, he looks better in Bullet Train

I'm sure he does have a very versatile face, it's just not Bond like enough for me.

vongo · 20/03/2024 12:36

I don't see Theo James as Bond at all. His face is a bit identikit handsome, no real character. Whereas I think Aaron Taylor Johnson and James Norton both do.

NoraLuka · 20/03/2024 12:51

Here in France there was the rumour that Omar Sy would be the next Bond, not sure how well he speaks English but he lives in America now so maybe it would be fine. I think he would have been great.

Darklane · 20/03/2024 13:05

I don’t see how Bond could be anything but white. He’s from an old aristocratic Scottish family, remember the house in Skyfall, & wasn’t adopted

Bovrilla · 20/03/2024 13:30

They'll cast British, it's a thing they specifically look for.

Not necessarily white Scottish aristocratic but they'll definitely cast a British actor

Soowoo · 20/03/2024 13:35

He’s not floating my boat - I’d prefer Henry Cavill

Riverlee · 20/03/2024 14:27

AutumnalLeaves38 · 20/03/2024 00:14

Yikes...I skim-read that as "Richard Madeley" Shock

Me too!

Riverlee · 20/03/2024 14:29

MeinKraft · 19/03/2024 23:27

Please god let it be Ben Whishaw Grin

Or any of the suggested (British) Bond actors suggestions.

Hoppinggreen · 20/03/2024 14:31

He looks like he needs a good scrub, with bleach.
There is just something a bit grubby about him in general.
He was Ok in Bullet Train but was acted off the screen by almost everyone else and I cant recall him in anything else.
But we will see, he might be ok given the massive Bond machine he will have behind him

JennyBeanR · 20/03/2024 14:35

I think he's gorgeous and I might actually watch the next one 😀

I've watched Anna Karenina more times than the film deserved!

JennyBeanR · 20/03/2024 14:35

But equally, I was hoping for Richard Madson
