Sanitary towels in nappy aisle

Baconking · 17/03/2024 13:04

They've re-jigged my local sainsbury's around over the last few months and closed down the pharmacy.
I noticed recently when looking for sanitary towels that they are in the aisle with the nappies and the signage over the aisle just says nappies nothing else. It's a new sign.

I was mildly irritated by this, not sure why, it just doesn't seem to sit right. Surely it should say feminine care or something and should babies nappies and fc go together? Seems a bit odd to me...

Just wondering what others think. I have no plans to complain or start a petition 😉

I’d expect maternity pads in the nappy aisle.

Itslegitimatesalvage · 17/03/2024 13:08

Period products are usually in the aisle with things like deodorants, cough medicines, vitamins, condoms. General over the counter “pharmacy” like products. They may have closed the pharmacy but they must still have their normal hygiene and medicine aisle. Why not put them there? So odd that we’ve been moved to the nappy section!

QueenCamilla · 17/03/2024 13:09

They'll rearrange the isles in a few months once again. To keep you on your toes (or help you discover new products, in supermarket-speak).

They could have a Things That Are Absorbent aisle

Nappies, tampons, sanitary towels, sponges, kitchen roll, mops...

brytersky · 17/03/2024 13:19

Probably some new male graduate manager who thinks they're the same thing "'cos leakage innit?" 🤦🏻‍♀️

The peppers in our local tesco are under the sign saying "cirtus fruit". Bin bags are under "Pet Food".
Not sure why they bother with the signs in all honesty.

RJnomore1 · 17/03/2024 13:35

I’ve seen nappies and sanitary towels/tampons in the same aisle a lot. Never noticed the signage but did think it could be upsetting if your ttc and having to buy period products…

DietStartsM0NDAY · 17/03/2024 13:38

We live in the Middle East and here sanitary products are labelled on the signs as 'Lady Napkins' took me a while before i realised 🤣🤣

kitsuneghost · 17/03/2024 13:41

In my tesco they have split the pet aisle so it is no longer contained on one aisle so non pet owners are have to go down them.
It's disgusting

@DietStartsM0NDAY one of my teen daughter's friends calls them "blood nappies".
Her family is Muslim and from Somalia originally - I don't know if that's a direct Somalian to English language translation.
It actually makes sense as "nappies" as is actually short for "napkins".

Needmorelego · 17/03/2024 13:46

@RJnomore1 yes if you go to a corner shop or convenience store they are usually on the same shelf all together.

Scarletttulips · 17/03/2024 13:48

Should be next to the car oil and spanners if the other thread is anything to go by.

Barleysugar86 · 17/03/2024 13:48

This does make sense when you consider the the maternity pads and the adult incontinent pads are sold alongside the sanitary towels. In my local Tescos they are side by side on two different sides of an L.

They all have the same basic underwear absorption function, I'm not offended by it.

Any aisle has lots of things sold on it that don't fit neatly into the category.

mitogoshi · 17/03/2024 13:52

There is a cross over of course because the tena lady are there too, which are useful for some women eg post birth, very heavy etc. It does make some sense, though not what we are used to. The signage is usually wrong anyway so can't get worked up about it

Disgusting for non pet owners to walk past pet products? Why?

Lifestooshort71 · 17/03/2024 13:55

I want to know why my Sainsbury's has moved the washing powders away from the cleaning aisles and they're now sandwiched between pet food and pet products? And why, when the local tea-leaves regularly wheel trolleys out full of bottles of scotch and vodka, they leave them stacked by the entrance? I've asked and couldnt get a coherent reply. Life's a mystery sometimes.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/03/2024 13:58

I accidentally bought cans of energy drink because they were sandwiched between two types of tonic water. That was clearly a mistake but I couldn't get worked up about them moving things about. There's always someone you can ask if you can't find what you want.

MintTwirl · 17/03/2024 14:01

I don’t think I’d even notice tbh. I always smile in home bargains as the sign is for ‘ lady care’ which sounds so twee to me.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 17/03/2024 14:03

My local Waitrose is the same, OP

I think it might have been a joke....

Deathraystare · 17/03/2024 14:39

I am forever trying to hunt down the incontinence pants and pads in Boots. Normally not near the sanitary towels (well not the pants) however the pads are near the sanitary towels...sometimes.

Yeah I think that's what they are going for. They probably put incontinence products with nappies and then thought might as well put San Pro there.
