Sanitary towels in nappy aisle

Baconking · 17/03/2024 13:04

They've re-jigged my local sainsbury's around over the last few months and closed down the pharmacy.
I noticed recently when looking for sanitary towels that they are in the aisle with the nappies and the signage over the aisle just says nappies nothing else. It's a new sign.

I was mildly irritated by this, not sure why, it just doesn't seem to sit right. Surely it should say feminine care or something and should babies nappies and fc go together? Seems a bit odd to me...

Just wondering what others think. I have no plans to complain or start a petition 😉

Same in our sainsburys. I had to ask this morning where nappies were. They’ve just done a redesign and it’s impossible to find stuff!

They could have a Things That Are Absorbent aisle

Nappies, tampons, sanitary towels, sponges, kitchen roll, mops...

Cat litter

CurtainsOfGrey · 17/03/2024 14:48

Or, it could be to do with the shelf profiling? Shelves are a pain in the arse to reprofile and the items are around the same size height wise? San pro and inco pads and pants and nappies and baby products all make sense to me tbh.

I really want a Things That Are Absorbent aisle.

I am forever trying to hunt down the incontinence pants and pads in Boots. Normally not near the sanitary towels (well not the pants) however the pads are near the sanitary towels...sometimes.

That's because sometimes the pants (and not necessarily the pads) could be classed as assisted living items, not san pro.

Period products are usually in the aisle with things like deodorants, cough medicines, vitamins, condoms. General over the counter “pharmacy” like products. They may have closed the pharmacy but they must still have their normal hygiene and medicine aisle. Why not put them there? So odd that we’ve been moved to the nappy section!

At ours all of that stuff is in the isle with all the baby stuff including baby food and nappies.

Sounds like a "for men" supermarket

"Stuff for the BBQ"
"Stuff your wife asked you to get and you can't find"

I've always wondered why sanpro and nappies weren't in the same aisle, personally. I think it makes some sense. Although I can, of course, see that nappies also fit in the baby products aisle too.

Not something I could get worked up over.

Disgusting for non pet owners to walk past pet products? Why?

I think it might have been a joke....

Smells really bad

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/03/2024 15:12

My supermarket has pasta and ingredients for Italian cooking in the same aisle as cereals.

They do this 'mixing it up' to get you moving around and seeing different products.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 17/03/2024 15:16

The signage in our local Sainsbury’s is so muddled they may as well make a single sign design to pop above their aisles that just says “Things”.

I really couldn't care less where they are to be honest.

Eh? A packet of towels or tampons is nowhere near as big as a pack of nappies. Or am I misunderstanding what you're saying?

VaccineSticker · 17/03/2024 16:16

I call them lady nappies 😆

Our supermarket gets round that by having the pet food on the same aisle as laundry powder. I'm not sure it's a good idea. Sometimes our cats' biscuits smell more like Persil than they should.

citrinetrilogy · 17/03/2024 17:02

Gets on my wick when they put Bovril in the hot drinks aisle and the Marmite a hundred yards away with the jam.

Important issue?? Miserable??

Do you have a problem with reading comprehension?

I thought the chat boards were for idle chit chat not just hugely life changing important issues, maybe you should try getting a life yourself!

Maybe it is a space issue? So the nappy aisle isn't full and the hygiene/medicine aisle is pushed for space. I must have a look at my Sainsbury's and see if this is a general change.

I prefer "period care" anyway, "feminine hygiene" is on a par with "lady care" and all the other twee ways of saying something without actually saying it.

I don't really like the use of the word "hygiene". It implies periods are dirty things.

I like that idea, very efficient to make all the signs the same and no need to swap the signs when the needlessly move everything around. In my Sainsbury's they have reduced the chocolate/sweets aisle and the "overflow" of chocolates are on the fizzy drinks aisle.

Do you think thy might have got someone's child in with their crayons to do a new layout?
