Sanitary towels in nappy aisle

They've re-jigged my local sainsbury's around over the last few months and closed down the pharmacy.
I noticed recently when looking for sanitary towels that they are in the aisle with the nappies and the signage over the aisle just says nappies nothing else. It's a new sign.

I was mildly irritated by this, not sure why, it just doesn't seem to sit right. Surely it should say feminine care or something and should babies nappies and fc go together? Seems a bit odd to me...

Just wondering what others think. I have no plans to complain or start a petition 😉

They could have a Things That Are Absorbent aisle

Nappies, tampons, sanitary towels, sponges, kitchen roll, mops...

Pasta and rice too, because they are also absorbent! 🤣

My local Sainsbury's pretty much has the pet products, laundry detergents and frozen in the same section. I'm still baffled by it.

Perhaps the pet products (the smelly aisle caused by some people's clothes smelling of dog or cat wee) is by the laundry detergents (spring freshness aisle) as a clue?

It usually takes my sainsburys at least 6 months to change the signs to reflect what's in the aisle after a reshuffle so it's probably just not been changed yet.

LlynTegid · 18/03/2024 14:26

I could not care less really.

I like the 'Things that are Absorbent' aisle heading idea though.

Perhaps after Saturday other that the IT director being fired, Sainsbury's could have a 'analogue means to pay' section!!

Many's a time I've helped out a desperate woman in the ladies with some emergency fettuccine.

I used to work nightshifts doing replen in sainsburys and the nappies & sanpro came together on a pallet as came from same warehouse so prob helps keep costs down as replen is quicker.
If the stuff is in different aisles someone has to break down the pallets & cages before the stock can be replenished.
Same as loo roll & kitchen roll.

I imagine it made it easier placing the adult incontinence stuff. Would you put adult nappies with nappies or sanitary pads? Might aswell put them all together and save the decision.

Iwasafool · 18/03/2024 20:10

Checked my Sainsbury's today and sanitary products are with toilet rolls, not sure if that is better or worse?

Shocking. They should be kept in a locked cabinet only obtainable by providing photo ID and an age check. "are you sure that's what you want Madam? Have you considered our Tena range?"

I'm old enough to remember being sent to the local chemist's with a note from my mother, the assistant would read and reach under the counter and bring out a brown paper parcel which I'd pay for and take home. Mad really as everyone knew what was in the "mysterious" brown parcel.

I never used to be able to go down the aisle with the washing powders etc as it gave me a headache. But since tablets/pods have became more popular its fine now.

Also in my local supermarket nappies are in a separate aisle to the sanitary towels.
