I’m a bit sick of reading food threads about how a loaf of Kingsmill is a dangerous public health risk, and how Peppermint from Wimbledon would be the size of a bus if she ate more than seventy three grains of rice in a sitting. Oh, and how I’m frankly letting my kids down by having fruit yoghurts in my fridge.

So, for those of us who read Nigella in bed, lick the drips from their kids’ ice cream and understand the mental health benefits of cheese after dinner, here is a joyful, judgement free thread about the foods we love. Whole meals, exotic experiments, or low-grade confectionary scavenged from the secret treats drawer. If it brings you joy, it’s all good.

For me, I love seaside and mountain food. Fish and chips by the sea, massive seafood platters (with chips and garlic mayonnaise). Fondue round a table with wine and friends (and dangerous quantities of cured meat). Also, my husband’s beef Wellington, sausages in the garden stuffed into baguettes. And tea and a Crunchie bar on the sofa, in a house of sleeping children.

Please share….

I love a good veggie curry with all the accompaniment, Dahl, naan, a pint of kingfisher, at least 3 poppadums…
and a cream tea!
not necessarily in the same meal though

Chicken flavour instant noodles, in between two slices of generously buttered thick white hovis bread 🤤

Strugglingtodomybest · 14/03/2024 17:32

I love crisps, if I had to pick one food to live on forever, it would be crisps. Salt and vinegar are the best, although pickled onions aren't far behind.

A massive fry up with fried bread. Washed down with a pint of tea.

A bakery in Newcastle makes the BEST stottie cakes in the world, and you can get them warm out of the oven for a quid...they do sourdough and granary too but I thought that wasn't in the spirit!

CommeIlFaut · 14/03/2024 17:33

I love all of these. But especially fried bread. I’d forgotten about fried bread and now really, really fancy some.

I also love salt and vinegar crisps. It’s the perfect salt-sour blend.

A peanut butter and crisp (cheese & onion) sandwich followed by a twirl and a large mug of PG Tips.

A bowl of Heinz tomato soup with white crusty bread and real butter.

A big roast dinner with all the trimmings followed by a big dollop of trifle.

GentlemanJack · 14/03/2024 17:37

Crumpets with lashings of butter.

betterangels · 14/03/2024 17:38

Bacon and eggs. I would eat it everyday quite happily. With toast.

Chocolate everything.

Crumpets with lashings of butter.

Ooh yes, with butter dripping through the holes and out the bottom.

Battered fish, battered halloumi, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Destroyed in one sitting at the "pirate chip shop" in Skeggy, the home of culture and fine dining! Also peanut butter and mashed banana on toast. Or tomato soup with pasta or noodles, cooked frozen veg cubes and grated cheese. I miss burtons fish and chips, iced gems and biscoff since going gluten free (had to, I don't believe it's "healthier")

needtoshrink · 14/03/2024 17:44

A perfectly cooked steak, covered in bearnaise sauce, served with thick triple cooked chips and garlicky buttery spinach. Dark chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis for pudding. Glass of good fizz to start, red wine with the steak and a pudding wine with the afters. Pure joy!

BouleDeSuif · 14/03/2024 17:45

I really love crisps. Not the fancy ones, the really lurid coloured ones like Tangy Toms and Scampi n Lemon Nik Naks.
Crumpets and butter and golden syrup.

Cheese on toast ( thick white bread) covered in fried onions, a fried jam sandwich rolled in sugar once cooked

needtoshrink · 14/03/2024 17:47

@CommeIlFaut if I had a choice this would be my final meal!

AyeupDuck · 14/03/2024 17:50

I’m making a chicken, leek and bacon pie with puff pastry tonight followed by jelly and ice cream, jelly is already made like the stuff we had as kids orange jelly with a tin of mandarins in.

Last night I did spaghetti with mushrooms bacon and cream with a lot of garlic followed by ice cream cones topped with crumbled up Oreo’s. We had 4 types of veg with the pasta.

TisTheDarnSeason · 14/03/2024 17:54

All of the above 😄

Honestly, I just love food. Pretty much all food, really. I'm not greedy but I rarely turn my nose up at anything, be it two-star Michelin dining with accompanying wine flight, or beans and cheese on white plastic toast and a cup of builder's. Food is a great joy and a comfort.
