How many rolls of kitchen paper do you use a week?

RainbowRedPanda · 12/03/2024 12:57

I was reading this guardian article about whether paper towels are eco friendly and it mentions a benchmark of a family of 4 getting through two rolls of kitchen paper a week.

That seems like an awful lot to me, we probably get through one a month.

2 rolls a week?? What are people using it for?
We use about 1 month!

Projectme · 12/03/2024 13:01

Crikey. No idea really but would guess one every 5/6 weeks?

We use about 2 rolls a month but that is the large Kirkland rolls ( Costco) , my sister uses about 2 rolls of plenty per week so if they asked her that may have pushed up the average

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 12/03/2024 13:02

One a year, maybe? Mostly use dishcloths that go in the washing machine with the sheets

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 12/03/2024 13:02

1 every 6-8 weeks maybe. I use washable cloths for most things.

KohlaParasaurus · 12/03/2024 13:04

None, it's not a thing we buy. I suspect the MN hive mind would declare our reusable cloths "grim". I round them up and chuck them in the washing machine every time I put a load of washing on.

MrWilyFoxIsBack · 12/03/2024 13:05

We use maybe half a small roll of kitchen towel per month. I have a big stack of multi-use cloths, so we use several of those per day in the kitchen and then they are put to soak and washed once a week. The cloths are also used for bathroom surfaces and windows and dusting etc. Paper towel is a mostly unnecessary expense.

Chickydoo · 12/03/2024 13:05

Bucking the trend, we use 2-3 a week. Always buy the recycled ones.
Mopping up pet food/pet accidents, wiping surfaces, cleaning things, blowing noses, sticky fingers. We use it for lots of things.

youngestisapsycho · 12/03/2024 13:08

Probably one a week… it goes in the compost bin tho.

kezzykicks · 12/03/2024 13:08

0 - it's something I have never seen the point of buying tbh

Rosesanddaisies1 · 12/03/2024 13:09

That’s ridiculous. I buy a pack of two probably twice a year. And mostly it’s for cat related mess.

But it still has to be made by cutting down trees. Get some reusable cloths

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 12/03/2024 13:10

2 a week?? What are people using them for?

We don't use any because we have a bunch of cloths/reusable wipes that we use for wiping up spills, wiping the DC faces etc. But even if we used kitchen roll for that I can't see how we'd get through anywhere near that much

AlltheFs · 12/03/2024 13:10

One every 7-10 days

We use reusable cloths for cleaning but use kitchen roll for cooking eg draining greasy things like bacon or storing things that need moisture absorption (if you put things like raspberries in a bowl with some
kitchen roll underneath they keep for much longer than in the plastic punnets). DD likes her wraps to have kitchen roll underneath in her lunchbox too as she says the ice pack condensation makes them wet.

We also use for cleaning things relating to animals eg wiping or drying the cat litter trays or hen feeders. I don’t want to have to keep separate cloths for cleaning in relation to cat or hen shit.

We use reusable cloths as much as possible though. I’d say we are quite high users and can’t imagine using 2!

thefamous5 · 12/03/2024 13:11

Zero.

Haven't bought any for about six years.

FurnitureAddict · 12/03/2024 13:12

Probably one a year. I used dish cloths, cotton muslins and tea towels which I then wash. I do currently have a roll under the sink but can't remember why I needed it

TheFlis · 12/03/2024 13:15

I buy the big rolls of Blitz and they last a couple of months at least. We mainly use cloths but kitchen roll is useful for draining fried food / spills on the floor / wiping grease out of a pan before washing up etc.

EndlesslyDistracted · 12/03/2024 13:17

Maybe one a month. We mainly use cloths but do use it for cleaning up cat sick, some food uses, laziness when I am doing food prep and CBA to walk across the kitchen to get a cloth. I had a friend who used babywipes for all cleaning and mopping and got through several packs a week but never bought kitchen roll, I thought that was worse

Raspberryjamsandwich · 12/03/2024 13:20

Definitely not 2 a week. Not unless the whole household had come down with a vomiting bug🤮

GinnyWizz · 12/03/2024 13:21

Yes, about 1 a month. Have made a concerted effort to use old clothing that can't go to charity due to staining etc as cloths for wiping up spills and we also use cloth napkins now too. Some people live kitchen towel though. My mum sees it as essential as say, a kettle!

PTSDBarbiegirl · 12/03/2024 13:22

Half a roll a week. Just 2 of us at home and we use it as napkins for every meal and to wipe and clean hob and wooden chopping boards. We don't waste anything so I'm happy with that. I'd say loo roll useage is more of an issue as it goes into waste system. Maybe we can be advised to use washable Swedish cloths in toilet too......

BiddyPop · 12/03/2024 13:24

I bought a 2 roll pack in December, and still haven't finished the first one of the 2.

I use a J cloth a lot of the time, with kitchen towel mostly being to dry fish etc before frying or to mop up sudden spills. Or the final swipe when cleaning windows.

I have a bunch of micrfibre cloths for cleaning and dusting purposes.

mitogoshi · 12/03/2024 13:24

One every month - 6 weeks

What are they doing ? Eating itGrin

We mostly use washable clothes, I think the kitchen towel is used mostly for putting fatty foods eg shallow frying Indian snacks, also really mucky spillage (dropped jar of sauce springs to mind) or blowing my nose when I've eaten chilli (chilli makes my nose run)

RedPanda2022 · 12/03/2024 13:25

Perhaps one a fortnight but we use them as tissues quite often so might be half that for other random uses
