Kate's photo appears "manipulated"?

Have just seen news saying that associated press have withdrawn photo as it appears "manipulated". V strange

People are arguing about it all but the fact remains, they released this photo. Why? Who knows because it’s so obviously edited to the point of potentially being fake. That’s on William and his staff, they put it out there. They’re feeding these conspiracy theories. The question is what is in it for them? Surely they didn’t do it on purpose? But maybe they did.

I suspect she probably isn’t looking great and any sleight of hand around the photo is to do with that.

Not sure why they would worry about her not looking perfect though - it’s not as if the vultures descend to dissect every glimpse of her . 🙄

I think Kate has had enough, what with all the infidelity reports and the "princeofpegging" stuff. William is reported to be an aggressive bully

Well if that’s the case we will find out in due course. Sometimes being seriously unwell makes you reevaluate. Maybe she is. Equally maybe she’s just recovering and doesn’t like the way she looks currently.

It's not literally about the touch ups, the outlets expect that on photos. Reading between the lines it appears that the authenticity is at question - ie. When was it taken etc.

Absolutely! DH started Ooh-ahing about it and I thought I don't give a monkeys. All press photos are touched up. This is a non story.

What’s the level of edit on photos do agencies accept?

I suspected something was amiss as soon as I saw it.

As a graphic designer of over 30 years, my only take on all of this is why would you let such a horribly edited photo out into the wild? We all know that most 'celebrity' (and product) photos are retouched - fair enough, it it what it is, and it pays my mortgage, but that picture looks like they let one of the kids edit it.

its very obvious Kate has been significantly ill. And from the pap shot a week ago doesn’t look well at the moment, which is completely normal. So they’ve taken this ridiculous step of heavily manipulating an image to make her look in full health.

They will accept things like colour enhancement, noise reduction, softening etc, but if it moves into a level of manipulation that it is no longer an honest representation they won’t use it, as they wish the public to trust their images are not misleading.

due to the extreme sensitivity here it will need to be very, very heavy manipulation for them to issue an immediate kill notice. So their software has detected something significant they can’t ignore. They won’t say though.

the only way it will come out is if someone has access the the image in the state it was released, and has the software and can say. But even then for fear of legal action and due to the Implications anyone smart or reliable won’t be willing to go there.

I commented on the other thread, apparently the agencies use software which detects digital manipulation, and can even undo it, can say what has been manipulated and how.

KP would surely be aware of this though - they would know exactly how sophisticated the technology is (or they should). Why would they risk this happening?

Go to the TikTok account "Allyn Aston" and watch the most recent upload! The creator has made a remarkable claim that the photo was most likely taken in November 2023 during a visit to a baby bank with Charlotte and George. The photos of that visit were released in December but the actual visit took place earlier.

1. Kate was wearing that identical outfit of a turtleneck sweater, skinny jeans and boots. The only difference is that her sweater was white but the size of the cowl, length and ribbing looks identical. The Tiktoker suggests they simply Photoshopped the sweater in the photo to make it dark blue. (This would explain why her head looks like it's almost floating a blob of black shadow when the rest of the image is taken in bright daylight).

2. Charlotte is wearing the same red sweater with the unique ribbed neckline, same tights and boots. In the Mothers Day photo she just had a matching red cardigan on top. Interestingly, her boots appear almost brand new in the picture from yesterday. Anyone with kids knows that shoes scuff faster than anything so the same pair would not look pristine in March 2024 if she was wearing them in November 2023. (Though giving them the benefit of the doubt that since they're Royal, they might get new boots every month).

3. George is also wearing a checkered shirt under a blue jumper just like in the Mothers Day photo. She suspects they photoshopped the white collar to make it blue and blend it in with the jumper so it's not immediately noticeable.

If all that is true then that would be a pretty dire deception and definitely warrant the image being pulled from media outlets. Perhaps this discovery was made by someone with access to the baby bank PR images (also available on various blogs), combined with AI image manipulation detectors.

Did no British media outlets question the photo ?

Did they only react once international agencies rightly questioned it ?

At the most generous assumption you could argue that it used the Google (?) phone technology - the one where it takes the best shot of each person and brings them in

At worst, it looks like it's been AI generated - and that's where the manipulation is bad because then it leads to all sorts of further questions.

Personally, I have no interest in knowing what was wrong with Catherine. She's been seriously ill and needs time to recuperate. She deserves her privacy.

But if the Palace are going to start submitting fake images to try and quell conspiracy theories then they've gone about it absolutely the wrong way. It raises far more questions than it answers.

I'm not expecting a prize for guessing the topic on 5live before I even touched the radio!
All the chat about photo fixing made me think of houses which usually look much better in the agent's photos than when viewing.
