When was the last time you cooked a roast dinner?

I think it was Christmas Day for me!

I used to cook the family a roast dinner every Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now it’s just me and a teen dc at home and they are really fussy and it’s a lot of food for two if you do a joint and all the works. I like leftovers the next day but they don’t.

Anyway maybe it’s because it’s Mother’s Day, I just thought I’d love a roast now. It’s too busy to go out so I will make the effort to cook next weekend instead. Are you someone who cooks every Sunday or rarely like me?

Not every week, maybe once or twice a month. I cooked one yesterday.

Randommother · 10/03/2024 16:46

I’m cooking one right now! It’s usual for us to do a roast on a Sunday.

Taylormiffed · 10/03/2024 16:47

Christmas day. I usually do two or three roasts a year.

We have a veggie roast every Sunday. My dh and I cook on alternate days though so today was his turn
Its not my favourite tbh but when my eldest came home and asked what a roast was at age 10 I felt we were depriving him of a British tradition.
Think he’d rather pasta bake these days though.

Now! We have one every Sunday. Do too much veg and then have cold meat and bubble and squeak on Monday.

MockneyReject · 10/03/2024 16:51

Same here - just me and fussy (vegetarian) teen.
I work EOW, so just cook a version of a roast, when we feel like it - usually on whatever random weekday I get off work.
A roast without meat, is just a dinner, really. Mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, vegetables and, usually, some form of Quorn or meat substitute.
Cooking for someone who only likes the same 10 or so different meals, isn't exactly inspiring.

I cooked one today, at work, for my clients ( adults with learning disabilities). One of them had invited their mother for lunch for Mother's day.

AuntieMarys · 10/03/2024 16:54

I never have! I'm mid 60s.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 10/03/2024 16:54

We generally do some sort of large lump of meat most sundays, though it might be a pot roast.

DH is in the kitchen now, doing a roast chicken, stuffing, potato cubes, croquettes and ratatouille.

Talkinpeace · 10/03/2024 16:55

Not for ages
because my amazing husband does them most weekends
(beef today)

AhBiscuits · 10/03/2024 16:56

A least once a month, usually more often.

BeaRF75 · 10/03/2024 16:56

I'm nearly 60 and I've never cooked one. Mainly because I don't want to eat one (I'm not vegetarian, but "roast dinners" just aren't very nice).

Riverlee · 10/03/2024 16:56

Nearly every Sunday during winter (we have barbecues during the summer), although to be fair, my son generally cooks it.

bloodyeffinnora · 10/03/2024 16:56

New years Day

AtleastitsnotMonday · 10/03/2024 16:57

I've cooked one today and probably at least 2 others since Christmas.

guineasgalore · 10/03/2024 16:58

Pretty much every week if we are not away. Sometimes it's a casserole and dumplings instead of a roast but usually something with gravy!

Waitingfordoggo · 10/03/2024 16:58

I don’t do one very often- maybe every 6 weeks or so. I have done one since Christmas I think.

Kangarude · 10/03/2024 16:58

Most Sundays. I prep and DH cooks. It was lamb today - delicious

Globules · 10/03/2024 16:59

October I think.

Cmas day was nibbly food for us

CremeEggThief · 10/03/2024 17:00

Christmas Day!

Aussiegold · 10/03/2024 17:01

Just done one, full works...chicken, stuffing, pigs in blankets, carrots, sprouts, parsnips, brussels, broccoli and not forgetting goose fat roasties.

There's 2 of us.....

TitaniasAss · 10/03/2024 17:03

I go through phases of doing a roast every Sunday then won't do one for months.

EndlesslyDistracted · 10/03/2024 17:04

About a month ago, we probably average one every couple of months. One DC doesn't like them and the other until recently worked in a pub on Sundays serving them so never fancied it.

treacledan71 · 10/03/2024 17:06

Every Sunday. If I am in the office on a Monday I will take left overs. I do the full works every fortnight and the other weekend when DH is at work I do a smaller version with chops , mash and veg. Try to do one in the week too again just a small one. Gets the 5 a day in.

Sgtmajormummy · 10/03/2024 17:06

Pot roast yesterday, less faff than most things as I sear it in a casserole on the hob, add liquid (10 mins) and veg, then send it on its way on a timer for 40 minutes while I do something else.
Full roast last Tuesday.
