When was the last time you cooked a roast dinner?

I think it was Christmas Day for me!

I used to cook the family a roast dinner every Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now it’s just me and a teen dc at home and they are really fussy and it’s a lot of food for two if you do a joint and all the works. I like leftovers the next day but they don’t.

Anyway maybe it’s because it’s Mother’s Day, I just thought I’d love a roast now. It’s too busy to go out so I will make the effort to cook next weekend instead. Are you someone who cooks every Sunday or rarely like me?

I cooked a roast last Sunday, I make one every week but not necessarily on a Sunday it just depends on what is happening. Plan is for a roast on Tuesday this week.

Leftover roast pork makes lovely pulled pork, and can be sliced into many Chinese dishes; leftovers without being a warmed over roast dinner again which might suit your teen a bit better??

Friday. Slow cooked beef. Potatoes done in air fryer. Sprouts carrots and peas. Gravy. Yorkshire puddings... The little ones out of a freezer bag.
Absolutely delicious.

Thursday the week before.

Today.

Every other week in Autumn and Winter. Love a roast, love roast carrots and love all the things you can make with the meat and bones the following week

SleepingMermaid · 10/03/2024 23:48

Never!

Mentquit · 10/03/2024 23:53

I have always worked on Sunday and husband is a climber …so very rarely.
My children are vegetarian so it’s not full roast when I do cook one !

justjuggling · 11/03/2024 01:26

I cook one most weeks. Big fat Yorkshire puds, cauliflower cheese, crispy roasties - can’t beat it!

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 11/03/2024 02:23

We have a roast most Sundays. Today was shoulder of lamb, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, broccoli, swede, lamb gravy and mint jelly. Tomorrow will be mash, lamb, Yorkshire pudding, green beans, cabbage, gravy and mint jelly. 😛

Sunday of last week - a roast chicken with cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes and gravy.

I don't necessarily do it once a week/month - it's more about when I have the time, energy and have found a nice piece of meat worth roasting.

Xmas day.

It's an awful lot of mess and grease for one meal. I cook from scratch but most of my meals take 30 mins or less.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 11/03/2024 07:26

Christmas Day.

It's way too much faff and cleaning for a meal that's eaten in 20 minutes.

shellyleppard · 11/03/2024 07:28

Usually do a roast dinner mid week, might just be pork chops, roast potatoes and parsnips and veggies. Last night I did braised pork tenderloin... not much waste either

Willmafrockfit · 11/03/2024 07:28

very rarely now it is just two of us
i do like a roast chicken, and potatoes

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/03/2024 07:30

Very rarely. We are not big meat eaters and prefer lighter food.

I made a quick roast a month or so ago as there was a small chicken crown reduced in the supermarket. Probably won't do another one for months.

ChristmasTreeMagic · 11/03/2024 07:34

We have roast chicken every couple of weeks - whole chicken, roast potatoes, sage & onion stuffing, parmesan parsnips, carrots, marrowfat peas, cranberry sauce & bisto gravy. We all love it!

I use any left over chicken to make chicken & broccoli gratin with hassleback potatoes & more parmesan potatoes (dc addicted to them!)

SallyWD · 11/03/2024 07:39

I cook one about once a month or once every 6 weeks.

BigMandyHarris · 11/03/2024 07:45

We don’t eat meat but still love a roast, or a variation of it. It’s something we tend to have in the week though.

IggOrEgg · 11/03/2024 07:52

Last weekend. If we’re home on a Sunday, we’re having a roast! Bloody love a roast dinner 😋

Iwant2beJessicaFletcher · 11/03/2024 08:43

I do one every Sunday. It's not my favourite meal but its DC1 & DC3s favourite so I do it every week.

About once a month I roast 2 meats as I get truly bored with the roast chicken they alway want so yesterday we had chicken & beef. Lots of leftovers for lunch today too which is my favourite bit!

cliffdiver · 11/03/2024 08:48

We probably have a roast 3 out of 4 Sundays a month. Possibly less in summer.

DH and I take it in turns.

Cantfindthewordsddstruggling · 11/03/2024 08:48

New Year’s Day. Our next will be Easter Sunday

Northernsouloldies · 11/03/2024 09:05

Years ago can't be bothered with the faff for just the two of us.

Willmafrockfit · 11/03/2024 09:08

its the vegetables that make it, the cabbage, mashed swede, imo, rosemary garlic roast potatoes

TheChosenTwo · 11/03/2024 09:14

We have one pretty much every Sunday throughout the colder weather.
Lots of veg accompaniments as one of the dc only likes roast chicken so when we have the others they will have the potatoes and the sides - Parmesan parsnips, baked leeks, chard gratin, roasted beetroot and other veg along with the yorkshires and gravy etc.

Parmesan parsnips sound amazing!! Do you have a recipe you wouldn't mind sharing please?
