Only 2 months ago, Anderson said that a vote for Reform was a vote for Labour.

Makes you wonder what his mum really meant Wink

@pointythings I’m not critical of wokery by any means but Starmer’s reluctance to be clear in the gender debate either way makes him vulnerable and it will be exploited. I don’t think people realise that Labour are not that popular up here, we’ve had a very poor labour council that made some questionable financial decisions and some people haven’t forgotten that. Our town as well as many other northern towns have declined massively thanks to tory austerity and people want change. Like the EU referendum vote they really think things can’t get much worse. Rightly or wrongly Labour are not an automatic shoe in as some think and I think we ridicule 30 p Lee at our peril.

My cousin lives in Hartlepool. He’s a self made businessman and you’d think he was a natural Tory voter. Except he’s not. When the town turned Tory he was wtaf? He said that money would have to be poured in because voters were expecting instant results. Well, they’ve had three years and guess what? Nothing’s happened, actually it has - it’s got worse. Reform got 368 votes in that by election.

Notonthestairs · 11/03/2024 13:10

John Major letting rip at current Tory party.
"3 PMs in one Parliament with a few malcontents seeking a 4th" doesn’t help perception of competence
Nor do a 'Supreme court ruling that the govt has broken the law' + ministers blaming + sacking civil servants who're not 'one of us'

I find this worrying actually. I think plenty of -hate to say it - but working class northern voters, many ex labour, leavers, will lap it up. They give not a damn that the party has laughable and unworkable economic policies, it’s all about the culture war rhetoric that the tories have persisted with. They’re obsessed about immigration and wokeness and hate marches (not my words btw)..Tice and now
30 p Lee will exploit all this and definitely attract the votes of those who have seem
their towns decline, are put off Labour by all the gender ideology wokery (and that will be exploited by Tories and reform in a GE). I live in the North and sadly can see loads of folk falling for it. Look how the media moved Farage back in the day….

I live in the East Midlands and it’s very similar. The town where I used to work had very few non white people yet to listen to conversations you would think the opposite was the case.

I can remember arguing with canvassers from the Brexit party in the run up to the 2019 party, but what struck me was that they were plausible people and not like the wing nuts from UKIP.

Zonder · 11/03/2024 15:22

I guess it was only a matter of time for 6 Bob Knob as I've seen him called lately. Sunak has such discernment in choosing who to promote, doesn't he?

newnamethanks · 11/03/2024 15:28

I suspect its quite easy to bully Sunak. I hope that's the explanation for his surrounding himself with the bullying racists he's appointed to Cabinet during his tenure and that they're not there by his free choice.

I've just read that article and Hester's comments are shocking.
There are a few politicians whose opinions I strongly reject but I can't ever imagine suggesting it would be much better if they died.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 16:11

The Guardian headline rather shies away form the fact that he said Dianne Abbott should be shot...

IClaudine · 11/03/2024 16:15

I just read that too. What an absolutely disgusting person

This.

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2024 16:17

It's horrible to read that, I really felt uneasy reading it.

Will Sunak say anything?

OP posts:
IClaudine · 11/03/2024 16:21

Sunak needs to return those donations ASAP.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2024 16:25

That Hester fella sounds a bit extremist to me.🤔

newnamethanks · 11/03/2024 16:28

Beyond disgusting. Someone tell Govey there's yet another ist in his party. Its like the Augean stables. Plenty to keep you occupied there, Gove, before you start on us. We can wait.

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2024 16:32

I missed the last line,

The Conservative party declined to comment.

Oh. That's a shock.

Spandauer · 11/03/2024 16:35

I don't often comment here but I'd love to know in just what 'context' those remarks would be OK! What an utter piece of shit.

TPP’s lawyers said the company fostered a diverse and inclusive workplace with a significant proportion of staff from minority ethnic backgrounds, and that Hester’s comments had been distorted and taken out of context, and were not a true or accurate characterisation of the company or Hester.

This vile man has now been bombarding Diane with messages.

Every single MP

You can not be selective about MPs safety because this racist gives you £10m!

Diane now being hounded this is unacceptable
If anyone knows him ask him to STOP

He also called all his “foreign” workers together to defend himself against online claims that he had made racist remarks

Sounds very much like the 'I have a friend who is black' excuse

Sunak said in his speech:

"Threats of violence and intimidation are alien to our way of doing things: they must be resisted at all times"

But it is OK when it's coming from a Tory donor?

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2024 16:32

They'll have to respond. You can't have donors suggesting opposing MPs should be shot.

But any comment will be worthless unless they reject his money. However cash is king and £10 million will pay for a lot of FB ads.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 17:00

fostered a diverse and inclusive workplace with a significant proportion of staff from minority ethnic backgrounds

A lot of gig economy employers and the NMW care sector could say the same...

Saucery · 11/03/2024 17:48

What a hideous man.
