It refelcts well on Sunak's judgement making him deputy chairman and sending MP's out to defend his comments about Sadiq Khan.

That’s an impressive left to right trajectory he’s taken over the past 6 years. At least he’s found a party that probably won’t throw him out for being a racist.

wonder how much reform paid him.

A lot more than 50 p

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/03/2024 10:58

Hopefully they won’t sniggle at him or they’ll have wasted their money.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 11:00

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2024 11:00

Lee Anderson tells @ChrisMasonBBC he won't be calling a by-election - big difference with when Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless defected to Ukip in 2014

In 2020, Lee Anderson voted for the Recall of MPs (Change of Party Affiliation) Bill - which requires an MP to call a by-election if they defect.

Reform are really interesting because they may pull some Tories even more right just when it's incredibly clear they need central voters. They could be destroyed at the next election on that basis. They bang on about Kemi Badenoch but it looks that the UK has had enough right wing politics. Getting more nutty is not going to help.

Notonthestairs · 11/03/2024 11:06

Meanwhile we are going to run out of space in prisons by Easter. Most prisons are already at over capacity.

The Government intended to introduce the Sentencing Bill which would scrap prison sentences of less than 12 months.

But again we have a scenario of the tail wagging the dog -

'However, No 10 and government whips are understood to be reluctant to move to the next stage of the legislation because of fears it would trigger another rebellion from right-wing Conservatives who have warned the legislation would expose the party as soft on law and order.'

Its a huge mess and was predicted years ago - rather build new prisons or change legislation they have sat on their hands until we reach crisis point.
There are no excuses.

They could do but I am actually worried Farage is going to start up this new party, or maybe Boris will be the figurehead. Cummings was also talking about a new party on his recent blog posts. I think we have a new UKIP being paved the way for. I suspect this is why the AI and bots are going a bit screwy too.

There was a post from a lady I used to dog walk today on my FB, bemoaning the sudden stopping of funding from Gov to our local homeless charity (aw, I though, how caring!) followed by a paragraph on how angry she was we were spending thousands on those "not our own" to house them and how fed up she was at the Gov "not putting our own first" ... So, I think people who are leaving Tories are looking for another party like UKIP as they did when Brexit happened. This woman is unlikely to vote Labour IMO.

pointythings · 11/03/2024 11:12

Under FPTP, Reform is likely to split the Tory vote. Much as I want PR, right now my violin could not be smaller.

Can we all take a moment to sniggle - his word - and point and laugh at 30pLee who's finally signed up with Richard Tice? Apparently he finds such behaviour very upsetting. And he's also been doing 'a lot of soul-searching recently'. I wonder if he's going to find one.

If he does it won’t be residing in his body. What a joke that man is.

Grapesarenottheonlyfruit · 11/03/2024 11:18

I find this worrying actually. I think plenty of -hate to say it - but working class northern voters, many ex labour, leavers, will lap it up. They give not a damn that the party has laughable and unworkable economic policies, it’s all about the culture war rhetoric that the tories have persisted with. They’re obsessed about immigration and wokeness and hate marches (not my words btw)..Tice and now
30 p Lee will exploit all this and definitely attract the votes of those who have seem
their towns decline, are put off Labour by all the gender ideology wokery (and that will be exploited by Tories and reform in a GE). I live in the North and sadly can see loads of folk falling for it. Look how the media moved Farage back in the day….

bombastix · 11/03/2024 11:20

@fabio12 - I agree that it is likely to split the Conservatives. But I still think that the UK is mostly small c Conservative not full fat right wing nut job. Most people want competence, and will vote accordingly.

Still we will find out who the Reform voter is; Red Wall Right Wing? What sort of person are they? I don't think they are conservatives as I would understand it though.

BIossomtoes · 11/03/2024 11:26

Look how the media moved Farage back in the day….

He failed to get elected as an MP seven times. Ultimately it didn’t do him much good.

pointythings · 11/03/2024 11:26

@Grapesarenottheonlyfruit those policies didn't help UKIP gain swathes of seats, and won't help Reform do the same. As for going on about Labour gender wokery - let's not forget who's been running the country letting it all happen, shall we? 🙄

newnamethanks · 11/03/2024 11:26

Valid point grapes and that's what they're banking on, grabbing the disaffected working class vote, especially in the North which has suffered most since Thatcher decided that half of the country was economically unviable. Levelling up? Made me laugh when I heard it and couldn't believe people bought it. And now it looks as if they might buy it again. It's very depressing.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 11:42

I think most people, at the end of the day, are quite traditional in their voting. Most people in Anderson's constituency recognise a total prat when they see one. That's why he won't call a by election.

Absolutely. I can see it returning to Labour again after its brief flirtation with madness.

newnamethanks · 11/03/2024 11:49

I hope you're right piggy. Apparently, 30p's mum told him yesterday that she's very worried about what's happening on the streets of London and he should join Reform to get our country back. My mum has been dead for many years but if she were able to meet Lee and his mum she would definitely be able to address their mutual concern and call it out for what it is. At which point Govey would materialise to call us extremists. Dear God.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 11:51

I really don't think as many people care about London as Lee and co seem to think.

It will return to Labour if they pick a candidate who isn't too wishy washy Starmer like.

Grapesarenottheonlyfruit · 11/03/2024 11:54

@pointythings I’m not critical of wokery by any means but Starmer’s reluctance to be clear in the gender debate either way makes him vulnerable and it will be exploited. I don’t think people realise that Labour are not that popular up here, we’ve had a very poor labour council that made some questionable financial decisions and some people haven’t forgotten that. Our town as well as many other northern towns have declined massively thanks to tory austerity and people want change. Like the EU referendum vote they really think things can’t get much worse. Rightly or wrongly Labour are not an automatic shoe in as some think and I think we ridicule 30 p Lee at our peril.

IClaudine · 11/03/2024 12:10

Starmer’s reluctance to be clear in the gender debate either way makes him vulnerable and it will be exploited

But Labour has been clear in recent months, as has been pointed out ad infinitum.

Rightly or wrongly, most people give the gender debate little thought on a day to day basis.

I know some would like to think it is going to be the deciding issue for a GE, but it won't be. Especially since Sunak's recent fuck up means the Tories might be less keen on weaponising it.

cardibach · 11/03/2024 12:11

Zonder · 10/03/2024 20:14

Who are these 50? What a joke.

Well, she thinks it could save 80 Tory seats so presumably they are MPs who fall into that group…

IClaudine · 11/03/2024 12:12

More votes for Reform UK =more losses for the Tories. 30p is doing us a favour.
