Sounds like the lady from Godalming made quite the impression. Lovey of her to show up what utter greedy, selfish wankers Tory voters and MPs can be to the rest of the huntry.

itsgettingweird · 23/03/2024 06:12

I watched that The test with politics. She san amazing woman (we are same age and school year). We have extremely similar views and both have disabled children and have been LP living in social housing.

I didn't realise how much our views aligned until I watched that. Especially with the people can make something of themselves but need a leg up and state nurture POV.

My respect for her has increased 10 fold. Also agree Rory is such a nice guy and such a shame he's a line voice in his party nowadays.

itsgettingweird · 23/03/2024 06:16

Meant to also say our views re social media and the no one sees you can agree and disagree but still make decisions are so alike.

I say daily SM has turned people into a mindset with you aren't 100% with them - you're against them. And the works just isn't - and won't work - like that

JessS1990 · 23/03/2024 06:19

I think it is nice that the Chancellor has identified that housing costs are a huge problem for many people.

Presumably he is now going to do something about the damage done to many people by unscrupulous private landlords like the Chancellor, and that done by his predecessor as Chancellor?

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2024 07:45

He'd fit in well on Mumsnet.

Notonthestairs · 23/03/2024 07:51

I presume he also mentioned what he was doing about the 3.6 million children living in absolute poverty?

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2024 08:01

Go on cakes's thread and you will see people arguing that the definition of poverty is the problem, not poverty itself.

Notonthestairs · 23/03/2024 08:29

Oh that comes up every time absolute poverty is mentioned doesn't it. Generally without any reference to how they'd prefer we measured it and zero intention to engage with how best to solve it.

Notonthestairs · 23/03/2024 08:40

While you were sleeping govt published this. 👇👇👇

By 2050 we're going to need another 5 billion litres of water per day, 35% more than currently supplied, we don't have it nor the means to supply it.

Now you know what 33 years of profiteering and regulatory failure looks like

www.gov.uk/government/publications/a-review-of-englands-draft-regional-and-water-resources-management-plans/a-summary-of-englands-draft-regional-and-water-resources-management-plans

Reader - we haven't built a reservoir in 30 years and the next one won't be operational until 2030.

As I said on a school's thread it's a tactic used any time a poster uses official statistics. Even the government don't quibble over the definitions.

Britain is five years into a large rise in economic inactivity due to ill health – the longest sustained rise since the 1990s

The most staggering thing after those five years, and given how big the rise is? That the government (and for that matter research world) know so little about what is causing it and what to do about it

The same pattern is showing up in claims for disability or ill health related benefits. Claims for PIP among 16-17-year-olds are up 138% in the past four years.

Obviously @hmtreasury and @DWPgovuk does know what they can do about that spending (we’ve had several cuts announced already although not coming into effect until post election) but addressing the root cause not just the symptom is the task…

Lots more on what the data tells us about this trend in a new @resfoundation note from @_louisemurphy. And if we’re honest, so much more to find out - ideally the world of health research would know a lot more about why we’re getting sicker…

Are claims for PIP up because of the transfer from DLA to pip at 16?

My ds would have previously remained on DLA like many young people did previously but he was transferred because it had rolled out fully to everyone transferring at 16 the point he applied iyswim?

InMySpareTime · 23/03/2024 10:38

The young PIP claimant rise could well be due to people needing to claim for the first time for chronic conditions when before COL pressures they were just about getting by without help.
There comes a point where the need for support outweighs the fear and hassle of the application, and a lot of households are crossing that point.
I put off applying for PIP for 5 years after becoming unwell, but applied last year as I need (and now have) a Blue Badge, but the process is gruelling and dehumanising and I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to.

BestIsWest · 23/03/2024 11:00

She is absolutely the kind of person we need in politics today.

IClaudine · 23/03/2024 11:02

That is such a good interview. I have always been a bit ambivalent about Ange, but that article has made me like her a lot more. She will be a great deputy PM. I just hope she can cope with the shit that will be thrown at her.

BIossomtoes · 23/03/2024 12:00

I think she can cope with anything. She’s a tough cookie and the Tories are running scared of her. I love her authenticity.

How can they not know that trashing the NHS to the point people can't get GP appointments and help before illnesses get chronic and bringing in zero hours contracts would create more sick people unable to work? Geniuses, clearly.

Agree with everyone about her.

I always liked her but learning so much and seeing her interviews there's just something about her and "authentic" sums it up.

She just has a really natural honesty about her and I agree that's what scares the Tory's.

Boris was "likeable" in their view. But Angela is likeable as well as competent.

Agree with this. And the snobby attitude of some Tories about her

DuncinToffee · 23/03/2024 16:07

I always thought calling her Ange was a way to talk her down by our friends, so now I know she prefers to call herself that, I am happy to join in Wink

I thought that too, nice to know they were using her preferred name all this time.

Happy to wave him off

Is there a crowdfunding site to pay for the flight?

Could we sell flags to raise the money, then wave them as he leaves?

cakeorwine · 23/03/2024 17:16

I am not sure why making in blue is "woke" or virtue signalling.

What is it supposed to be signalling?
