What a hideous man.

Definitely a case of being judged by the company you keep.

BIossomtoes · 11/03/2024 17:59

No words. That article embodies everything that’s wrong with this iteration of Tories. Absolutely disgusting.

Sunak said in his speech:

"Threats of violence and intimidation are alien to our way of doing things: they must be resisted at all times"

But it is OK when it's coming from a Tory donor?

Edited

As I said elsewhere, his words will come to haunt him.

Sunak is judged by his actions, not his words. And we know when he fails to act

cakeorwine · 11/03/2024 18:01

Looks like he could do with some equality and diversity training/

Or is that too woke?

Meanwhile we are going to run out of space in prisons by Easter. Most prisons are already at over capacity.

The Government intended to introduce the Sentencing Bill which would scrap prison sentences of less than 12 months.

But again we have a scenario of the tail wagging the dog -

'However, No 10 and government whips are understood to be reluctant to move to the next stage of the legislation because of fears it would trigger another rebellion from right-wing Conservatives who have warned the legislation would expose the party as soft on law and order.'

Its a huge mess and was predicted years ago - rather build new prisons or change legislation they have sat on their hands until we reach crisis point.
There are no excuses.

They have repeatedly voted to defund the police, criminal justice and prison systems, and expect us to believe they are not soft on law and order?
They have repeatedly broken including the Prime Minister laws they have introduced, and expect us to believe they are not soft on law and order?

Either they are very stupid or think we are.

The Guardian headline rather shies away form the fact that he said Dianne Abbott should be shot...

Presumably Gove has reported him to Prevent?

Presumably Gove has reported him to Prevent?

Enough evidence there

cakeorwine · 11/03/2024 18:25

cakeorwine · 11/03/2024 18:24

Enough evidence there

I think it would be more fun to ask Gove general questions about if someone should be prevented if they did certain stuff

And then bring up specific examples of Conservatives

cakeorwine · 11/03/2024 18:27

"The New Conservatives grouping of MPs, led by Danny Kruger and Miriam Cates, said that while they criticised Anderson’s move for making a Labour election victory more likely, it was the responsibility of Sunak and his party to keep MPs on side.
“Our poll numbers show what the public think of our record since 2019,” they said in a statement. “We cannot pretend any longer than the plan is working. We need to change course urgently.”

But I am sure Sunak says we should stick with the plan?

Well that's a change.

Quite astute of the New Conservatives to realise that their bonkers policies aren't popular with the public and urging the Prime Minister to ignore them and go back to where the Conservative party used to be.

BIossomtoes · 11/03/2024 19:23

However urgently they change course it’s too late now.

As anyone plotted all of Sunak's changes of course?
Perhaps he is trying to spell something?

Thing is, the course they want to steer leads straight to the rocks (whereas the current lot are taking a slightly more circuitous trajectory)

newnamethanks · 11/03/2024 19:49

They are particularly obnoxious examples of 'new conservatism'. Straight for the rocks indeed.

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2024 19:58

"Mr Hester has made clear that while he was rude, his criticism had nothing to do with her gender nor the colour of her skin. He has since apologised."

Or is that too woke?

There was a news story doing the rounds on radio yesterday about how councils spent so much money on woke policies such as inclusion and diversity. 🙄

John Crace had a heart attack! He seems to bo OK though.

So not racist and absolutely fine to suggest shooting an MP?

YABU to think that just because he mentioned skin colour it had anything to do with skin colour. He’s just very misunderstood and being persecuted by woke people.

The Conservative party’s biggest donor told colleagues that looking at Diane Abbott makes you “want to hate all black women” and said the MP “should be shot”, the Guardian can reveal.
Frank Hester, who has given £10m to the Tories in the past year, said in the meeting that he did not hate all black women. But he said that seeing Abbott, who is Britain’s longest-serving black MP, on TV meant “you just want to hate all black women because she’s there”.

How can that not be about her race or gender?

I can see Rosie Holt having a field day with this - and I feel for the Minister tomorrow - was Lee Anderson racist, is Hester racist?

L1ttledrummergirl · 11/03/2024 21:23

That so few Tories are speaking out, shows how normalised racism is within the party. They all think it's fine. The whole lot are as bad as each other.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2024 21:30

The only two politicians I can find calling it out are Dawn Butler and But Jeremy.

Notonthestairs · 11/03/2024 21:42

Hhhhmmm. Choice between doing the right thing. Or keeping the money.

The Tories won't speak out about Hester because they don't want to give back £10 million of donations.

They'll duck & hope the news cycle moves on. Which it will.
