In January I had a PE and had a terrible experience - waited over 18hrs in A&E with only an Xray and bloods in agony and was eventually sent home alone by a young English doctor, who said it was muscular and anxiety based (despite a previous Dr giving me oramorph and thinners a few hours beforehand). He told me I had a CT booked in for the following week and sent me home. 5 days later in agony and I ask GP for the discharge notes, as I wasn't given them, and lo and behold no CT booked in and the whole episode was down as "Anxiety". Pain so excruciating and almost unable to breathe I was blue lighted back in, another 22hrs sitting on various chairs and finally a CT was agreed, which showed large clot had taken out half of my lung. Sent home on diagnosis (which was given in a room with an elderly man shouting behind a curtain in the same room) with thinners and told to wait for a call from Hematology. Didn't even get to see the scan. I was very lucky a female (African) doctor actually listened to me this time and ordered a scan or I am confident I would be dead. I never got anywhere near getting a bed!

Slightly amazed that Sunak has given his MPs the nod to bunk off Parliamentary business for the next week. One line whip - they are free to go back to constituency business or go on holiday.

Pushed the urgent Rwanda bill to mid April.

It's almost like there is nothing for them to do.

Then I realised that he probably doesn't want them gathering together too much - what's a good way to fend off a plot? Send them home.

From Sam Coates this morning

I know - from conversations with senior gvt figures - the decision to send everyone home / one line whip until Tuesday was to placate Tory MPs and ease tensions.

It was a sweetie thrown at them at the start of the 1922 in the warm up act before PM address. A bone thrown to the hyenas before the showman entered the ring

You can’t be cynical enough about this…

@fabio12 it's terrifying how your symptoms were dismissed as 'anxiety ' just because you're female.

fabio12 · 21/03/2024 10:21

@DuncinToffee @Notonthestairs yes, I live alone so it was terrifying - plus as his article says you start wondering if you are causing symptoms, which if you are told are all down to anxiety do make you worry you are wasting people's time. In the support group not a single one of the men has ever been told it was anxiety and sent home. I'd say over 95% of the women have been told that. It's a very sexist system still with women's pain being ignored or downplayed still. Very reminiscent of the "hysteria" days sadly. It's hard to advocate for yourself after such a long wait and in pain, but I do think it's worth making others aware as it does seem a common way for women with PE to be treated.

Anyway, enough of my medical issues! I'm doing much better and back to walking the dog after a couple of months now, so on the mend thankfully!

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2024 10:35

Yes I'd agree there is misogyny at the heart of it. Throw in overwhelmed staff/resources/infrastructure and it's far too easy to see how women in pain would be overlooked.

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2024 10:37

"You can’t be cynical enough about this…"

Nice early Easter holiday for over mighty MPs AND by delaying bringing the legislation an opportunity to blame Lords/Labour for the fabled flights not taking off.

DuncinToffee · 21/03/2024 10:37

More from Sam Coates on the Rwanda vote

A senior Tory Lords source tells me they are furious Rwanda legislation not being voted on by MPs this side of Easter, pours scorn on idea Royal Assent doesn’t change and says they won’t be able to get anything like the turnout of yesterday after treating them with contempt yesterday.

There was a huge whipping operation to get that turnout yesterday because they were told it was an emergency and urgent.

After sending MPs home on 1 line whip, this influential tory peer said they can “forget it” getting anything like that turnout again.

Poor peers being asked to show up and vote Hmm

Women's health issues are often written off as "anxiety". How terrifying for you Sad

BIossomtoes · 21/03/2024 10:41

Good for them for refusing to support this contemptuous government is what I say. At least if they don’t show up to vote they don’t get their £342 a day.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/03/2024 10:53

@fabio12 Have you put in a complaint about that treatment. The next patient that doctor treats might not be so ‘lucky’.

mibbelucieachwell · 21/03/2024 11:51

Flowers from me too @fabio12 . How terrifying and frustrating.

I was really struck while having treatment for cancer how common it was for women's symptoms to be wrongly put down to IBS while men are investigated much more quickly. Definitely a hangover from the hysteria line of thinking indeed.

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2024 11:53

The Conservative Party candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral election has defected to the Reform Party, PoliticsHome understands.
Dan Barker, a Conservative activist from Sale, was selected as the Tory candidate in December 2023. The Reform Party confirmed Barker will now stand as its candidate in the Manchester Mayoral election which will take place on 2nd May.

Not entirely clear what's going on here but certainly no love lost between Barker and the Conservative Party.

Sunak's pledge 'stop the boats' is going well

More than 500 migrants are believed to have crossed channel on Weds - highest number in a day so far this

Cumulative number of arrivals by small boats in 2024 now stands at a provisional total of 4,043, 10% higher than same point in ‘23 which saw 3,683

Awful treatment Fabio12, glad to hear you're on the mend.- Women eh? What do we know? Especially about our own bodies, we should listen to the experts who live in the male version.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/03/2024 12:49

Does that figure sadly include the number that died trying?

DuncinToffee · 21/03/2024 13:09

Easter holiday delayed?

No 10 declares a ‘migration emergency’ as it piles pressure on Parliament to pass the Rwanda Bill. Noting that 514 people crossed the Channel in small boats yesterday, the PM’s spokesman said: ‘Without this Bill, thousands of people will continue to be trafficked across Europe’

@fabio12 im so sorry that must have have an awful experience for you really glad you are on the mend, health shouldn’t be down to being lucky that you were listened to eventually it’s very frightening 💐

Cornettoninja · 21/03/2024 15:04

@fabio12 that sounds hellish and I’m so pleased to read you’re back walking your dog! They’re good friends to have keep you company whilst you’re getting better.

on current political shenanigans - if they want their horrendously illegal bill pushed through, why don’t they call the GE and put it in their manifesto? It’s my understanding that anything in a winning parties manifesto will be basically voted through as the will of the people. Smarmy fuck Rishi could finally give that voice to the ‘silent majority’ he keeps banging on about. (All questions posed are entirely rhetorical. We all know SFR wets himself over actually being held accountable)

Labour lead at 25 points in latest YouGov poll for The Times

CON 19 (-1)

LAB 44 (=)

LIB DEM 9 (=)

REF UK 15 (+1)

GRN 8 (+1)

Obviously the Conservatives won't look at the numbers and think Hhhmmm maybe we need to be more centrist. No, they'll be scrabbling around for more r/w policies because that will help.

Sad but true.

They
L see all those votes they've lost to reform and try and win those back by going further right.

They can't do the maths that those 15 won't take them above the 44 predicted for Labour.

Bloody idiots that they are

I watched a news report that said when in France speaking to asylum seekers many didn't even know about the Rwanda plan (great deterrent!) or those that did mistakingly thought getting here before the bill passed meant they wouldn't be deported there (possibly hence the sudden rush of people attempting the crossing)
