Strange things that give you the heebie jeebies?

Was chatting about this with some friends recently. Lighthearted!

I have an irrational fear of sunflowers. They're HUGE! I also go a bit cold when I drive past big industrial structures like cooling towers.

Anyone else get the jeebies over something strange?

People.

😂 DON'T LOOK IN THE MIRROR!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/03/2024 19:58

My DH has the same thing about sunflowers! They freak him out. I used to get it about blood but then I became a blood donor lol

Adventing · 01/03/2024 19:59

Donald Trump's voice. Genuinely found it very adversive in the first few months after he was elected and had to turn the TV off when he came on.

@justasking111 what would being Asian have to do with not opening your blinds?
Next door neighbour is an attractive, intelligent, white mum and she constantly has her curtains closed. Is that a thing as well? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I googled it! Couldn't help it. I'm not sure what my eyes have just seen 😳

I did warn you.😄

MotherOfVizslas · 01/03/2024 20:14

I'm scared of lifts. I'm not claustrophobic. I think I've just watched too many "worst deaths imaginable" TikToks...they often seem to involve lifts😬🫣

lovemycbf · 01/03/2024 20:17

Woodlands give me the absolute creeps
I don't even know why they just make me feel fearful

izzyb6488 · 01/03/2024 20:17

Earrings that make a large hole in your ear lobe 🥴 [shudder]

TootsyPants · 01/03/2024 20:18

Weirs, canal locks, deep dark water, ships in dry dock, aquaducts, those nodding donkey things at oil drills.
Barton Bridge in Manchester and reservoirs.

My 'heebie jeebie' things are ferns and fungi. They're interesting and pretty but SPORES! How dare they spray their sperm everywhere without asking 😆 I do eat mushrooms occasionally ... I can never forget that I'm eating a fungus sex organ!

I also get the willies (hah) about parasites and viruses, etc. All that reproduction in an unconsenting body [shudders]

oh well now I'm thinking about fungi sperm!

Cuppachuchu · 01/03/2024 20:21

Long false eyelashes and long false nails. They make me shudder.

It's possible that if I was 20 years younger I might have worn them but I don't think so.

Allotments, it's where the bodies are buried.

Also, cotton wool and belly buttons.

Don't say that, my house is built on an old allotment site. We'd better not do too much in the garden. Who knows what we might find 😳

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 01/03/2024 20:23

Multi-storey car parks when you’re the only one or two on the floor.
Loft hatches.
Shapewear.
Glass/mesh mezzanines or floors up high.
Bulbs, or more specifically, tubers.

Cuppachuchu · 01/03/2024 20:23

OMG those toads! 🐸

AmyDubanowski · 01/03/2024 20:25

The condensation that forms in a lunchbox, yuck 🤢

I have trypophobia. It's a disputed condition but I feel disgusted, sick and anxious if I see lots of small holes or bumps. If anyone recalls the old Sanex advert of swaying naked people, that triggers the same reaction. Weird.

I didn't realise what this was what I had until that advert. I remember watching it and saying to dh, omg, that advert goes through me. Since then, I've noticed it more.

Thingsthatgo · 01/03/2024 20:37

New build estates before people have moved it.

Those green men faces made of leaves and foresty stuff.

Watching someone take out contact lenses.

When you cut a peach open and the stone splits open

mrswhiplington · 01/03/2024 15:24

I'm with you on the holes thing.

Whatever you do don't Google the Surinam toad. It has holes in its back and all its babies emerge from them. It knocked me sick the first time I saw it.🤑

I hate lotus pods so you would think I wouldn't have the strange compulsion to Google this toad...and yet for years I have!

I'm OK with a lot of hole clusters, can't do spaghetti hoops but crumpets are fine, even a bee hive for the most part but that pod...hate the fact they seem so popular at Xmas.

Amillionmenwenttomowameadow · 01/03/2024 20:43

Wells, there are two uncovered ones in the woods by our house. First of all dangerous for kids and dogs, secondly, creepy as hell
Cotton wool in you mouth/teeth
Polystyrine
Raw chicken

Large bodies of water give me the creeps. I think it's that you can't see what's in there.

Also mirrors in the dark.

Yes mirrors in the dark.

Turned off all the lights last night (DH out, all DC in bed, house dark and quiet) put my phone torch on to guide my way up, it shone all the way down the hall and lit the mirror up and my ghostly illuminated reflection in it.

Shit myself? Why, yes sir.

Taylormiffed · 01/03/2024 20:46

Herons.

Hermione101 · 01/03/2024 20:47

Beachfronts with lots of concrete as seen in a lot of British seaside towns, just screams antisocial behaviour to me. Anything post-apocalyptic just gives me the creeps.

justasking111 · 01/03/2024 20:55

Wells and old mine shafts, sinkholes. It's the fear of falling into one.

OH electric scooters, bikes cars seeing the fires that are impossible to put out.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 01/03/2024 20:56

Soft cheap plastic - like the shoes on a Barbie doll, it's horrible

Eyeliner - I love it but cannot apply my own. It's like my brain thinks what if my hand slips and I poke my eye out

Toes - it anyone's toes touch me...urrgh. especially if staying in bed, half asleep and partner's toes touch my leg. Shudder

Clowns - always found them sinister, why would a grown man want to plaster himself in makeup and be unrecognisable unless for bad purposes.
