Strange things that give you the heebie jeebies?

Was chatting about this with some friends recently. Lighthearted!

I have an irrational fear of sunflowers. They're HUGE! I also go a bit cold when I drive past big industrial structures like cooling towers.

Anyone else get the jeebies over something strange?

Oh and low flying planes.. being able to see the underside clearly just freaks me out 😳

I love looking at the underside of planes. More than I’d be prepared to admit IRL.

Mullioned windows in old buildings.

In fact applying for headship, there were two schools (1500 builds) that I discarded as I knew I couldn't have worked in them, especially after hours, alone.

Rishi Sunak

Always wish for a ‘laughing’ button and not just ‘thanks’ - great answer.

Wrennie24 · 01/03/2024 19:14

Huge cruise ships. Just make me shiver. I just couldn't get on one.

I hate any talk of Space or especially our Universe and what’s beyond it ? How can it just end and nothing be there? It freaks me out and gives me a horrible shivery feeling a bit like thinking about what happens when we die.

I am the complete opposite - I love space talk! I find the thought of a vast empty nothingness very calming as it makes my problems seem insignificant.

Long red fingernails however make me feel sick 💅🤢

Several years ago the BBC ran an ident (I think that’s what those mini videos they run before the main program are called) which was a giant face made up of thousands of other faces. I found it pretty disturbing and was quite relieved when they pulled it following loads of complaints from others who said exactly the same.

Polystyrene

Wet wool

Hairs loose in water like when you're washing your hair etc

Squeaky eye - anyone else get that? Just happens randomly?

I don't know how to describe this but certain types of puppets or animations where they're meant to look 'real' iyswim? Like Polar Express for example or an advert that was on for a while where the people had knitted faces. Does anyone know what I mean?

Totally. It’s called the uncanny valley. Clowns, fake mouths, all very bad.

TastyLikeARaindrop · 01/03/2024 19:18

Kids with wobbly teeth and then the gummy flappy bit when they fall out 🤢

The feel of microfibre cloths

The word 'scalp' 😱

Dh putting his contacts in/taking them out.

IcelandicBerry · 01/03/2024 19:19

Two days after my second baby was born I took my first dd to a soft play birthday party at......a closed down theme park.

American Adventure. We turned a corner and there were these big fibreglass heads in a wall. I'm convinced it is related to just having given birth but now I'm wary of a load of manmade structures that I was never afraid of before.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 01/03/2024 19:19

Great big shipwrecks. I am weirdly both fascinated and horrified by them. When they send little submersibles in to film them I go absolutely cold at the thought of being trapped in one underwater. Bloody idiot.

Justletmelogon · 01/03/2024 19:19

Ridges or ripples, like iron filings, or cartilage on chicken bones. Or in nature. Like wiggly lines.

Matted hair on people or animals.

Wooden knitting needles, the feel of them scraping together. And no clickety click like metal ones.
The wooden tongue thing at the doctors and I'm sure the smear scraper looked like this and makes my innards shiver.

IcelandicBerry · 01/03/2024 19:20

Here's a link to a discarded head.....I can't google properly because I don't like them!

I have an irrational hate/fear of the weird sprouts that grow from potatoes when you've forgotten about them/ they've been lost at the back of a cupboard.
I refuse to touch them and make my husband clear them out

That'll be the eyes following you around the kitchen.

I'll see myself out.

Adventing · 01/03/2024 19:29

Penne pasta stuck to the bottom of a pan.

wild mushrooms in grass/on trees but grass especially i shudder! mannequins in historic buildings hate then standing there in their creepy armour and bustley dresses!

My 'heebie jeebie' things are ferns and fungi. They're interesting and pretty but SPORES! How dare they spray their sperm everywhere without asking 😆 I do eat mushrooms occasionally ... I can never forget that I'm eating a fungus sex organ!

I also get the willies (hah) about parasites and viruses, etc. All that reproduction in an unconsenting body [shudders]

Cotton wool! I can’t touch it!

Yep, I'm the same! HATE the stuff. The worst is when it's used at the dentists...Eugh given myself goosebumps just thinking about it!

justasking111 · 01/03/2024 19:34

Adult Toe nails if DH touches me accidentally in bed I hate it and move away. Can't look at men in open sandals.

Clowns I blame Stephen King.

It's pretty reasonable to be freaked by giant, stuck heads just after giving birth!

ElsaMars · 01/03/2024 19:35

Walking barefoot on a wet floor, yeuch!
Dolphins, close up they have massive teeth, I was quite scared.
Also, I always imagine I'll lift up the toilet seat and find a severed head in there for some reason.

AceofPentacles · 01/03/2024 19:37

Amazed someone else said things that are too big! Especially if they are out of context like a big tractor wheel on a transporter on the motorway (ugh!)

Also textures that don't go together like water on dry brick or wool and metal 😬

Teenagelament · 01/03/2024 19:41

Men's trousers with pleats. Especially when displayed on a torsoless mannequin with a belt.

Bows on anything.

Twitch45 · 01/03/2024 19:49

Polo neck jumpers
The sound of people eating rice cakes
Having wet/damp socks/cuffs

mentallyilltotallychill · 01/03/2024 19:50

When you leave a potato too long and it gets the “eyes” or white lumps on🤮 cannot touch or look at them they just freak me out like they’re “alive” (im not even vegetarian or vegan).
I get my 10 year old to grab it as a “oh do me a favour and throw that out / peel that one” 😅

fruit or veg when you get it and its merged like a strawberry thats 3 grown together (if that makes sense)

Thinking about the vastness of space and how small our universe is in comparison to everything else and how theres more stars than grains of sand on earth like just totally weirds me out.

Also shop mannequins, walking past one makes that side of my arm just feel odd.

lambhotpot · 01/03/2024 19:52

Wooden chip forks and ice lolly sticks. I cannot bear to put them in my mouth <shudder>

Me too! Also wooden spoons for cooking 😷
