Strange things that give you the heebie jeebies?

Was chatting about this with some friends recently. Lighthearted!

I have an irrational fear of sunflowers. They're HUGE! I also go a bit cold when I drive past big industrial structures like cooling towers.

Anyone else get the jeebies over something strange?

OP posts:

Wooden chip forks and ice lolly sticks. I cannot bear to put them in my mouth <shudder>

I came on to say that, even thinking about them makes my mouth water like I'm going to be sick 🤮

Cloudful · 01/03/2024 14:06

Dams. I get an awful feeling in the pit of stomach if we have to drive past one. And on a smaller scale, used stickers make me cringe 🤢

Ooh I love these threads! Grin

XiCi · 01/03/2024 14:08

Submarines. For some reason I'm chilled to the bone whenever I see a picture of one

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/03/2024 14:08

Also OP top marks for use of "heebie jeebies". So underused these days

I’m kind of with you on the sunflowers. I planted some once for my children to water and grow and they all turned their giant heads towards the kitchen window. Always watching!

They actually sleeping triffids. Fact

shellyleppard · 01/03/2024 14:10

Stairs with no backs on.....takes me forever to go up those 😕 also raw chicken, I wear disposable gloves if you have to chop any up.

TheFireflies · 01/03/2024 14:10

Diggers, large machinery. I once had a dream that they became sentient and attacked, and I’ve never got over it 😂

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/03/2024 14:11

The sound that fake nails make when people use their phone or any touch screen. That tap tapping sound just makes my stomach flip.

See also false nails in general, I always feel queezy as I imagine them all full of dirt and grime.

Dry cotton wool, wet wollen jumpers.

Donald Trump and the sound of his voice, shudder

User505351 · 01/03/2024 14:12

Another vote for huge industrial things, swimming pool drains, wave machines.

Also human sculptures that are either high up on a building or larger than life size.

I think it's a perspective thing. Things that look a bit wrong in relation to the ground or wrong in size to how they should be.

BouleDeSuif · 01/03/2024 14:13

Open curtains at night so you can see the dark outside.

ILikeMyCoffeeWithTwoSugarsInIt · 01/03/2024 14:14

I have an irrational hate/fear of the weird sprouts that grow from potatoes when you've forgotten about them/ they've been lost at the back of a cupboard.
I refuse to touch them and make my husband clear them out

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 01/03/2024 14:14

The sea. Big hulls of ships. Submarines. Broken glass

My husband’s phobia too.
I hate seeing large fish in pools, the sea, aquariums, anywhere where they’re swimming. I don’t mind seeing them dead though.
Clowns freak me out, there’s something very sinister about them.

Tlolljs · 01/03/2024 14:16

Custard powder. I think it’s the squeak.
mice and rat’s shoulder blades. Bit niche but there it is.

storminabuttercup · 01/03/2024 14:16

Walking round a lake behind people who are fishing. Always imagine I'll get hooked when they cast or whatever it's called

Stairs with gaps at the back

Raw chicken - especially watching other people touch it

Lurleene · 01/03/2024 14:20

Having one hand wetter than the other. If one hand gets wet I have to get the other wet to even it out. Makes me squirm.

Mishmashs · 01/03/2024 14:20

My husband has a fear of armadillos and pangolins. Luckily we don’t encounter too many in the UK! Even looking at a picture of them makes him feel sick.

dontforgetme · 01/03/2024 14:25

@Squit

Same here! Especially someone running up stairs behind me, urgh I don't know what it is but I've been the same since I was a child.

Anyone going near my neck. I was tickling my son the other day and his face touched the side of my neck and the feeling of terror that runs through me is absolutely horrible!

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 01/03/2024 14:26

Anything with holes in

Big bodies of water

Ships. Possibly boats of any size actually

Touching raw meat

SnakesAndArrows · 01/03/2024 14:28

Those adverts where a mouth is superimposed on another mouth (adult/child, human/animal).

Chimpanzees.

The crackling sound of a badly tuned radio.

MadeForThis · 01/03/2024 14:29

Clusters of holes.

LittleGreenDuck · 01/03/2024 14:31

Allotments, it's where the bodies are buried.

Also, cotton wool and belly buttons.

KitchenSinkLlama · 01/03/2024 14:39

People touching their eyes. Wiping them, rubbing them you name it. It makes me feel faint and nauseated.

Words · 01/03/2024 14:53

Another vote for clusters of holes. There is a medical term for it, which I've forgotten.
