Strange things that give you the heebie jeebies?

doorframesatdawn · 01/03/2024 13:43

Was chatting about this with some friends recently. Lighthearted!

I have an irrational fear of sunflowers. They're HUGE! I also go a bit cold when I drive past big industrial structures like cooling towers.

Anyone else get the jeebies over something strange?

Those videos showing deep pools that have several layers and ‘rooms’. Absolutely freaks me out as I nearly drowned as a kid.

The sea and anything submerged in it! Like buoy's and the underside of ships!
Don't get me started on figure head's

Horrible.

It's called submechanophobia.

Holes -crumpets, lotus pods, caves etc. Even years ago my late gran had one of the old telephones where you out your finger in the hole and dial round.

The photos in the opening credits of "cheers"

The texture of crispy towels that haven't been washed in fabric conditioner

Silence. I can't bare it, even if working from home, TV is on for background noise. I fall asleep with headphones in.

Being next to huge lorries on the motorway.

Polystyrene cups.
Wooden cutlery.
Paper straws.

With you on all of these - especially wooden cutlery. I keep a metal camping set in my handbag 😂

Add also lollipop sticks and cotton wool.

Sensory issues, moi?

Beingboredisgoodforyou · 01/03/2024 23:10

The dentist packed my mouth out with those tight little cylinders of cotton wool and they made the squeaky noise.

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

Sorry? Why do think it’s ’a thing’because the husband is Asian??

Beingboredisgoodforyou · 01/03/2024 23:17

@usedtobeasizeten Not a thing here either. Lots of Asian neighbours all with very normal curtain habits.

The drains/filters in swimming pools. And don't even get me started on the wave machine.

Oh god yes. And buttons

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 01/03/2024 23:18

Metallic thread. 😖

cerisepanther73 · 01/03/2024 23:23

@greengreengrass25

Me ,oh yes forget about that one

Lattice sliding metal bars type of lifts

I 🤔 think it's the combination of a prison like large contraption of bars and a lift

It's the feeling of potentionally being trapped 😕 in a relatively small/medium size space and lift malfunctioning possible type of senerio..

seeitthroughmyeyes · 01/03/2024 23:25

Gas masks from WW2

seeitthroughmyeyes · 01/03/2024 23:26

Or when you are stood next to an incredibly tall building. Makes me feel uneasy

HRHElizabeth · 01/03/2024 23:29

The weirdness of a choppy sea (especially if it’s raining) that is actually calm & clear underneath.
Basically the trickery of the sea.

Badnewsonthedoorstep · 01/03/2024 23:31

Creosote tanks

Adult male kangaroos with six packs

The rubber seals around fridge doors

cerisepanther73 · 01/03/2024 23:32

Lotus pods & zorbing outdoor activity

Canoeing tried it once or twice Prince's Trust venture scheme , i ended up getting a bit too cofindent and thought i had the knack
After doing a few activity sessions to help break the ice and get out of your comfort zone,
How wrong was i,
ended up capsizing accidentally on my canoe and just going around in circles until the Princes Trust venture scheme jumped into the water to help me...

Memorable for the wrong reason..

Kayemm · 01/03/2024 23:32

Being kissed on my nose.
Nope
Never.
Absolutely not.

cerisepanther73 · 01/03/2024 23:39

Run down old abandoned buildings especially with history of being a notorious reputation for things go bump in the night spooks...

Clowns 🤡

Don't know why people think they are such good entertainment to keep smaller and bit older children amused 🤔

Punch and Judy children sea side entertainment side shows possibly

School chalk boards being scratched...

cerisepanther73 · 01/03/2024 23:40

Shityshitybangbang · 01/03/2024 23:49

Half built houses. Weird I know lol 😂

AliceAforethought · 01/03/2024 23:56

Chimpanzees, hippos, sloths and wildebeest.
They all turn my stomach.

Hairless chests (on a man!)
Beards
Popcorn 🤮

Having my head under water, or even just my face in. Sends me into a sheer blind panic.

Do not ever read a short story called ‘Guts’ by Chuck Palahniuk.

BanjoOnThePorch · 01/03/2024 15:39

YES!!! Even if it’s DP, it’s so urgghh - even worse if it’s public toilets. I’ve never known anyone else say this one!

Warm seats in general. Family okayish but cannot bear it when a, colleague says something like, "I've warned it up for you" as they get up off their chair. Bleurgh.
Also irrational fear of coming down stone steps, metal steps, open steps and stairs without bannisters. I think i am go to fall and /or catch my heels and tumble to my death. Having said that I have had quite a bad slip down stairs in the past but even before that would go a bit weird on stairs

QueenBitch666 · 02/03/2024 00:08

@TheRaptures
Yep. That's a stomach churning read 😳

QueenBitch666 · 02/03/2024 00:09

Another one for belly buttons. I have to brace myself to clean mine 😳🤢

Chorks111 · 02/03/2024 00:23

The tomato sauce from baked beans getting on my finger or hand.
