Omg! Did anyone else just catch the Tory councillor who, presumably off his own back, phoned into James o’b? Probably about 5 minutes ago.

Didn't catch it, but it is all over Twitter that he accused Dawn Butler of anti-semitism. Hopefully clip will be up soon. Another fuck up for the Tories to steer through!

IClaudine · 27/02/2024 11:37

Oh dear. Is this the same councillor that called in? Brett Rosehill?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/apr/27/dan-ozarow-tory-councillors-disciplined-campaign-jewish-labour-candidate

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2024 11:39

@IClaudine it was just gobsmacking. The phone in was essentially about the tories reluctance to call LA’s comments islamaphobic. This dude called in and very quickly he launched into a speech about antisemitism. JOB (reasonably imho) pointed out he wanted to talk about Islamophobia and the guy just started lashing out at all and sundry for antisemitism and how he was being shut down.

it was wild. I’m sure it will be held up as an example of being ‘shut down’ in the culture wars, obviously without mentioning it was an attempt to shut down a conversation about Islamophobia.

AdamRyan · 27/02/2024 11:41

🙈
That is all. Its cray cray out there. We need a GE now.

Edited

I’m not sure, I’d have to listen back. I think it’s the right kind of area because I remember thinking ‘that’s not far’ when he first came on.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 11:48

It was Brett Rosehill from Borehamwood

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2024 11:56

Thanks @DuncinToffee

Edit: hang on, so this Jewish tory councillor was involved in smearing a Jewish Labour councillor for antisemitism?

IClaudine · 27/02/2024 12:13

I think what the article says is that Brett Rosehill was involved in a smear/hate campaign against the Jewish Labour candidate. This may have encouraged others to go further and be anti-semitic against the Labour chap?

ilovesooty · 27/02/2024 12:24

Depressing listening to Nicky Campbell on Radio 5 this morning. Brenda had a go at a fellow caller and called him a benefit scrounger (he was retired from the military and worked for the NHS before retirement). She said Lee Anderson was looking out for English people, we should be able to get rid of the illegals and she was voting "for UKIP". And apparently Lee Anderson ought to be Prime Minister.

Thanks for the new thread @AdamRyan

@MrTiddlesTheCat hope tou feel better soon.

@dontcallmelen lovely flowers. You do have a nice collection of flower jugs.

They are really gunning for Rayner right now. I hope to god she didn't fiddle CGT for the sake of a few thousand quid. It will be unbearable glee from the Tories if she did.

Absolutely. And they’ll continue to gloat and ‘both sides’ it even when Starmer does the right thing (whatever that is in terms of whatever she may have done) and there are consequences for her. They don’t seem to get that it isn’t so much MPs breaking rules that upsets people, it’s them breaking rules without consequences - like for eg Javid and his tax affairs.

BIossomtoes · 27/02/2024 12:54

If the Tories do try to weaponise Rayner’s tax situation they’d be mad. Sunak’s wife wriggled out of up to £20 million in taxes. People in glass houses and all that …

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 13:15

Wasn't there a story about Hunt not paying stamp duty on 7 flats he bought?

I keep reading things to the effect of "we expect whatever left wing institution to have higher standards " so they will probably pull that out

Edited: obviously not all are actual left wing institutions, it appears to be truss-esque short hand for any public body really

Here you all are! I lost you all last night and didn't realise there was a new thread. Thanks @AdamRyan great title.

IClaudine · 27/02/2024 13:52

In case anyone wants to listen to Brett Rosehill being a nitwit. It is all very well throwing accusations around, but at least have evidence.

And Dawn Butler's response:

Cheguevarahamster · 27/02/2024 14:03

@IClaudine that call to JoB was awful this morning. Good on Dawn Butler for calling it out.

They wouldn’t see it like that. There’s this weird thing where they think it ok for Tories to do it but any impropriety at all from Labour figures is ‘hypocrisy’ and shows they are as bad. It’s like they expect and want the Tories to - maybe because they think if they support Tories they’ll somehow end up in a position to fiddle £20mil in taxes 🤷‍♀️

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2024 14:28

@cardibach it is weird that a primary line of attack is ‘they’re massive twats just like us’. It reminds me when they tried to turn Angela going to an opera as evidence of champagne socialism. All it did was show them up as believing opera wasn’t for the likes of her.

Thanks for digging that out @IClaudine! I’d forgotten to mentioned how much of a petulant brat he sounded throughout the conversation.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 14:31

Staunton is being questioned under oath in the PO inquiry

https://x.com/BestForBritain/status/1762484104539300330?s=20

Henry Staunton, the former Post Office chair that Badenoch accused of lying, seems quite sure of his recollection, under oath.

"I was accused of being a liar, until thankfully I found the note. Since then the focus has changed from 'nobody said that' to 'what did it mean?

Cheguevarahamster · 27/02/2024 15:33

So what are the odds on Anderson defecting to Reform tomorrow (in time for PMQs for ultimate effect)?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all. He’d love being their first sitting MP.

AdamRyan · 27/02/2024 15:55

Gosh. Stauntons hearing today is pretty incredible 😮
