@MrTiddlesTheCat we can only aspire to the superior health care. Take good care.

Checking in and would recommend a view of Newsnight.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/02/2024 00:46

Can someone tell me where Square One is?Confused

Meanwhile,

‘Health emergency’: 15% of UK households went hungry last month, data shows | Food poverty | The Guardian

This bit annoyed me

Although inflation had decreased in recent months, food prices remained high, the foundation said. The price of a “reasonably costed, adequately nutritious” weekly basket of food has increased by 24-26% in the past two years, it said.

Inflation means prices increase. Lower inflation still means prices increase but at a slower rate.

At the risk of getting this post deleted for TAAT are you quite mad @cakeorwine? There’s only one way that thread is ending up. 🤦‍♀️

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 08:43

It started with the very first reply Angry

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/02/2024 09:02

He’s having a car crash left right and centre today. This is very difficult to tell apart from parody on GMB.

Rosie Holt is going to need to give up her job.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 09:08

I watched Rosie Holt's 'wrong' video yesterday, she was spot on!

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 09:11

Compare that with this interview with Mohammed Amin on Gbeebies

https://x.com/implausibleblog/status/1762401214472262042?s=20

Former Chair of the Conservative Muslim Forum, Mohammed Amin:

"If by Islamophobic you mean promoting anti-Muslim hatred, anti-Muslim prejudice, anti-Muslim bigotry, then yes, Lee Anderson's comments about @SadiqKhan were Islamopbobic"

"Rishi Sunak is in a very difficult position. He's got a divided party. He's at the head of it but he's not in control of it"

"We have people like Suella Braverman wanting to fan division and inflame tensions, same as Lee Anderson"

"Sadiq Khan is about the most moderate Muslim you could ever find. When people like him are attacked for being Muslim it deters so many young people"

"The Conservative party has been going down hill ever since David Cameron left office. He worked really hard to detoxify the party. He recognised the Conservative party had a problem. He spent two days living with a Muslim family in Birmingham to show he was different. When people went out of line under his leadership, they were stamped on firmly"

"Ever since we've had a succession of party leaders who have been willing to use inflammatory language themselves, as in the case of Boris Johnson"

"The Conservative party is going through a rerun of what the Labour party went through under Jeremy Corbyn with its antisemitism problems"

"The Labour party had an antisemitism problem. The Conservative party has a Muslim problem, and it's not willing to get to grips with it" @Mohammed_Amin

"I've lived in the UK since 1952 and I've seen our society change enomously for the better. Out of all the countries in Europe we are the most successful when it comes to integration. That's why we have a Hindu Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, of Indian origin, and nobody really cares about it"

"Suella Braverman complains about our society, she is living proof of how well we have done on integration"

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/02/2024 09:11

Starmer must be looking back on that anti-semitism row with the Rochdale candidate from the other week and thinking ‘at least we didn’t handle it this badly’.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 09:19

Exactly, we are on day 5 now and it's not ending soon

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/02/2024 09:27

Literally nobody is talking about the small boats that the illegal migration minister was supposed to be doing the media rounds to talk about.

BIossomtoes · 27/02/2024 09:44

I thought small boats had dropped off the agenda.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/02/2024 09:47

I think they are back on.

Although I notice there was very little mention of the huge operation in the EU to break some of the smuggling rings last week.

IClaudine · 27/02/2024 09:50

Thanks for the new thread @AdamRyan

@MrTiddlesTheCat hope tou feel better soon.

@dontcallmelen lovely flowers. You do have a nice collection of flower jugs.

They are really gunning for Rayner right now. I hope to god she didn't fiddle CGT for the sake of a few thousand quid. It will be unbearable glee from the Tories if she did.

IClaudine · 27/02/2024 09:53

"Suella Braverman complains about our society, she is living proof of how well we have done on intergration".

Ooh, that is an excellent point which deserves deploying in the future. Thanks @DuncinToffee

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2024 10:00

I remember reading something about the UK signing a new deal with the EU to tackle boat crossings so I searched and found this from 3 days ago. Goverment stayed quiet about it

UK signs new deal with EU to tackle small boat crossings

The agreement aims to improve the sharing of information and expertise to tackle illegal migration.

If only there was some sort of package deal we could have with EU agencies. Probs would be cheaper. We could have some say with them too.

Yes. A scheme where we had closer ties with the EU would be beneficial... Perhaps we could have a referendum?

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2024 11:15

Omg! Did anyone else just catch the Tory councillor who, presumably off his own back, phoned into James o’b? Probably about 5 minutes ago.

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2024 11:16

Thanks for the thread @AdamRyan and the love for the title suggestion Blush

Hope you’re doing as well as you can @MrTiddlesTheCat.

Would it be the sort of package deal that reduced red tape for importing and exporting to our biggest trading partners because that would be useful to have too.
