Wouldn't have got purple. I only know of the answer for "loo" because of doing NYT crosswords, but makes sense because it's another non-British reference.

When I started actively looking for connections like today’s purple my success rate went up a lot.
Still doesn’t help with the North American issue though- if you don’t know, you don’t know. And there are always days when 2/4 are culturally specific….

I was trying to find a Rum connection for the blues, like a total idiot.

found that pretty difficult (had to come back to it from only getting first row in the morning). Must remember to look out for the type of thing purple was if words look odd/British.
