I think a salmon ladder is a man-made kind of stairs think that a salmon can swim upstream around a structure like a fan of weir.

I don't need another puzzle in my life!

I don’t mind the Americanisms - it’s a New York Times game, after all.
With the crackers the other day, I remember The West Wing when Danny wanted to woo CJ so he asked Josh what she liked. “She really likes goldfish.”

Danny bought her a goldfish in a bowl, CJ was confused, then burst out laughing because she likes goldfish crackers.

Oyster crackers are tiny little things in a packet that are served with clam chowder in US cafes. I used to love them and beg for my parents’s packets when on holiday as a kid.
