Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

Yes! Dry and breezy here today and even a glimpse of the sun at times.

2 loads are out. It’s making me very happy 😃

Suchardchoccy · 22/03/2024 14:41

Same here!! Sun and lots of wind!!

shinny · 22/03/2024 14:44

Unfortunately I don’t have enough washing to do a load today but I agree about how wonderful line drying is!

my mum and I talk about the washing frequently. There’s even a formula to see optimum drying conditions. I’m slightly obsessed and always check the humidity levels to see when I should put it out.

I refuse to get a tumble dryer and people are shocked. Clearly none of you washing line appreciators 😃

fleurneige · 22/03/2024 14:48

2 wash loads out flapping in the breeze and sunshine right now. Drying everything in dryer is just ecological nonsense and such a waste of money.

I do have a tumble dryer (heat pump) but I also have an old fashioned pulley airer in the utility and barely use the dryer-it’s a last resort

I disproportionally ❤️this thread!

I'm fascinated by the putting it out at night in the summer sorcery! I've never done this, is this common among my people here?

I do this too in the summer. I’ve yet to have any adverse effects from it being ‘darked on’ over the past 47 years I’ve been doing this!

just got my bed linen in from blowing on the line, that scent is my favourite smell 😊

Knickers are on the pulley in the utility 😂😂

All mine go on the line with everything else. I’m not proud..This hasn’t killed any of the neighbours yet. 😂

Don’t worry it’s nothing to do with pride 😂I just sometimes find it quicker to just chuck them up there

The rotary line went up and bedding went out. There was great drying today. I'll finish it off inside on clothes airers and it will be properly dry tomorrow.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 22/03/2024 17:56

As soon as we have a day where it doesn't rain (I'm in Scotland) mine will be out!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/03/2024 17:56

We do have a tumble dryer but it doesn’t get a lot of use, the indoor lines in the utility room do a good job. It’s towels and bedding that I struggle with at times during the winter - usually following ds having some particularly muddy rugby training and matches and I just can’t get things dry fast enough!

My undies definitely go out on the line and I certainly do hang things out overnight if it’s likely to dry / not get wet! It makes the next morning less of a rush. I have no evidence of anything getting darked on or spiders rubbing their willies on my washing!!

LilacpointMummy · 24/03/2024 21:21

Breezy and sunny here today - got 3 loads dry!

We're with British gas and get half price electric on Sundays so I try to get as much laundry done as possible while it's cheaper.

I'm lying in bed sniffing gorgeous line dried sheets will definitely sleep better 💤

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/03/2024 10:58

I put up the line last Friday and had one glorious afternoon of drying. It has been raining solidly every day since 🙄and there is more rain to come.

So it’s your fault! 😂

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/03/2024 11:26

Sorry! I jinxed it 😫 @StarlightLady
Can anyone fix the weather?!

mum2jakie · 27/03/2024 11:28

I'd love to hang the washing out but just as I was eyeing up the machine, it has started throwing it down here! Hope the Easter weekend brings some sunshine...

InMySpareTime · 27/03/2024 11:28

I got a load dry on the line yesterday but it's lashing down today.

mynewusername2023 · 27/03/2024 11:31

I adored putting clothes on the line. We do use a dehumidifier if we're drying inside and that makes a huge difference as it has a specific mode for drying clothes. The amount of water it collects is scary.

Allshallbewell2021 · 27/03/2024 14:05

Two loads today before the rain. The wind was absolutely spectacular 🤩

@mynewusername2023 what is your dehumidifier called/where did you get it from?? I could do with one of those!

I’m butting in here re the dehumidifier, we have a Meaco with a clothes setting, we got it from their own website. It’s one of the Which best buys, and as @mynewusername2023 says, the amount of water collected is phenomenal!

Suchardchoccy · 28/03/2024 09:33

@Lifebeganat50 thank you!! I'm going to look at them now!

TheBlueAndAmber · 28/03/2024 13:54

Aargh!

Woke up to glorious blue skies and it was nice and warm in the sunshine… out I went with 2 lines full of towels, cushion covers etc…. 3 hours later, I noticed it clouding over😒😒
Just had to whiz out and drag it all back in, it’s now raining from heavy skies and it’s bloody freezing!
I give up..😩😩

Suchardchoccy · 28/03/2024 16:28

@TheBlueAndAmber I know it's so stressful isn't it 😭 gives me anxiety! Constantly watching the windows checking for rain. It was the same here this morning but I checked the forecast and it said it was going to rain later so I thought nah I won't bother. On the maiden it goes

IDontWantToBeAPieIDontLikeGravy · 31/03/2024 17:25

Blue sky and breezy here today. Perfect drying day. And someone’s lit a bonfire. 🙄
