Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

@IDontWantToBeAPieIDontLikeGravy, that drives me wild. Why do people do that????

Lifebeganat50 · 01/04/2024 08:46

I’m staying with family for a few days, beautiful blue skies and have just been asked to put washing in the dryer😱they do things differently in the south 😂

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 01/04/2024 09:48

Saturday was lovely here but we're back again to rain and I can't hang anything out today. Pity!

Allshallbewell2021 · 01/04/2024 11:41

I've got a single duvet in the machine and it's sunny..... love even just the thought of getting that on the line

The sun came out and out went the washing 🙂

LadyPenelope68 · 01/04/2024 13:28

Getting in to a bed with Clean bedding that’s been
dried on the line in the sun is the nicest feeling ever. Love line dried towels as well, but hate clothes that have been dried on the line, too crispy and need too much ironing.

InMySpareTime · 01/04/2024 14:35

They're not crispy if you get them in when they're only just dry. I check every half hour or so and fold stuff off the line as it dries, and I never iron anything.

You talk about “down south” in the UK, Australia, lots more sunshine, is full of dryers. 🤔

My in-laws (Spanish and live in South of Spain) have a tumble dryer, this baffles me

what a great thread ! ‘tis still raining here in south Oxfordshire for a change

Saturday’s sunny morn I washed winter curtains (IKEA) dried outside fine,
smelt clean and fresh, gave me a big sense of achievement. Huge.

Today we have mist. Lots of mist.
Hanging out the washing does not seem likely!

StarlightLady · 02/04/2024 11:05

I’m still a 2024 washing line virgin. 😢

F 40+ would like to meet sunshine to help dry my smalls and more. Warmth essential. No rainclouds or time wasters please.

Suchardchoccy · 02/04/2024 11:05

Cloudy with sunny intervals here but not much wind. I've put a load out anyway while WFH so we will see.

sandgrown · 02/04/2024 11:07

Don’t like housework but I do love hanging out washing 😊

Allshallbewell2021 · 02/04/2024 11:58

I've braved an uncertain forecast and got one big load on the line, I feel elated for such a small act! I am watching the clouds with resentment though.

@Allshallbewell2021 I've just done the same. Hung up under a big grey cloud but I'm optimistic the sun will creep out this afternoon.

I’m not the only one scowling at the clouds, then? 😂

My DP thinks I’m loopy for being ‘washing on line’ obsessed! I don’t care, it makes the wash + dry situation much easier.

Lifebeganat50 · 05/04/2024 07:55

I was showing someone my house on google maps (with the satellite images) amd was ridiculously chuffed that the image shows a line of washing in the garden 😂😂

PEGS 😮‍💨

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 05/04/2024 08:37

All plain wooden pegs here, but I still have my favourites among them. My older pegs open wider than the new ones, so are better for thick garments.
I tried plastic pegs but they get brittle in the sun.

Taylormiffed · 05/04/2024 08:38

All Wooden pegs are my favourite. I've got some fancy Minky pegs that are hard to manipulate and grip, the IKEA pegs are pretty feeble too.

Allshallbewell2021 · 05/04/2024 08:55

Wooden ones! Respect to the purity of that.

I love these from Lakeland but I now feel I need wooden ones too for the classy purity 😅.
