Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

You can put it out overnight in winter too. Dry, cold days with a breeze will still do the job as soon as the sun is up.

But it will get darked on!!!
😁

SaveMeTheLabelOfThatPerfumeOnTheTable · 26/02/2024 08:05

Yep. Always line dry where possible.

Decafflatteplease · 26/02/2024 08:49

3 degrees here today but sunny and windy. Sheets were on the line by 7am, something about them flapping away just lifts my heart. I also put some soup in the slow cooker for later... simple pleasures!

TheBlueAndAmber · 26/02/2024 20:17

The first lot of 2024 have been dried on the line today!! Yay!!
Got lovely fresh towels and bedding all dry and my works stuff too!
Spring is - hopefully - on its way!🌼

Suchardchoccy · 26/02/2024 21:07

Omg yes!! I think it's slightly still too cold to put washing on the line at the minute but as soon as it starts warming up they will be out there!! Sick of having bloody maidens in the house. Only downside is wasps I'm not looking forward to dodging them when trying to hang the washing 😫

InMySpareTime · 26/02/2024 21:15

I got 2 loads dry on the line today, it wasn't that sunny but fairly breezy and warm.

Lifebeganat50 · 26/02/2024 21:31

@Suchardchoccy its not too cold! I’ve had mine out the last couple of days when there still been a hard frost on the ground. It didn’t get above 4° here today but I got towels dried

artant · 26/02/2024 23:46

It was a lovely drying day today but sadly I hadn’t put a load of bedding on last night. Soon though.

Suchardchoccy · 27/02/2024 10:08

@Lifebeganat50 I'll take your word for it and put my next wash on the line!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/02/2024 10:37

There was great drying here yesterday but it's not good today.

Oh the pressure!😂

Suchardchoccy · 27/02/2024 14:23

@Lifebeganat50 🤣 there is a lot of pressure now! Now I've said that it'll probably rain for the next few days

Having a garden and a washing line is a huge privilege and putting in the line to dry is one of life's joys.

Got washing out today! The laundry always smells divine

Allshallbewell2021 · 27/02/2024 15:35

Two loads out today - what a joy, smells like heaven.

Nothing out on line today… it’s gone freezing cold and we’ve had sleet on and of all day! The line dried bedding was divine last night and the towels smell lovely. The sun will come out again soon!☀️

Lifebeganat50 · 27/02/2024 17:54

2 loads out and dried today-it got sleeted on too, but fortunately early in the afternoon so it dried again😁

Is this what my life has come to?😂

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 27/02/2024 17:57

I love seeing washing blowing on the line!

We only have a rotary line in our ‘new’ house. Still need to change it to a proper line as watching the washing is more calming that way I think…

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/02/2024 18:19

I got one load out on two airers and it's partially dry. I had to do a dash outside and bring it in during a heavy shower and I'll be doing this for the foreseeable 😁The room it's in smells wonderful now.

I binned the whirly at my okd house for that very reason.
The previous owner of my current house must have been a woman after my own heart…I even have extra poles where the line will catch the low winter sun!😁

Just saying - what a stupendous drying day, windy and sunny; I'm on my third wash.

Raining here (again)…

Allshallbewell2021 · 04/03/2024 14:07

I'm sorry for gloating Muchtoomuch! I feel bad x

I have found my people. I cannot wait for the day when I can wash all the winter crap like oodies and put them on the line.
Unfortunately our neighbors have a log burner, even when it's sunny they have it on Nov-March and it invariably blows across our garden all the time so no washing outside for me yet. It pisses me off a lot.
We have a heat pump that is great but it's just not the same as fresh air dried laundry.

Daleksatemyshed · 04/03/2024 19:35

There's something very satisfying about a line of laundry blowing in the breeze, so much nicer than having a clothes airer in the house. My DM had dementia but she still massively enjoyed certain things- when I had a full clothes line on a nice drying day she always loved looking at it - there's something about simple pleasures that runs very deep

SomersetTart · 04/03/2024 20:07

Totally agree washing on a line is one of life's great pleasures. I have a lovely peg bag and have planted lavender near the line for scent. The whole thing is a joy.

The smell and feel of line dried bed linen is heaven.
