Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

I have one load out , we have dry , sunny but cold blowy weather , ideal drying day ( for late September, cannot be too fussy)
Yesterday was Build-An-Ark , I got the cats lined up 2x2 just in case Grin

Herding cats, 70?!

I've just tested the washing. It's not so bad considering how wet it got earlier. I'll put it on the drying rack later and put another load out overnight.

I have a sad feeling that Saturday might have been the last day this year I put washing out. I work full time and with both my DDs at uni now, it's too risky to put out before work at the moment!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/09/2024 22:01

I’m optimistic for tomorrow and Tuesday at least. 🤞🏻

NoWordForFluffy · 29/09/2024 22:09

We have monsoon season forecast tomorrow! Tuesday looks ok though. 🤞

mum2jakie · 29/09/2024 22:17

I'd love to get a load on the line tomorrow as a rare WFH day but weather has weather warnings for heavy rain!! Bloody typical 🙄

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/09/2024 09:55

Dry and breezy here.
One load is out already with a second going out in the next few minutes 😃

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2024 10:03

Shitting down here! 😩🤣

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/10/2024 17:59

The bedding got about 3/4 dry yesterday before some drizzle came in earlier than forecast but I have got a full load dry out there today.

maybe one or two more this week but I’m not optimistic beyond that.

Passthecake30 · 03/10/2024 21:05

after hanging out dark washing in the bright sunshine yesterday for it to be rained on within 30mins, I had a better day today and got a load of whites dry. Happy days. We still don’t have the heating on yet as it’s not that cold here (16 today) so I’m banking on some dry days to keep the washing at bay for a while! I can’t stand the smell of drying washing in the house, it makes my throat sore and my eyes itch!

mum2jakie · 05/10/2024 16:35

Today has been an absolutely perfect drying day! Even did a load of bedding which didn't finish until 3.30pm and it's dry already! Sunny and really windy - great combination!!

TheNuthatch · 10/10/2024 20:27

Two sets of bedding line dried today. It was bloomin cold though when I brought it in! Smells gorgeous.

mum2jakie · 10/10/2024 21:18

Wfh tomorrow so hoping for another dry day if the forecast is accurate! Have put a load of bedding in the wash overnight so I can get it out on the line first thing!

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 10/10/2024 21:18

Rain here all day today.
Tomorrow looks lovely. So Will make use of the line whilst gardening ready for winter

We're doing a load overnight to go out first thing too!

mizu · 10/10/2024 21:39

Same here. Looks dry so washing machine at the ready for a load to go out before I go to work tomorrow.

TheNuthatch · 11/10/2024 08:13

Well according to BBC weather app, we've got hurricane speed winds of 14K mph today. That should dry em 😂

Lifebeganat50 · 11/10/2024 18:48

It’s so satisfying at this time in the year-it smells so fresh!

Mine was out at 5:45 this morning before I went to work !

DanBo32 · 11/10/2024 19:24

I used to look at the weather and think... oh beer garden
Now I think the washing i could get dried...
It's the little things. Bedding is by far the best... climbing into bed with freshly dried linen from the line.... 👌👌

InMySpareTime · 11/10/2024 19:57

This time of year I like to see the washing gently steaming on the line as you can see the water vapour evaporate as the sun hits the cold, damp clothes.

I loved that this morning. It was still frosty when I got my first load of bedding on the line. Was steaming beautifully 😍

Lifebeganat50 · 14/10/2024 12:28

Another frosty but beautiful morning here with washing steaming!
I was very organised yesterday and got all the puffa jackets freshened up for the winter

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/10/2024 16:14

The patio finally dried by lunchtime and there’s a bit of a breeze so I’ve got some bedding and towels out. I don’t think they’ll dry fully but they will have made a start at least

sadeightiesthrowback · 14/10/2024 17:22

I hung out my towels 30 mins ago; blowing like crazy, no sun though and not warm but they still look very animated, like sails billowing lol
I love hanging the wash out, even in winter when it freezes stiff ( and my gloved fingers with it)!

My mother did the same, and dried on an indoor rack in the winter as I do when it's raining.
Have a dryer, but it's on it's last legs and I reserve it for real emergencies!

NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2024 18:11

I just got our towels in which went out last night. They're quite chilly and need to air, but are otherwise dry!
