Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

Got 4 loads dry today! Very happy 😁. The bedding smells divine. It really lifts my mood when I can peg out. We finally had a sunny, windy day. My minky pegs were brilliant as always.

DD is home from uni for the weekend so there will be another few loads to do tomorrow. She is currently on the train with a bin bag full of washing! Praying for good weather.

We got a load dry today as it was dry and windy. Load two is currently in the machine to go out overnight. Then there will be more tomorrow. Never ending!

Overnight!!! You've blown my mind 😂

Does it actually dry? I've done it in the summer but never at this time of year. Unless you live somewhere warmer than I do!

StarlightLady · 27/09/2024 20:27

I put mine out for final rinse today. Then attached a rope to the rotary line, tied the other end round my waist and ran round the garden to spin it 😀.

Not warmer. Coastal. The breeze does dry it overnight. We've got things bone dry overnight in midwinter when it's been windy enough!

It might need a few hours after sunrise, but it'll be dry soon enough!

Yup

One of life's wins

Rain today. But tomorrow is 12 degrees and sunny. I have a load in basket ready and 1 in machine. That's nearly finished to go out in the morning.

ImInACage · 27/09/2024 20:59

Yes! I absolutely love hanging the washing out, then seeing the whites in the breeze and the gorgeous smell when they're dry. I have very strong memories of seeing lines of white nappies drying when my sister was a baby. I think it brings back nice feelings of feeling safe and looked after. Plus, the act of hanging them is quite peaceful really, like a sort of focused meditation.

It's just the best thing and sleepng on line dried pillow cases give one the most restful sleep.

Oh yes!! Love the fresh smell of line-dried pillowcases too!

Another good drying day here!

Dd got home late and left her bin bag of dirties in the utility. I know I should let her do her washing but it was making me twitch 😂. She has put two week's worth of clothes (including freshers week clothes) and bedding in the bag with wet towels. The smell 🤢. I don't usually use scent beads but today they are a must! I've got two loads pegged out so far. Hoping the breeze picks up. Hope you all get a good drying day too.

Passthecake30 · 28/09/2024 09:37

3 loads pegged out for me, fingers crossed it gets most of the wetness out! My fingers were sooooo cold pegging it out though!

Passthecake30 · 28/09/2024 09:38

@TheNuthatch twitch away, I’d definately do that!

Flamerouge · 28/09/2024 09:41

You are my people! Wash is on, looking forward to hanging it out later. It's the little things!

I have Raynauds and pegging the washing out often leaves me without circulation in my fingers! 😬

We have our overnight load out, which got damp with not-forecast rain, and another to go out. The weather doesn't seem to be behaving as forecast, annoyingly. Hopefully it can all dry, however.

Yes my fingers were frozen too. I could see steam rising off the laundry when the sun hit it :-)

I've been waiting for your overnight drying report fluffy 😂.
Hope the weather improves for you.

It's about 2/3 dry, so could be worse! 🤣

mum2jakie · 28/09/2024 10:23

Good job this thread reminded me to get my washing out while I have the chance!!

Lifebeganat50 · 28/09/2024 13:13

@NoWordForFluffy that must be really difficult with Raynaud’s…it won’t be far from now that I put the underwear and socks on the pulley to dry for this very reason, amd I don’t have Raynaud’s!

artant · 28/09/2024 13:46

Good drying day here but I didn’t get round to putting a wash on. Stupid, especially given the forecast for the coming days.

Still time to get a quick wash on and out surely? Sun is back out here (Midlands) and third load is in the machine!!

NoWordForFluffy · 28/09/2024 14:13

Our washing has had a soaking. Forecast was totally wrong! 😩 Blazing sunshine now, so 🤞 it now dries!

TheNuthatch · 28/09/2024 16:32

I've just had to run out and bring all mine in. It's tipping down! BBC weather app was totally wrong.
4 X 12kg loads all now on airers all over the bloomin house!

NoWordForFluffy · 28/09/2024 16:40

I find the BBC app the least reliable, followed by Met Office. Weather Radar is best (but was still wrong today, which has been most April shower-like!).
