Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

@artant I was just wondering if you find the Dreamland throws wash well? I've had one for a couple of years and the pile is long and fluffy but I've been cautious about washing it in case the pile isn't the same afterwards.

Passthecake30 · 22/09/2024 07:54

I did another 3 loads yesterday, it was beautiful here (24c). Pissing down here now, good weather to iron the huge stack of washing caused by my washing marathon this week!

mum2jakie · 22/09/2024 09:59

I managed three loads yesterday too. Last lot were still slightly damp when I brought them in as the thunder started!!

artant · 23/09/2024 14:07

Rainy here yesterday but I got the washing pretty much dry overnight with the dehumidifier. It filled up and switched itself off though so it’s having a bit of extra time today.

@artant is it safe to leave dehumidifier overnight? I only have mine on if I'm in the house and awake but I could do with knowing if they are "safe" to leave on as then I could leave it running all the time (old damp house)

Lifebeganat50 · 23/09/2024 18:13

Mine was still pretty damp when it came in, but still dryer than it went out so I’m taking that as a win as autumn has well and truly set in now. It’s now up on the pulley in the utility with the dehumidifier on.

@Decafflatteplease I do leave mine on during the night…as to whether I should….the house was rewired 2 years ago, and the dehumidifier is a decent make, so I’m good with that!

Passthecake30 · 24/09/2024 11:09

My washing is on the line today given that it’s the only dry day for a while and I don’t have a dehumidifier, heated airer or the heating on. Fingers x the humidity drops and it actually comes in drier than it’s gone out!🙄

Same here. If you're not already aware, the met office weather also lists the humidity for each hour so I tend to keep an eye on that too!

artant · 24/09/2024 14:34

@christmascactus22 the Dreamland throw I have washes well but it’s not one of the furry ones, it’s one like this: www.dreamlanduk.co.uk/products/deluxe-velvet-herringbone-emerald-green

artant · 24/09/2024 14:39

@Decafflatteplease I regularly leave my dehumidifier on overnight but then I also often run the washing machine at night. No whether it’s a terrible idea but I don’t see why a dehumidifier should be a particular risk. I make sure there’s nothing hanging over it and it switches itself off if the water tank fills up.

artant · 24/09/2024 14:42

Thinking about it, I’m pretty sure my dehumidifier has a sleep mode (a bit quieter and with its lights off) so it’s clearly designed to run through the night.

Thanks, I saw that, any idea what humidity level I’m looking for to dry washing? Good news that mines almost dry, will stack it on the hot water tank overnight and that’ll sort it. I’m realise I’m quite pathetic to be this happy over laundry ☺️

Our towels dried on the line overnight! I was amazed.

Ooh, in not sure on the perfect humidity level, but I always think less than 60% is the green light for washing to be hung out ime! Anything over this results in damp washing which is tres disappointing. I always bring it in before five at this time of year if I can, as the humidity levels really rise after that nd your lovely dry washing gets damp after that time... I realise I am a bit obsessive, but looks like I'm in good company on this thread !

Ha ha you are in excellent company! I tend to check both acu weather and bbc weather before I put a wash on, and I’ll add humidity tracking to the list now! I also get it in at 5ish, moving to 4ish later in the year. My washing is almost dry, aside from jogger waist bands and hoods on hoodies, not bad. Not as satisfying as last week but we can’t have it all!

😂 what a merry bunch we are. Yes, good humidity levels are a must. Lovely to chat about the absolute joy of hanging washing on the line, in the real world people would think me rather bonkers... Got a full white wash completed today and other than the waistband on some thick trousers, the rest is beautifully dried, folded and put away (i don't share a similar pleasure in ironing ho hum) Wins all around I'd say, well done us!

Our humidity levels are rarely that low. We get washing dry with 80% humidity here.

TheNuthatch · 25/09/2024 20:39

It's been cold and damp here for days so no pegging out for me :(
I'm annoyed that I had to use the tumble dryer a bit today as I ran out of drying space.

I dried a super king duvet cover on the bannister today, using beach towel clips at pegs 😂. They worked brilliantly!
Everything else is on the heated airer and the dehumidifier is on pretty much non stop. I do use mine at night regularly for the pp who asked. It does have a night button so I'm sure it's safe.

Lifebeganat50 · 26/09/2024 08:55

It’s a cracking drying day today so all the beds are on the line already…it may all end up in the North Sea with the strength of the wind🤣

I'm very jealous. I've got grey, damp and still again.
I think I need to move house!

Lifebeganat50 · 26/09/2024 11:58

@TheNuthatch it was dry and back in by 10:30!!!

artant · 26/09/2024 14:57

Rainy here today. Definitely not a good drying day.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/09/2024 19:17

Very wet here today. Think it's meant to improve tomorrow, thankfully. Lots of washing to hang out!

mum2jakie · 27/09/2024 17:56

Same here. Have a wash on the go, with high hopes for sunny weather tomorrow!

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2024 18:07

We got a load dry today as it was dry and windy. Load two is currently in the machine to go out overnight. Then there will be more tomorrow. Never ending!
