Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

Yes. It means my house doesn't get damp and I don't have to worry about mould growing. I do have dehumidifiers, but they only work to an extent.

declutteringonedayatatime · 14/09/2024 21:58

I would have put a wash out.. but got a Rush ticket through TodayTix and watched Rocky Horror instead 🤣.

I will get a load out tomorrow instead. 🤞 for a repeat of today's optimum drying conditions.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2024 22:05

We're forecast rain all day tomorrow!

Lifebeganat50 · 18/09/2024 20:29

We’re having a week of decent weather just now so if it isn’t nailed down it’s being washed 🤣 Summer duvets from the spare beds washed and dried today

mum2jakie · 18/09/2024 22:08

Yes! I'm washing a load in the evenings and leaving it out overnight and following day to make the most of the September sunshine!

NeedWineNow · 18/09/2024 22:45

I love getting washing out on the line. I'm washing everything I can this week as the weather is set fair until the weekend. There's absolutely nothing like the smell of line dried washing. Heaven.

artant · 18/09/2024 23:00

I got bedding washed today. Still have laundry waiting though and this week feels like it may be a final end of summer opportunity to get stuff properly dry outside.

Passthecake30 · 19/09/2024 06:36

I’ve found my people. I love getting washing out on the line, hate it hanging round the house for days! This week I’ve managed to find 2 loads a day, summer duvets, sofa pillow cushion covers, anything half clean/ half dirty, nothing missed!

Keroppi · 19/09/2024 08:06

I put a small load out on the line last night and it's still hanging now! Forecast 25 😳 but feels like temp is 21. Wow!
Stripping the beds later and will have those all out too, along with the sofa pillows, as it's my day off.

artant · 19/09/2024 16:46

Heated throw and some towels on the line today here. More towels and a clothes wash planned for tomorrow. May try to squeeze in a load of bedding as well if there’s time. Saturday the rain comes.

murasaki · 19/09/2024 16:51

Heated throws are ok in the machine if you take the controller off, yes? We just bought one for recently widowed PiL as he's wary about turning the heating on for costs , and it said it was, just want to reassure him.

artant · 19/09/2024 17:32

Yes, the heated throw goes in the machine on a wool cycle with a big towel in front so it doesn’t rub against the rubber during the spin. Having cut the label off, I had to look the instructions up on the Dreamland website. This is the second time I’ve washed it as it lives on my elderly mother’s bedroom chair and there have been incidents.

PerkingFaintly · 19/09/2024 20:44

Yes, I think last time I washed a heatpad in the machine it suggested putting it inside a pillowcase for extra protection.

If you were worried about a heated throw, a duvet cover might be quite protective, if you weren't confident about a towel staying in place (per @artant 's suggestion).

Thanks both, I'll let him know.

artant · 19/09/2024 23:01

A duvet cover sounds like a very good idea.

artant · 19/09/2024 23:03

I think the main thing though is using the wool cycle and keeping the spin speed down (that said, my machine spins at 1200 on the wool cycle and I left it at that rather than reducing it).

murasaki · 19/09/2024 23:12

Thanks. He's got into a thing about bills, even though he can afford it, so doesn't turn the oven on, uses the air fryer etc, so we went for heat the man not the room. I'll pass the feedback on re washing, much appreciated.

ScottBakula · 20/09/2024 08:45

I had no idea you could wash heated blankets/ throws . I have had mine for a few years and it's never been washed ! 😳. I think I got it from amazon so tracking down the instructions will be impossible

PerkingFaintly · 20/09/2024 08:58

OK, I've just dug out the instructions for two of my heatpads.

One says "Do Not Wash". That's a footwarmer shaped like a big double boot, and has a removable, washable liner.

On says "Wash at a maximum temperature of 30º C, very gentle wash."

Both say:
-Do not tumble dry
-Do not dryclean
-Do not bleach
-Do not iron

TheNuthatch · 20/09/2024 09:01

What a wonderful thread! I have found my people 😁
I can't sleep on sheets or wear clothes that have been tumble dried. I only tumble towels and socks in the winter.
I got 4 sets of bedding dried yesterday which was joyous! My Gran would have been smiling down at me.
I'm running out of things to wash before the weather turns, but today will be dog wash day. All the beds, blankets and toys, then I'll be cleaning the washing machine.
I noticed my big rotary line wasn't getting much sun yesterday, so today I'll be activating my small winter line, which is just a small retractable one that goes over my patio.

PerkingFaintly · 20/09/2024 09:03

Oh and the washable one says: "Please note that frequent washing of the heat pad has a negative effect on the product. The heat pad should therefore be washed in a washing machine a maximum of 10 times during its life."

I'm learning something here, as I hadn't twigged that bit before!

It also recommends lying flat on a clothes horse to dry, and cautions against using pegs in case they damage the product.

This is a small heatpad about 18 inches max dimension, not a whole big throw, which of course might have different instructions.

Do you know the brand? Maybe one of us has the same one. Mine came from amazon too.

I've washed it a few times and it's fine. Obviously detach the cable first. I just pop mine inside an old single duvet cover and put it on a wool wash with full spin. I dont use fabric softener, just a little powder. My dogs always join my on the heated throw so it definitely needs washing now and again.

Edited

Ahhh I’ve found my fellow “winter line” person😂

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2024 09:29

We're north-facing, so winter sun isn't a thing for us. 😩 However, we're also coastal, so breezy, which makes up for it! We've dried washing overnight in winter on clear but windy nights. It's ace. We've also frozen it solid to the line when not so breezy...freeze drying is a thing! 🤣

artant · 20/09/2024 14:14

My heated throws are both from Dreamland who provide washing instructions on their website.

For things bought from Amazon, you can probably find the brand if you search for the order in your Amazon account.
