Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

On holiday just now and have had to accept that the adult children will use the dryer while I’m away 😂😂

However I will very much enjoy wearing the 20+ year old white linen skirt which line drying bleached a 20 year old unidentified stain out of before I came!!😂

I’m now accepting that I’m a lone voice on this thread 😂

This morning the sun hasn’t risen high enough over the house so I’ve had to activate the winter line setting…I feel the previous owner of my house was a woman after my own heart 🤣

I had washing on the line on Tuesday, I have a south facing garden so any dry day is fair game all year.

artant · 12/09/2024 17:08

I had to accept that I stood no chance of getting the washing dry outside the other day. Got it dry overnight on the clothes horse with the help of my trusty dehumidifier. Anything that could go on a hanger was dried hanging in a doorway so the clothes horse was only really needed for undies and socks. Not as good as line drying but pretty speedy thanks to the dehumidifier. Mostly it just felt like a sign that (our more or less non-existent) summer is over.

This summer has been absolutely shit. I'm ever the optimist and have got a load out now on my return home from work. It's not going to dry properly but hopefully will take the edge of and give it a bit of line freshness from the outdoors!

Clearinguptheclutter · 12/09/2024 19:01

Yes. But then I go bloody mad when there is no rain in the forecast and yet your lovely dry washing gets bucketed on. As happened today.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2024 00:00

We're still getting stuff dried outside if it's breezy enough (as we're coastal, we have good breezes in the main!). It's like military precision planning getting it out and in again between the rain right now though!

@Lifebeganat50 I'm loving the sound of activating the winter washing line...tell us more!

Im being rather ambitious today getting washing on the line, its 12-14 degrees but sunny but not windy so who knows! It's only sheets and towels though so can go straight in the tumble dryer when I get home if needed, at least they will get started off outside. All our bedding is 100% cotton so takes an age to dry!

It's meant to be nice tomorrow aswell so I might get our (wool) duvet on the line they are meant to be aired every so often.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/09/2024 10:53

2 loads out today and another in the washing machine.

i only have one washing line, a rotary one. It’s in the part of the garden that gets the most sun. I’d love to hear more about the winter line setting too!

mum2jakie · 13/09/2024 11:53

Sun is out today and am considering risking a small load although it is very very cold out there!

SpiderGwen · 13/09/2024 11:55

The main washing line is in the garden but there’s an auxiliary washing line under cover for rainy day emergencies. I’ve used that more than I like.

Keroppi · 13/09/2024 12:10

Sun's out, about 15-17c, clothes are out! Most are on the clothes horse tbf

Lifebeganat50 · 13/09/2024 12:15

@Decafflatteplease the winter setting is a couple of greenie poles in part of the garden the sun still hits when it’s lower!

Tallisker · 13/09/2024 12:55

Found my tribe 🥰

mizu · 13/09/2024 15:21

Threw a whole load on the line before work this morning 😎

murasaki · 13/09/2024 15:25

Mine is out and billowing in the wind. The cat is sat in the sunshine by the line. Its lovely if chilly.

Poggishairtufts · 13/09/2024 15:37

Got a tomato stain out of a white Tshirt the other day after hanging it on the line - dr benkman or whatever his name is and vanish didn't help at all. Might be a highlight of my week.
I love doing laundry and love a breezy sunny day

Namechangeforthis88 · 13/09/2024 15:38

3 loads today in Edinburgh. What a start to the long weekend here! I was pure raging last week, the forecast was such that I had a load out before going to work and another load in the machine on a timer, to put out when I got back at lunchtime. Forecast was way out, the mist never lifted all day. So two loads of soggy stuff to sort out by other means. Making up for it today.

It's the little wins that please so much!

Decafflatteplease · 13/09/2024 16:27

We've actually recently upgraded to 3 washing lines 😂 to be fair there's 6 of us so plenty of washing!

stopringingme · 13/09/2024 17:12

Had a full load out, and it was just a short while off being dry when some arse decided to light a bonfire at lunchtime - not impressed.

mum2jakie · 14/09/2024 15:53

OMG today has been a beautiful day for drying washing!! Mild, sunny and a powerful breeze. Got through two loads so on top of the bedding for once!

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2024 16:14

We're on 3 loads today!

artant · 14/09/2024 19:14

You’re putting me to shame. I have a mountain of bedding waiting to be washed but spent the afternoon lounging on the sofa looking out at the sunshine and idly thinking “today would have been a good drying day”. Oh well…

BigBundleOfFluff · 14/09/2024 20:11

Today was a perfect day for line drying. In Scotland, so it was quite breezy - a 3-pegger.
3 loads of bedding, stripped, washed, dried and put back on beds.

Most satisfactory!
