Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

… and no tissues sneaked in? They do it by themselves 😀!

Don't they just!

It's crying out for more verses, if anyone fancies adding...

Lifebeganat50 · 08/04/2024 11:48

@PerkingFaintly bravo!😂

Beautiful day here, bedlinen on the line by 8 and already dry-there is hope!

I have a day off work today, having caught up with everything yesterday, l think l’m going to spend the day naked so l don’t create any more washing 😀.

🤣🤣 I try and find something I can wear that won’t add to the washing basket after I’ve caught up with it all… have been known to wear hideous stuff just to save the wash, then chuck it for
rags!!🤣
Often wonder wether to get some of those paper boiler suits…🤔

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 08/04/2024 15:03

I had a colleague once who matched the colour of her plastic pegs with the colour of the clothing item being hung up (now that’s dedication!). She was complaining about not being able to find black pegs anywhere. I found her some - you would have thought I’d brought her the 8th wonder of the world!

Allshallbewell2021 · 08/04/2024 16:05

I don't understand people who ckear all their laundry. I always have stuff that doesn't have a home hanging around the laundry pile. I'm such a sinner

Warning ‼️

With all this washing talk. Beware the one legged woman who steals odd socks and single hold ups from your washing. She makes them vanish into hyperspace. Then, when you throw the other one away she makes the other one return. It’s true 😂.

Auburngal · 08/04/2024 16:09

I don't hang washing on the line - don't have any outside space as it is but in the high pollen count days, the pollen clings onto the washing. Affecting hay fever and asthma

LilacpointMummy · 08/04/2024 16:24

Does anyone else have quite strict rules about the optimal way to hang out washing?

I call it 'maximising drying potential', which my family tease me about - but if you're going to put in the effort, make sure the washing has the best chance of drying.

Am I completely nuts or does anyone else get this???

Suchardchoccy · 08/04/2024 16:40

It's forecasted rain all day but hasn't rained at all 😡 while I'm WFH I've just put everything on the radiators and the maidens. Plus I found a tissue in one of DH's joggers, so I had to shake everything and hoover up too

I stick to the rule I learnt in Brownies in the 1970s - if you wear it on the top hang it from the bottom and if you wear it on the bottom hang it from the top - seems to work!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 08/04/2024 18:09

Wise advice from Brownies! That's what I do.
I hang things out the right way.
DH hangs things out arseways.

Oh god you lot absolutely are my tribe😍😂

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top

And on the rare occasion dh does hang it out, I have to try not to look at it because it’s just WRONG….dh only hangs washing out rarely not because he sees it as my job or a woman job, but purely because he knows I’m such a control freak about it 🤣

Allshallbewell2021 · 08/04/2024 20:04

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top

This is sacrosanct!

My laundry hanging technique is admittedly fairly mental.
Pants must hang with the crotch facing away from the house, so any residual "pantness" blows away from the house.
Socks are paired in order of length on the line and any that have become single must be hung elsewhere so the decent socks don't start hankering for the single life. The unpaired sock must be reunited with its partner ASAP, ideally the same day.
Tops hang by the waist until almost dry, then by the shoulders for the last half hour.

Allshallbewell2021 · 08/04/2024 20:41

DH (since lockdown and more frequent homeworking) now, disappointingly for me, considers hanging washing out to be one of his preferred chores.

This creates palpable tension and competition in the marriage; I sometimes call out if I spy him sneaking out with a basket "thems me delicates let me hang them out!" In my best "pick your battles comrade" voice. And he reluctant leaves them.

I also have to RE-hang when he hangs trousers from the bottom with a great peg in the middle of the trousers' ends. And he will peg shirts in the middle of the shoulder - It's just monstrous ignorance, it's impossible to let go. He also needlessly doubles up the sheets and duvet covers. 🤦‍♀️. No they must hang as low as they can to maximize single layering.

Don't mess with my rules.

My mum always hung T shirts from the bottom in such a way that they flared out. The mental scars from those misshapen 1970s T shirts means I tend to put tops on hangers.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/04/2024 22:31

Today was disappointing.

I had so much laundry to get through but we had heavy showers on and off.

5 loads done. 1 load of gym stuff has dried inside, 2 more are now hanging in the utility room and I had to resort to the tumble drier for the bedding, towels and bathroom mats. I’ve caught up but not in a very satisfying way.

😂😂😂

Today was a “hang it on the pulley and switch on the dehumidifier” kind of a day 🙄

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 09/04/2024 21:19

There was great drying today! Hurrah!
It is going to rain again tomorrow. Boo!

Flippin heck! 2 good drying days in a row here=if it isn’t nailed down it’s been washed 😂I am now officially my mother 😂😂

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2024 07:32

We've had intermittent rain the last few days. We have managed to get washing dry, but the 'Argghh, it's raining' dash happened at 5pm yesterday! 🏃🏻‍♀️🤣

We apparently have dry and windy weather today, so currently have a load on and we'll do another after.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/04/2024 07:49

I haven't managed to hang out anything since last Tuesday. The weather continues to be woeful here. We might have a settled stretch soon as there is high pressure due to come from the Azores 🤞
