Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

Our kitten widdled on DD's duvet last night, so Kathleen was very useful today getting the duvet and cover dry.

I did use at least 10 pegs on the duvet and it still blew off once!

This is a lovely thread about appreciating the pleasures of hanging washing out😂

We’ve touched on pegs, but what about your rope/line?😂

Mine is actual nylon rope, so thicker than the stuff you buy in shops, so I have no peg slippage…my mum bought I don’t know how much in a ship’s chandler’s years ago, and without a word of a lie, no matter how long I live, I will NEVER need to buy washing line -I have at least another 2 garden’s worth in the garage, and I’ll get at least 10 years out of the length I’m using just now 😂 Edited

No one else cares do they?😂

I have a retractable line, it's a string core with plastic coating.

We have one of those plus the usual washing line.

A retractable line is always useful.

I care! I just have one fixed line and am happy to have the small garden I have. To have a lifetime's worth of washing line is magnificent and it is the kind of thing I love to read on this thread.

I have white sheets on the line now in the wind and sun and I said to ds "look isn't that beautiful!" And he said "yes mum" in a kind of compassionate way".

The should be a word for what this beauty is. There probably is in another language.

DH is just putting our third load out today! We still have 30-40mph winds, so it's a cracking drying day. ☺️

I'm wondering if I can scrape a 4th load together. 🤔🤣

Taylormiffed · 07/04/2024 14:36

My washing machine is begging for mercy. I'm playing catch up and determined to clear almost everything in the laundry basket.

Hapagirl48 · 07/04/2024 15:46

I've put all the jeans out. It's so windy they have 4 pegs each but with the sun and the rain, they should be dry in no time. I looked totally windswept myself when I came back in.

I did the same but with wooden pegs. I went out to find half of them had snapped 🤣. I have some sturdier plastic ones now.

Just bringing in 2 bone dry duvet covers, 3 bath towels, pillow cases, 4 bras and loads of knickers. Washing bin currently empty! Til tonight!

In this house that's called "winning at washing".
Bonus points if you can get everything put away before the laundry basket gets refilled.

That’s not winning! Winning? I won 😀!

StarlightLady · 07/04/2024 18:12

Sorry, grammatically incorrect because l became so excited. I have won!

😂😂

I was staying with family last week…a 4 adult household, and the washing done in their house made me realise just how much washing I do 😳
I’ve justified it to myself with my ds having a manual job and being a gym fanatic which massively adds to it, but I also figured there are far worse ways to get my kicks 😂

I probably wash more often than many too.

But look on the bright side, washing doesn’t give you a headache, can’t make you pregnant and doesn’t make you fart! It also helps to ensure you smell nice.

Lifebeganat50 · 07/04/2024 18:21

@StarlightLady love that!😂

LilacpointMummy · 07/04/2024 23:25

Kathleen dried 3 loads of washing for me today 😁

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 08/04/2024 07:45

Yesterday was a gorgeous day post Kathleen and I also got three loads done. We're back to rain again today so indoor drying today.

Taylormiffed · 08/04/2024 08:58

I think it's just one load going out today, showers are forecast from mid afternoon. That's me pretty much caught up though.

StarlightLady · 08/04/2024 09:17

I have a day off work today, having caught up with everything yesterday, l think l’m going to spend the day naked so l don’t create any more washing 😀.

Allshallbewell2021 · 08/04/2024 09:26

Starlight** 😂

Very grey here. I've just put on a small wash of delicates (in my new Lakeland plastics protective whatever they're called) as it does not look like a drying day today 😒

NoWordForFluffy · 08/04/2024 09:38

It's hideous here today. We're due 50mph winds with rain up until late afternoon tomorrow as well. But dry after that, so we shall get washing on in good time to put out once the monsoon has passed over! 😬🤣

<clears throat>

🎶
Mine eyes have seen the bottom of the laundry bin at last.
I have trampled out the duvets,* and the sheets are at full mast;
The trousers are non-iron and the shirts are colourfast;
The laundry is all done.

Glory, glory hallelujah.
Glory, glory hallelujah.
Glory, glory hallelujah.
The laundry is all done.

I’ve treble-pegged the towels lest the bathsheets should take flight;
I have fished out all the hankies and they’re dancing in the light;
I've paired the socks and wristies, and the tights are rolled up tight;
The laundry all is done.

Glory, glory hallelujah.
GLOry, glory hallelujah. <come in the descants>
Glory, glory hallelujah.
The laundry is all done.
🎶

[*Not really. No duvets were trampled in the making of this song. I’m not daft enough to do that any more...]

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 08/04/2024 10:11

Take a bow @PerkingFaintly 👏
Praise be, that's a wonderful anthem for laundry day 😄

StarlightLady · 08/04/2024 10:12

… and no tissues sneaked in? They do it by themselves 😀!
