Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

You lot are on a go slow, we've got three loads out already Grin (poorly daughter so ended up putting on a load in the early hours)

StarlightLady · 06/04/2024 11:07

Full line here. And next door, but l was first 😀.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 06/04/2024 11:19

Mine are out now! I could sit and watch them blowing all day Blush

As long as they don’t blow next door! I’ve been there (not today thankfully), got the tee shirt, or rather next door got the teeshirt together with several pairs of my knickers 😳. It’s a good job we get on!

mizu · 06/04/2024 12:42

Good lord, Kathleen is really getting wild. Worried it's all going to blow away!

Lifebeganat50 · 06/04/2024 12:57

This is a lovely thread about appreciating the pleasures of hanging washing out😂

We’ve touched on pegs, but what about your rope/line?😂

Mine is actual nylon rope, so thicker than the stuff you buy in shops, so I have no peg slippage…my mum bought I don’t know how much in a ship’s chandler’s years ago, and without a word of a lie, no matter how long I live, I will NEVER need to buy washing line -I have at least another 2 garden’s worth in the garage, and I’ll get at least 10 years out of the length I’m using just now 😂 Edited

Allshallbewell2021 · 06/04/2024 14:03

We had visitors all morning so I've got nothing even washed for Kathleen - I'm gutted.

Our line is just from Homebase - not classy 🤦‍♀️.

Those unique metal French pegs Keroppi - but what about in the sun? Do they get hot in the sun?

I dried three loads yesterday and the towels today, I am a very happy bunny!
I even did all the ironing this morning, first thing, so feeling very smug 😍

Jimmychoo69 · 06/04/2024 14:54

I have done 4 loads today 😁. As soon as I get it all hung out securely it is just about ready to bring in again. I have had to rescue 2 sheets though, it is very wild outside.
My mum and I were only chatting recently how one of life’s pleasures is watching lines of washing blowing on the line. I must be getting old 🤣.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 06/04/2024 15:10

Regarding peg bags, I've had loads over the years and even made a lovely one out of one of DDs old Cath Kidston baby Vests. I'm dyspraxic though and always get myself in a pickle with seemingly not enough hands.

This is how I do things now. (Attach exactly the right amount of pegs to the bottom of my top) It's genius, well it works for me anyway.

The shoulder strap makes it work for me-wore it as a cross body today 😎

Suchardchoccy · 06/04/2024 16:01

I've got all the bedding out today but one of the sheets blew off the line onto the grass so I hope it's okay. Didn't take long to dry it all 😂

One of my sheets ended up in the hedge Grin but at least it was dry!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 06/04/2024 16:58

I brought my bedding in and decided to risk a line of t shirts and tea towels. Popped out 15 mins later to check none had blown away and they were all dry and warm

Soo much satisfaction in one day!

PerkingFaintly · 06/04/2024 17:05

I've loved my crossbody peg bag for years, but have recently been impressed by my neighbour's technique.

She dispenses with the whole "bag" concept and keeps the pegs clipped on a strap – like a bandolier!Shock

I just said to DH that the fleece blankets we put on our sofas as dog protection were not only dry, but warm too.

In the high winds, we don't prop the washing up high, as it blows enough without being raised up. Seems to keep it a bit safer!

artant · 06/04/2024 19:25

First outside drying of the year for me today. Got a load of bedding dry this afternoon. Clothes stayed indoors on the clothes horse though as if I’d tried to take a laundry basket of clothes out I’m pretty sure Kathleen would have distributed our undies throughout the neighbourhood while I was still grappling with pegging the first item to the line.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 06/04/2024 19:52

There is no bliss like lying in a freshly line dried bed listening to the hurricane blowing outside. This was worth nearly getting blown over the hedge for.

Allshallbewell2021 · 06/04/2024 20:11

Love all the Love for Kathleen on this thread

Perking - a peg strap - you've blown my mind; it sounds quite rude as well.

She is a bandolero linelaundrywoman

Just seeing off the back of Kathleen there. She was very full of herself altogether.
As the winds eased up a bit, I put the clothes horses outside and got clothes partially dried, so that's not too bad.

MrsMitford3 · 06/04/2024 20:38

I bet Kathleen is on MN-can you imagine her point of view on this 😂

And peg strap does sound a bit saucy for this wholesome lovely thread

CurlyWurly1991 · 06/04/2024 20:42

I’ve found my people. I love drying on the line and watching it. My family laugh at me about this. There’s nothing better than freshly dried sheets on the line. Today was very windy + warm = perfect line drying weather!

Allshallbewell2021 · 06/04/2024 21:15

Sorry mrsmitford I have let down the wholesome spirit of this thread by typing pegstrap.

I want to be forgiven by the line drying angels

I think on balance the existence of this thread buys you forgiveness!!

Peg strap sounds potentially saucy indeed.

It brings to mind something like this for me.
