Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

Well, the week started brilliantly with washing out on Monday on a beautiful sunny day and then deteriorated into drizzle and then heavier rain as it went on. Now we are expecting Storm Kathleen to blow in tomorrow. It's very windy at the moment. Maybe I'll chance putting out a few bits...Great drying if it doesn't blow away.

MrsMitford3 · 05/04/2024 09:02

So funny-DS was home recently (in his late ish 20's owns a flat with GF and very house proud/ interested) completely unlike his brother

He remarked on loving the vibe/asthetic of my clothes peg bag and wooden pegs. I put some in his Christmas stocking!!

My washing line and pegging out clothes does fill me with such a happy feeling. it's just so nice to smell everything and the sun really brightens whites.

A quiet joy...

Tomorrow is forecast to be full sun, 21c and gusty winds so I'm rubbing my hands together in glee looking forward to how many loads I can get washed and dried.

All plain wooden pegs here, but I still have my favourites among them. My older pegs open wider than the new ones, so are better for thick garments.
I tried plastic pegs but they get brittle in the sun.

That explains why my plastic pegs last a lifetime. 😀

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2024 10:03

I'm in Manchester so it's not some sun-baked paradise. Plastic pegs lasted barely 3-4 years, and I have wooden pegs that are over 20 years old so far.

StarlightLady · 05/04/2024 10:17

I find wooden pegs mark and stain clothes.

TheBlueAndAmber · 05/04/2024 11:49

@Allshallbewell2021

Lakeland pegs are the best!! Some of mine are years old (from when Ddog was a puppy and chewed them, she’s 8 now)
I buy them online as I’m ages away from a Lakeland store sadly. Black skies here again today… and we are due Storm Kath over the weekend😪

NastyLittleNoseWrinkle · 05/04/2024 13:36

Wooden dollies here for most things & plastic dollies for heavier items and DC who kept snapping the wooden ones hanging their stuff out

I had pincher ones previously and could no longer be arsed hunting for the teeny metal springs in the grass when they inevitably broke.

(Not lakeland ones though, they look more robust)

I also find dollies are great for showery days as they are as quick and seamless (to lift off) as the string of curse words I’m muttering as I zip up the line to get the clothes in 😂

Suchardchoccy · 05/04/2024 13:47

Sun has been out all morning and 10% all day, no rain. As soon as I risk it and peg some stuff out it starts raining!! Now I've brought it in again, it's stopped 😭

Lifebeganat50 · 05/04/2024 13:48

I use big wooden dolly pegs which I inherited from my gran when she moved from a house to a flat in ….1996 …. they were far from new then!!!

@Allshallbewell2021 I've just had to do it again just now!! Honestly the weather is completely mental

Allshallbewell2021 · 05/04/2024 16:59

I have one load out. Is it too late to put out another at 4:58?

It's windy.

I have profound regret that I was too busy this am to take advantage of about 5 hours of sun n'wind 💔💔

@Allshallbewell2021 I can’t resist showing my bag. Shoulder strap and hook- I am ridiculously pleased with it

MrsMitford3 · 05/04/2024 17:20

Oh and the pic

Old school wooden pegs here (the type with metal springs, like the ones in that picture). I have my favourites though and they’re the oldest ones (older than me and I’m over 60!). The newer versions are mostly a bit bigger and they’re not as smooth (mainly because they haven’t had the decades of use, really).

I’ve also got some clip things that hook tightly into the line with a hole to pop a coat hanger through.

A shoulder strap?! That's genius!!

One of my neighbours has a long washing line that they crank up so high Grin it is lovely to see their laundry blowing ,
I have a mahoosive rotary drier with a cranking handle that raises it , cannot get another one so good so I;m hanging onto it .

If I leave the sheets out after dark I'm always reliving that scene in IT when Pennywise is hiding behind the white sheets......(safe to say I don't think they'll be going back on the bed )

mizu · 06/04/2024 07:45

Got a load of bedding dry in that wind yesterday. Washing machine on this morning - usually never up this early on a Saturday but DD got a netball match - and will peg out before we go. Love waking up to sun ☀️

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 06/04/2024 09:16

I'm waking up to Storm Kathleen! She is a fierce one. Very high winds. No rain yet today although it rained a lot yesterday evening.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 06/04/2024 10:35

I'm also waiting for the washing machine to finish so Kathleen can dry my sheets Grin

I'm annoyed that rain was forecast here yesterday, so I dithered all day. Rain didn't come till teatime, so I could have had loads out and dried.

I'm going for it today. 22 mins till the first load of bedding will be ready to hang out. Let Kathleen do her stuff.
