Do you like your job? You don't have to say what it is/wage

I'm just curious, as most of my friends like their jobs, for the most part, obviously there are easier and tougher days.
I have one friend who hates her current job, and seems to have not got on with any she has had in the past either.
Another one has handed in her notice at what appears to be an amazing work place, clearly there must be something else happening.

It makes me wonder how often people stay at jobs they can't stand, and if there are just as many people who do like their jobs who maybe just don't say so?

I do like my job, it's only four days a week, and I get to work in an industry I'm genuinely interested in.

No not really. I've been doing my type of work for about 20 years and it's changed a lot in that time. I feel like I've come to the end of the road with it but I need to work so I'll probably stick with it for the time being.

Firsttimebabymama · 21/02/2024 16:01

I really like my current job. Hated my old one and stayed much much longer than I should have.

Poyl · 21/02/2024 16:02

I like the work I do now, I do freelance partly because of previous experience of awful workplaces and not wanting to be tied into one workplace.
The job I worked a couple of years ago looked good to anyone looking in, and was what I did my degree in, but it was absolutely awful, miserable, dealt with workplace bullying and was just a horrible experience, I stuck it out for years and it destroyed my mental health, a horrible work environment is just soul destroying.

I love my job. I really wanted to work in the field, it's interesting and I'm always learning. I love the helpful, funny, kind and professional people I work with. I manage my own workload and I can for the most part choose what I do day to day. The salary is low compared to a lot of other jobs but I've been there 20 years and just making better money would not be worth it without all the good parts.

DSD9472 · 21/02/2024 16:06

I enjoy my current job. I did years of nights and weekends and don't feel guilty with now WFH. My boss is lovely, its flexible and the wage is reasonable.

curiouslypacific · 21/02/2024 16:15

Totally depends on the day. Some days are fantastic, others I feel life is far too short for some of the nonsense I put up with.

As much a function of my character as the job though.

Neither phase lasts too long, so on average I'd say I like it. I also appreciate that I'm very lucky to have a 'good' job and it's easy to take it for granted.

I could have typed the same thing!

Do you work for the NHS by any chance? 🤣

Midnightrunners · 21/02/2024 16:19

It's what I always wanted to do and I had to go to university to train for it but I've been doing it for 25 years and I feel I've done my time and I'd love to do something totally different. The problem is I don't know what.

SirenSays · 21/02/2024 16:22

Yes but it is the only job I've ever had that I've actually liked.

Gotsomedebt · 21/02/2024 16:23

3 days into a new job... currently love it!

Keepthecaseinthelibrary · 21/02/2024 16:27

Yes..I love my job!! Varied and just challenging enough.

Mementomorissons · 21/02/2024 16:27

Yeah I really like mine. As long as there's a combo of talking to lots of different colleagues and working on projects that in some way improves people's lives - I'm happy.

rustlerwaiter · 21/02/2024 16:29

I enjoy my job, if I could go back and tell 10 year old me what I do now he'd be thrilled.

I always feel pretty lucky when I think about it. My dad had heavy, manual jobs, my mam skipped from one job to another. When I was younger my step dad had a succession of factory jobs and he hated them.

To be able to make a living from something I enjoy doing is a world away from all of that. If only it paid more!

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/02/2024 16:31

Yes. It can feel somewhat nebulous at times but the technical aspects of the industry are fascinating if you like that kind of thing (and I do like that kind of thing) and my role itself is incredibly privileged: it gives me enormous exposure to the most senior people and their strategic decision-making, I develop a lot of high level relationships, and I have the opportunity to make my mark right in the very fabric of the company’s governance and compliance. Plus I love that I know where all the company’s skeletons are buried!

It’s also a very good company to work for, with a lot of emphasis on employee wellbeing and very transparent about it’s business operations - and paid very well, which helps.

Janelle7 · 21/02/2024 16:32

Yes, same line of work my whole career in corporate workplaces

JamSandle · 21/02/2024 16:32

I love my job but workload can get high.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 21/02/2024 16:33

Yes! Been at the company since 2019

Unmute · 21/02/2024 16:34

Nope. I don't hate it. It's fine, I have a nice manager, but the job is boring and pointless. Also I'm the only person in the wider team who's in my regional office, so it's quite lonely.

I've never had a job I like. I've come to the conclusion that the only way to make life bearable is to move every 18-24 months so you regularly have the feeling of optimism a new job brings.

UnimaginableWindBird · 21/02/2024 16:34

I really like my job. It's interesting, I like my colleagues, I feel that my work is a small contribution to something worthwhile.

Nightblindness · 21/02/2024 16:34

No, I hate mine. I am handing in my notice in a fortnight and I can't wait to never have to work again. I am, for want of a better word, retiring.

UnderTheMidnightMoon · 21/02/2024 16:37

I love my job actually. I have my own little office for the most part (people come in a lot though) and it's an active job so I am up and about all the time - I don't just sit at my desk. The commute and hours are perfect. Yes, I'm v happy 😊

It is a newish role though tbf. I've done the same role with less nice hours, less manageable workload and worse commute and didn't love it then.

aitchteeaitch · 21/02/2024 16:40

I like my job. In fact, I can see myself staying there till I retire.

Peanut91 · 21/02/2024 16:42

Yes I do enjoy it and find it interesting. I got promoted into the role last April and still feel like I have imposter syndrome at times but definitely gaining confidence in the role and can see myself sticking it out for the foreseeable

Mytholmroyd · 21/02/2024 16:46

I love my job - I feel really privileged to have had such a career (considering I had to leave school at 16) and I am wondering whether I can give it up when I get to pensionable age - will probably continue unsalaried 😂
