Do you like your job? You don't have to say what it is/wage

DaftyLass · 21/02/2024 15:52

I'm just curious, as most of my friends like their jobs, for the most part, obviously there are easier and tougher days.
I have one friend who hates her current job, and seems to have not got on with any she has had in the past either.
Another one has handed in her notice at what appears to be an amazing work place, clearly there must be something else happening.

It makes me wonder how often people stay at jobs they can't stand, and if there are just as many people who do like their jobs who maybe just don't say so?

I’m just doing it for the money at this point. I get paid hourly and was supposed to have near full time hours. I get assigned on a project ostensibly full time, then it falls apart and reassigned. It’s frustrating and depressing. Two years I’ve been working there and not a FT week yet! I’m on 3 different projects with minimal hours. As I’m trying to save for college, it’s not meeting our needs financially (In USA so need about $35k/yr for 4 yrs x3) I’m looking for something else but can’t seem to find anything non management and of course i want to keep my WFH.

LikeWhyThough · 21/02/2024 18:46

I used to.

The industry has changed so much over the years. More and more demands have been placed on us for for no extra pay or recognition. Stress central. For minimum wage.

I need a new job.

TodayForTomorrow · 21/02/2024 18:48

Yes, I do. I like the hours and the impact of it. The pay is good for my local area but not great in the scheme of things, so recruitment is an issue. I like the people and the work is very enjoyable, though often frustratingly difficult.

I also hate the physical building I work in, but it's not enough to make me leave.

fightingthedogforadonut · 21/02/2024 18:51

I like my current job. Nice management, nice colleagues, interesting work, good work/life balance. The sector I'm in doesn't pay as well as others, so the compromise is I could probably get 5K more if I went elsewhere. But very happy for now.

coxesorangepippin · 21/02/2024 18:51

I get paid well for working in a very boring industry

It's WFH, I find the job easy and works around 20 hours a week

HenryCavillsPerfectTeeth · 21/02/2024 18:52

I adore my job and my manager is absolutely fantastic Smile

GameChangingNameChange · 21/02/2024 18:53

Not any more. Been in my job for over 20 years, but the workplace is toxic and the work has changed since covid, and I have fallen out of love with it. Thinking seriously about moving on but it's a very niche role, so I might need to do something quite different.

I'm not enjoying my current job but I like the company I work for. It's a large retail bank and lots of opportunities to move around so I am looking for something else. I have no intention of leaving the company until I retirement but happy to move about within it.

MinnieMountain · 21/02/2024 18:53

No. I’m bored by it now. We got sold last year and the new owners have turned it into a very different company.

Superawkward · 21/02/2024 18:54

I have a family member who has hated every job they've ever had. But they aren't a very sociable person and have always worked with the general public. So it's clearly a poor fit.

I like my job on the whole. Don't like my boss much. It could pay better but it will do.

Dee03 · 21/02/2024 18:56

yes i love my job most of the time.

does it physically wear me out most days..yes

is the pay crap..yes

Snowpaw · 21/02/2024 19:07

I like my job. A large part of it involves reading details about other peoples lives which I find very interesting and therefore every day is different. Its all written work / reading work which suits me and my quiet nature. I get to use my brain but its not too demanding or stressful. It pays for the things I need. My boss is very funny.

IDontHateRainbows · 21/02/2024 19:12

I used to like it, but feel I've lost my way recently. I'm not sure it's for me any more, but I can't afford to retrain. I've taken something of a sideways move on an interim basis in the vague hope I can fall back in love with my profession.

EmilyEmmabob · 21/02/2024 19:13

I used to love my job, it's changed so much and now I really dislike it. My day to day work is the side I like, the admin and the crap I have to deal with is the part I don't like. I'm so sad it's turned out like this but I'm leaving this profession after 20 years. The workload is unmanageable.

I'm going to a completely unrelated field and I'm really looking forward to it.

MinnieMountain · 21/02/2024 19:18

What do you do @Snowpaw ?

Linlithgow · 21/02/2024 19:20

Love the field but my new role means I am stretched. I barely have a lunch break and struggle to even leave my office for a 5 minute break. wFH

MidnightMeltdown · 21/02/2024 19:23

I think most people have to choose between having a fun job and earning a good salary

Higher earners are paid the extra to be bored and stressed!

If you've got a well paid and fun job then you've hit the jackpot

AffIt · 21/02/2024 19:33

A good 90% of the time, I'd say yes.

I mostly love the job I do - mostly problem-solving / strategy stuff in a very interesting industry - but the occasional operational or management things I have to do frustrate me. I'm an analyst by temperament and not very good at or interested in the political or peopley stuff.

I have wonderful, interesting and intelligent colleagues, though, so that cancels out most of the bad or boring stuff.

Overall four stars, would recommend.

AffIt · 21/02/2024 19:34

Also very well-paid, which does help ease the pain of the occasional crap.

GameChangingNameChange · 21/02/2024 19:45

MinnieMountain · 21/02/2024 19:18

What do you do @Snowpaw ?

I was going to ask the same. Sounds like the kind of job I would love!

PonyPatter44 · 21/02/2024 19:47

I love my job. Its challenging, difficult and occasionally upsetting, but its totally fascinating and i enjoy going into work every day. I love my colleagues (most of them - there are a couple who can get in the bin!), the building is falling to bits around our ears but its the same for everyone, and there is a good attitude to the place.

Disneydatknee88 · 21/02/2024 20:34

Yes I do. My job is fully remote and I'm pretty much just left to it. They are fine with me taking time out for school runs, drs appointments and school events without having to make the time up. I just have to let the team know when I'm unavailable. The company I work for are lovely. We have lots of company events which are always well organised and no expense spared. I get on well with my team (who are also mostly remote but we have a zoom meeting once a week to discuss stats etc). I feel like I'm paid fairly for what I do. It's just a chill job. I love it!

GettingPast · 21/02/2024 21:00

Love it and been doing it for 20 years

Papyrophile · 21/02/2024 21:03

I loved every day at work, both employed and self-employed/freelance. I still miss the excitement of not knowing how the day would turn out, and I am retired.

AuntMarch · 21/02/2024 21:04

I do, they money is rubbish but it's worth it for my mental health after previously staying too long in positions that made me dread morning coming!
