Do you like your job? You don't have to say what it is/wage

I'm just curious, as most of my friends like their jobs, for the most part, obviously there are easier and tougher days.
I have one friend who hates her current job, and seems to have not got on with any she has had in the past either.
Another one has handed in her notice at what appears to be an amazing work place, clearly there must be something else happening.

It makes me wonder how often people stay at jobs they can't stand, and if there are just as many people who do like their jobs who maybe just don't say so?

Yes I love my job, a good mix of strategy and practice, lots of time for reading and research and a good, supportive, very competent team. I’m also well paid for a 4 day post, which helps but isn’t the be all and end all.

WhereIsMyLight · 21/02/2024 16:51

I really like my job. I have a great manager and great flexibility but I actually really like the work I’m doing. If I won big on the lottery, I would probably still do the job but I would drop my hours a bit. The only thing I would change is how close I am to the office for my office days but I took the job knowing the distance so can’t complain too much. There are other similar jobs paying a bit more but the flexibility and manager make up for that. It’s the first job I’ve loved and would continue working in if I won the lottery! Most of my jobs before have been mostly fine but with periods (some quite big periods) where I’ve been unhappy. During the bad periods I was quite unhappy but during the OK times it was fine but I’d still have quit the next day if I won big on the lottery.

Jeannne92 · 21/02/2024 16:58

I like most of the work I do. I like all of my patients. I loathe almost all of my colleagues on a professional and personal basis; I had cancer and cancer treatment and most of them were appalling, I was also bullied by 2 of them (dealt with well by HR but not so well that I now want to be friends with them.) I hate the way my workplace is organised/disorganised. I was offered another job which I am going to turn down but have been now offered another which I am negotiating and I have also applied for a third. When I leave I am going to bring a case of constructive dismissal on my current employer (have seen a lawyer already).

Korkie · 21/02/2024 17:21

I love my job.
I work alone and apart from the exception of the occasional lorry driver coming in to my office to query something, or get something signed, I sit on my bum all day browsing the internet and watching catch up TV, netflix etc and get paid for doing it.
What's not to love.

SackOfShitandRegrets · 21/02/2024 17:29

Not as much as did (took long time to feel
Comfortable) but like the wfh with just one office a day a month

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 21/02/2024 17:32

Yes. Because i pick my hours, can do them whenever i want as long as what needs doing is done. Last month i did 10 hours max ! Same salary
I get to do all school runs all school activities, after school activities, run the home, grocery shop etc without having to juggle things like i previously did.
I don't need to worry if i have a had bad night with dcs and want a sleep in the day or go out to lunch with friends.

However i know im lucky. My old job i was rushing to get there, paying loads in wrap around care, struggling to find time to even go to the shops, having to practically beg for time off to see a play at school or parents evening.

I really enjoy the most important parts of my job. It can be incredibly rewarding and fun. My workplace is lovely, as are almost all the people I work with. But the workload is just ludicrous. At any given time I have far more to do than I can ever actually do, and that makes me do less well at the important bits of my job that I enjoy most. I'm 52 and I doubt I will leave my current workplace until I retire (unless we move for some reason).

Hartley99 · 21/02/2024 18:11

No. My problem is I'm an introvert, and so having to deal with people all day is grinding, miserable and exhausting.

Waitingfordoggo · 21/02/2024 18:12

I absolutely love it. I only work 15-20 hours a week though, which helps. It’s not the sort of job you could do FT.

uhtredsonofuhtred1 · 21/02/2024 18:15

I absolutely love my job. Every day is different, I can go wherever I want, it's flexible and the company is fantastic. I feel so lucky to have a job that I genuinely love and get to make such a difference in peoples lives.

Yuja · 21/02/2024 18:16

I do. The job itself is okay but I have amazing colleagues and lots of flexibility. Day to day I'm happy which is a big thumbs up as far as I'm concerned

Bunnyhair · 21/02/2024 18:18

I love my job. Working with people. Minimal admin. Feels a deeply meaningful use of my time on earth. The pay is terrible though and I’ll be working until I drop dead.

daffodilandtulip · 21/02/2024 18:19

I stayed in a job I hated for far too long. It made me cry everyday and gave me sleepless nights. Everyone kept saying "but think of the pension" "but don't waste your degree" "but you've done it for 29 years". Then one day I was like, fuck this, life's too short.

I absolutely adore my current job. I laugh and smile every day.

MrsDilligaf · 21/02/2024 18:20

I love it, it's certainly interesting, I work with great people, get paid a good salary, manage my own workload so very flexible in terms of what hours I work and 99% of the time I WFH. There are lots of other benefits, good pension, good holidays, etc.

Definitely count myself lucky.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 21/02/2024 18:21

Hate my job more than not.

I’ve an exit plan but really need to stay another 15 months which seems impossible at the moment.

It’s a tough job with a lot of responsibilities and I just feel I never have the resources or staff I need. I could leave but I care for the staff and patients and don’t want to abandon them.

Clinical NHS!

MidnightMeltdown · 21/02/2024 18:25

Not especially but it's well paid and flexible so will stick with it until a decent chunk of the mortgage has been cleared

Civilservant · 21/02/2024 18:26

No: lots and lots of v good things about my job and employer, such as nice people, interesting work, not long hours.

But I have never felt it was right for me,l. feel crap at some important aspects of all the jobs have done, v rarely receive positive feedback (probably justified given my weakness s at the job!) and some problems / frustrations we can’t change also get me down.

Haven’t moved primarily due to prioritising parenting and DH’s job. Bumble along.

Sparkymoo · 21/02/2024 18:27

I love my job. I loved other jobs too but this one has the benefits of those but with a good salary and less stress. Feels like a lottery win as felt trapped in last job and really rubbish about myself.

ScarlettSunset · 21/02/2024 18:27

No, not really.
The job I have now is better than my last one, which was in turn better than the one I had before that. But I still don't like it very much.
Really, I think I am just tired and worn out and don't want to work at all.

noexcusesforlatenessalan · 21/02/2024 18:32

I enjoy my actual job and get satisfaction from helping others. The paperwork and general red tape that comes with it...not so much. I don't blame those who leave the profession due to frustration!

Echobelly · 21/02/2024 18:37

My current job I like the business, but TBH the job hasn't been that interesting so I'm not feeling too awful I'm being made redundant next week after 18 months there! The fact is doing the role has given me a grounding in something that opens up so many more jobs, as I am finding. And I might yet move to an internal role as I had an initial conversation about it today and they're going to try to get me a formal interview early next week.

I was more in straightforward editing and 11 years ago when I was last made redundant, and I was struggling to find more than one role a week I could apply for, it took me 6 months to get hired - last Friday alone I identified 5 jobs that I could realistically go for.

MeridaofClanDunBroch · 21/02/2024 18:40

No, I hate it. I deal with the public all day and for every pleasant person I deal with there are 2 who are rude and offensive.

I loved my old job, just me in my lab analysing new sources of germ warfare.

Alldoke · 21/02/2024 18:41

Love my current job! I’ve spent my whole life doing jobs I hate, so it’s amazing to finally enjoy my job!

GeneCity · 21/02/2024 18:42

Firsttimebabymama · 21/02/2024 16:01

I really like my current job. Hated my old one and stayed much much longer than I should have.

Did I write this 😄

It's what I always wanted to do and I had to go to university to train for it but I've been doing it for 25 years and I feel I've done my time and I'd love to do something totally different. The problem is I don't know what.

Maybe you could try carpentry? No idea why I had to say that actually. Maybe I want to retrain as a carpenter! Hope you find whatever it is
