Do you like your job? You don't have to say what it is/wage

I'm just curious, as most of my friends like their jobs, for the most part, obviously there are easier and tougher days.
I have one friend who hates her current job, and seems to have not got on with any she has had in the past either.
Another one has handed in her notice at what appears to be an amazing work place, clearly there must be something else happening.

It makes me wonder how often people stay at jobs they can't stand, and if there are just as many people who do like their jobs who maybe just don't say so?

A very brief scan of previous posts suggests that anyone analytical actually likes work. Frankly, I wouldn't want to deal with the public F2F but their anonymized data is fascinating.

TinyKittenPaw · 21/02/2024 21:14

my job makes me so sad and dispirited. An email from my manager made me cry today.

My jobs alright, I wouldn’t say I love it but I don’t hate it either.

greeneggsandham3 · 21/02/2024 21:15

I work a sad job in retail with shitty management who hate their staff. Says it all really.

That’s awful! Sorry to hear that. What would you want to do instead?

Gymmum82 · 21/02/2024 21:50

Love mine. Wouldn’t want to do anything else

alwaysmovingforwards · 21/02/2024 21:55

Very much so.

Teenangels · 21/02/2024 21:58

I like/love my job, it can be stressful and harrowing at times, sometimes with physical violence thrown in.

When I make a difference it’s the most rewarding thing in the world.

4 DWW, amazing senior team, that are thoughtful and accommodating

Branleuse · 21/02/2024 22:08

Love it (mostly)

Dextybooboo · 21/02/2024 22:11

Loved my job the first year but office conflict and no opportunities are making me feel like it's not all that. However the hours and location are perfect so I'll probably stay put.

Throwawayme · 21/02/2024 22:13

Yeah I really do but it's the first ever job I liked!

DDSS · 21/02/2024 22:13

Hate it, teaching.

I feel such jealously for people who love their job but will hopefully be one of these people soon

Sierra259 · 21/02/2024 22:15

Yes, I generally really enjoy my job. It's varied, just challenging enough, there's always more to learn and improve and is very rewarding. I also work with a lovely team which I think makes all the difference.

IKnowYouBetterThanThat · 21/02/2024 22:26

It's ok. I've had worse.

I retrained after my divorce as I knew I'll be working till state retirement age to support myself and wanted something I wouldn't hate doing!

I'd really rather not work at all but it's the dragging my ass out of bed at an ungodly hour and the sheer time it takes up (when I could be pottering about) that annoy me rather than anything in particularly about the job itself.

So, yeah, if I've got to work, then I may as well do this but if I win the lottery tomorrow they won't see me for dust!

cakewitch · 21/02/2024 22:34

For various reasons I can't do what Im Best qualified and experienced in doing, because of a lack of opportunities in my local area, and no money to set up my own business, so I'm killing time, miserably doing something I never expected to be doing,
for god knows how long I've got to do it for. It's soul destroying, but I've got a lovely life outside work, so I can put up with it really.

FluffyDiplodocus · 21/02/2024 23:29

There are some aspects I enjoy, but I largely tolerate work nowadays!

WallaceinAnderland · 21/02/2024 23:35

I've loved every job I've every had. They've been so interesting and I've learned a lot. I've also made lifelong friends. However, I have moved on whenever I've felt that the job has nothing left to give me.

I've moved on to more interesting work and I think this is what has given me job satisfaction over the years. Businesses are crying out for good staff so I've always found it easy to move into a new role, meet new friends and learn about a new subject. I've worked in so many different areas and it's really eye opening.

frenchfancy81 · 21/02/2024 23:49

Ultimately, yes.
Every bit of it? Definitely not!

Snowpaw · 22/02/2024 15:04

MinnieMountain · 21/02/2024 19:18

What do you do @Snowpaw ?

@GameChangingNameChange

I assist a consultant psychiatrist with the court reports he writes. I read and summarise his patient's medical records for him. I cross reference what his patients have told him with what is in their medical records; basically checking for any inconsistencies with what they have told him. And then I proof read the reports he writes before it goes off to the Judge. I find it fascinating.

MostlyHappyMummy · 22/02/2024 15:07

Mostly yes. Haven't been able to say that in all
previous posts. However, if I won the lottery I would resign without a moments hesitation.

Watchthedoormat · 22/02/2024 15:09

I don't like my job.
Wage is not great but some days it feels like I'm paid for just turning up as some days don't involve much intervention.

That sounds amazing! What’s your job title? Want to see if there is a vacancy locally!

Personal Assistant / Secretary I guess. The role has evolved over the years. I started off just being his typist 15 years ago but have had training along the way and more responsibilities added. Have a look for secretarial work in the Medico-legal industry - there are thousands of Consultants out there doing private court work and it generates a lot of secretarial work, much of which can be done remotely. If you can prove yourself to have good spelling / grammar and are able to turn work around quickly and accurately you will likely do well.
