It's not new, it's seven hours away from home, it'd be a second home boohiss until we retire, it needs a lot of work. It's been on the market for a year and has no kitchen. It's so remote we'd need a starlink to be able to work or call an ambulance.
I have the visual equivalent of a tin ear when it comes to decorating and I'm so excited I could cry (I did cry when we visited)

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross I’m desperately hoping it’s a mistake- second home premium and regrading from when it was extended 30 years ago.
Are you also south London based? Where are you thinking of?

I did read an article about the massive increase in council tax on second homes in Wales 😬 In one region, it’s going up by 300%! It says that for Scotland, it’s 200%.

I’m based in the Midlands and am not considering a second home but sometimes flirt with the idea of retiring to the coast…

From the Midlands you’re much better placed to get places!

This thread just showed up in "active", and I took a peek.

There Torygraph has been banging on about 2nd home premiums for a while, particularly in Tenby where there are apparently a lot of 2nd homes up for sale.

Today they reported that putting a house up for sale means that you are exempt from council tax for 12 months...which can be extended.

I'm not sure whether this is just a Welsh dispensation or UK wide.

Not there this weekend 😥
Came home on the first flight from Edinburgh for work on Tuesday, brutal!
I’ve removed the other scruffy alcove in the sitting room and used two kitchen cabinets instead. They need painting in and securing but look great. The rug is enormous and was £200 from local auction house. Having paid £900! to have the granite taken away for cutting, I’m now anxiously awaiting its return and fitting 😬
Sheering time up there now- this is what their fleece does if not removed; on a walk I found a sheep who’d managed to hobble himself caught up in it 🐑

What colour have you painted your walls?

reservoirdawg · 15/09/2024 11:42

A warm greige!

Wow! It's really pretty. What does it feel like, is the surface papery or plasticy? I'm asking because it says washable. Just trying to get a sense of how much I like it, I really like the dark green version.
You are doing an AMAZING job on your lovely house!

reservoirdawg · 17/09/2024 13:30

Thank you🥰
I chose that finish because it’s easier to put up, it smooth to the touch, definitely not shiny. I’ve used a dark version elsewhere and it just looks like normal wallpaper.

Thank you that's helpful. We are moving (fingers crossed anyway!) and I'm looking at all things decorative and new at the mo, that's defo one for the file. Amazing price too.

Here and looking at paint rollers with trepidation. Going for a swim instead!

Euff! The woodwork is a big job and I’ve stalled. I’ve got some non orange, slightly darker oil/ stain but I need to sand down before potentially very messy application so I’m pausing. But I painted and corniced a room as the carpet was going down. Pics of painting and cornicing and orange pine for advice.

More pictures. I’ve bought some window lead for the massive upvc windows throughout. I’m trying it out on some small windows first- the intention is to cover the white internal bars. It’d be a big expensive job to do all the windows so I’m starting small.

Window half way through- the upvc needs another coat but I’m happy with the effect.
Still not sure whether to do the others- it’ll cost about £100 in materials to do this one and there are 5 this size.

Here’s a window with dark glazing bars hiding the internal white ones. Just wondering whether to paint the upvc dark or colour drench them the same as the the wood frame. Or dark oil the wood frame dark grey, almost the same colour as the glazing bars.

Thank you, I'm really uncertain about colour choices and edges! I understand why greige is so popular, it blends 😂

I'm putting a similar colour in my house for the same reason! I don't know where I want to go decor wise and this seems an easy way to start (don't like bold/ dark colours or pure white!)

Edited

I do most walls off-white!

I love your view out that window so much.

reservoirdawg · 18/10/2024 07:16

Lovely to see this thread active as I wake up on the overnight coach. Brutal.
I need to crack on with hall. The carpets will be going down and I’m not touching a paintbrush once they’re in! I’ve been looking at pictures of dark woodwork. Same old greige, Bright carpet! 😎
